The purpose of the auto-censoring function is not to protect the person who is breaching point 2 of the Code of Conduct from the consequences of their own actions. Its purpose is to spare other users from having to read foul language before the moderators notice the breach and deal with the situation.
The Code of Conduct explains: Correct censoring means replacing all letters in the vulgar words with asterisks by holding the SHIFT key and pressing the number 8 key (US keyboards). For example: when **** hit the fan. Any other method of censoring vulgar words partially or entirely will be considered incorrect censoring and may be penalized.
This means that the users whose rude language was auto-censored (instead of them using the correct asterisk censoring procedure) will be penalized by the moderators unless the moderators choose to be more lenient.
Moderators are like highways cops - their job is to give everyone who speeds a speeding ticket. They can't catch everyone every single time. They can choose to give a warning instead of a ticket sometimes. However, repeat offenders are unlikely to get a warning and will generally be watched more closely than everybody else.
The auto-censoring is a somewhat humorous system aimed to strike a balance between protecting bystanders from an eyesore and not interfering with normal posting (hence partials and double meaning words like 'ass', 'cock', 'dick', 'prick', etc are not auto-censored). Auto-censoring is not a guide for what is permissible or not under the CoC and does not protect people who violate the CoC from penalities.
The intention of this post is to provide an answer to the asked question and not to restart the provocation and upheval, hence I am closing this thread.
