..Have you guys seen their schedule for the rest of the year? It's even easier than my Chargers' schedule. The only tough-looking game Chicago has left is New England....
This is because of your weird american schedule system in my eyes. If every team would play against every other team at least ONCE, such discussion would never come up. A football team plays 17 games (I think) in the regular season, while basketball and hockey teams play about 82, and baseball teams even 156. How strange is that?
There are 34 Teams in the NFL. Why is it impossible to play 33 games in regular season for each team?

I do admit that CHicago does have an easy road.
The N.Y teams may give them a little challenge compared to the other teams & N.E of course.
I think the team that can beat them out of getting a perfect rECORD & better then N.E at the moment is Minnasota.

This is because Football is too high-impact. If the season were 33 games long, we might see 50% injury rates. Most Football injuries are season-ending, some are career-ending. It's easy to play 50-100 games per season when you never deal with 325 lbs. of Defensive Lineman hitting you at 35mph, then landing on top of you.

I wish the seasons were longer too. 16 games leaves me wanting more. But it would demolish the rosters, and end too many careers. It's just a different kettle of fish is all.

I suppose the same could be asked about the world cup and Futbol. Why play a round robin of 4 teams to enter into a bracket? Why not just play every team once, then enter into a playoff? Afterall it is for the ultimate World Championship.

1 reason I would say this could never happen in the NFL or College or High School, is because the sport is very physical on each and every play.  It is not uncommon to have sprains, broken bones, torn ligaments, concussions, etc... after a football game.  This does not even take into account all of the nagging everyday bumps and bruises that would wear a person down over the course of a season.

Your example is not quite accurat Lee.
You think the United States didn't had any qualifying games before they were allowed to participate in the WC?
Only 32 teams will qualify for the "play-offs" of the WC (while only 8 or 10 teams of the NF; do qualify for the playoffs!).
But the qualifying games on ALL continents start even 2 years before the WC. In Europe, every team has between 14 and 18 games before they are qualified (We have 8 groups of 8 teams mostly, every team of every group plays every team of the same group TWICE. Once at home, one time on the road. The first placed team is directly qualified, all second placed teams (8) will have a second chance to qualify for the WC. They will meet one of the 8 teams in a 2 games playoff round aswell (at home and on the road), which will show who the winner is. So 4 teams of these 8 will join the WC. Asia and Africa have similar tourneys, but lesser games, coz they have lesser nations.

Only for the case u didn't knew how the States did manage to qualify to the WC, here is what they had to do:

CONCACAF
1st round --> US seated automatically in round 2
2nd round --> US vs Grenada (3:0 and 3:2) (home, road)
3rd round (group style, 3 groups of 4 teams)
...USA played 6 games, 2 vs each team of their group (Panama, Jamaika, El Salvador). First 2 placed teams of each group go to next round. USA finished 1st, Panama 2nd.
4th round (group style, 1 group of 6 teams)
.... ALL 1st and 2nd placed teams of the 3rd round played in one last group now. (USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Trinidad&Tobago, Guatemala, Panama). USA played vs each other team twice (home and road). The first 3 teams of that group qualified directly for the WC in germany, while the 4th placed team had a last "play-off" round vs the 4th of the Asian group. USA finished that 4th round as first placed team, 2nd Mexico, 3rd Costa Rica.
So the USA had to play 18 games to qualify for the WC.
And also keep in mind, ALL players of each team play in their normal home club aswell. 30-40 games a season. What do the football players do when the season is over? From february till september?

And 2 more words refering to injuriues.
I always thought hockey is a damn tough sport, and rarely any player in the NHL still has all teeth or any non broken bone till the end of his career. But still they play more than 100 games a season.
And about this "325 lbs with 35 mph" rumour. The world record holder on 100m had a speed of 34 km/h when he crossed the line. Don't tell me a full back of a football team is faster than the world record holder..

The average speed of a hundred meter race, ran on 10 sec., is 36 km/h. Since they are slower in the beginning of the race im pretty sure that Astafa Powell must have run faster than 34 km/h when he crossed the line. Probably close to 40 km/h.

But ofcourse you are right that the big guys in the nfl dosent run at 35 mph.

Sorry, I wasn't being literal. I was just making a figurative analogy. The impacts (and therefore, the injuries which result) are worse in Football than even in Hockey. It may look bad in Hockey, but they are on skates after all.

Besides my (personal) disfavor of the schedule system of the NFL, I still like the sport itself very much. Hope u didn't get a wrong picture though.
And I hope someone will post the match schedule of this weekend soon, so I can post my picks

Hahaha, poor Lions.

I don't really follow football, but I just want to say that I've met Herman Moore from the Lions.    (I know he's retired now.)  A few years ago, he opened a coffee shop behind my house and I saw him in it once.  He smiled at me and said hi.  And completely ignored my (ex)boyfriend.

Week 6 Games

Bye Week

Cleveland Browns, Green bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots

Sunday's Games

Buffalo Bills at Detroit Kittens – No Maretti, don’t expect me to take Detroit
Carolina Panthers at Baltimore Ravens – Not a copy
Cincinnati Bengals at Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Cinci vs. Tampa, hmmm, playoff vs possible 0-16… tough one.
Houston Texans at Dallas Cowboys – Boys vs the Men.
N.Y Giants at Atlanta Falcons  - Evenly matched. Atlanta because they are at home.
Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints – Without the distraction (T.O.), Phili is more focused and will be in the playoffs. Also, Not a copy
Seattle Seahawks at St. Louis Rams – Even without Alexander, Seattle has enough to beat the lowly Rams… Arizona almost did.
Tennessee Titans at Washington Redskins – I like Washington in a battle. Tenn will be a very good team by the end of the season… Vince Young is kicking @ss as a rookie!
Kansas City Chiefs at Pittsburgh Steelers – No Trent Green = No KC win…especially vs. the defending Super Bowl Champs.
Miami Dolphins at N.Y Jets – Joey Harrington is the starting QB for Miami? Joey friggin Harrington?? Are you serious? Never thought any team would want Detroit’s leftovers.
San Diego Chargers at San Francisco 49ers – Playoff team vs. little league. San Fran is good enough to beat Oakland… and that’s about it.
Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos – Oakland is the Worst team in the NFL… too bad the Lions er’ the Kittens don’t play them this year.

Monday Night Game

Chicago Bears at Arizona Cardinals – The Bears may not lose a game this year. I see them as this years Super Bowl Champs.
