Astral town
Mystery from Heroes Community
A new mythical, magic, *strange* town Posted 3-16-2001 20:23
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought about a strange and cool town called Astral gate or Portal:
Gloom->Grim.
Hidden->Spectre->Poltergeist.
Random->Chaos.
Psychic elemental->Magic elemental.
Insane muse->Dark muse->Berserker.
Time elemental->Statis elemental.
Lucid->Dream->Nightmare.

This has nothing to do with me but i like the idea of this town(with some minor tweaks of course) so enjoy:
John DiFool-
"This town would be based on two hero types: the
>Illusionist (magic) and the Thief (might). These
>two hero classes would naturally go together as
>they involve deception and misdirection.
>
>Creatures would be as follows (with just some
>upgrades given):
>
>1. Rogues-basically the H2/H3 variety. Can
>be upgraded to Assassins (able to hide behind
>obstacles on the field and get 2x damage when
>attacking a unit-no retaliation-for the first time).
>2. Nixies-able to reduce morale (weaken
>battle readiness) of nearby enemy units.
>Otherwise a fairly fast flyer.
>3. Lurkers: look like a normal terrain tile
>(a la a chameleon), but able to attack and
>hold in place (cf. Dendroids) any unit which
>walks or lands on or near them (1 hex away).
>Target gets no retaliation in this case-Lurker
>can still attack normally. A slow walker.
>4. Sirens: Can Hypnotize nearby enemy
>units (based on number of Sirens in the
>stack vs. hitpoints of enemy stack). A
>medium speed walker (flyer on upgrade?).
>5. Conjurors: the Palace's range attacker,
>also able to cast a random deleterious spell on
>one enemy unit.
>6. Displacer Beasts: Can automatically cast
>a version of Clone on themselves-tho there
>isn't a second blue copy created-instead the
>image created looks (to the enemy) like the
>Displacer Beast but when attacked the image
>disappears and the Beast itself becomes
>visible. The image is always one hex from
>the actual unit. Combat starts with image
>already created but when dispelled can be
>recast by beast.
>7. Prismatic Dragon: comparable in basic
>strength to the Gold Dragon (tho defense is
>very high due to illusionary nature). Immune to
>all mind-affecting spells and (a la Thunderbird)
>call down a Prismatic Spray 20% of the time
>on attacked enemy unit.
>
>Additional Spells (current spells such as Clone
>and Blind would also go here. Upgrades not
>given in most cases but follow logically from
>basic effect):
>
>L1: Illusionary Terrain: creates a terrain obstacle
>on the map-subject to dispelling by spell or
>touch of a high-morale unit (lower morale units
>balk at trying to pass through said terrain).
>Upgraded allows use on adventure map, to
>block pathways.
>
>L2: Prismatic Spray: Basically Similar to
>Lightning Bolt-damage is increased or
>reduced depending on target unit's
>Morale however.
>
>L3: Fear: lowers both Luck & Morale.
>
>L3: Terror Beast: calls down a illusionary
>creature which looks like whatever the
>worst fears are of individuals in the enemy
>army. Lowers morale, luck and speed
>of enemy units by -2 as long as it remains on
>the battlefield (disappears the normal way-when
>dispelled or attacked).
>
>L4: Invisibility: usable on either the adventure or
>combat map. Dispelled by Area Dispel
>Magic or when invisible unit attacks. Upgraded,
>allows attack to not suffer retaliation.
>
>L4: Prismatic Shower: area effect spell like
>Meteor Shower-20x damage but 25/50/75%
>chance of Blinding enemy units within area of effect.
>
>L5: Illusionary Monster: Creates illusionary
>creatures to fight for the caster. Number of
>monsters equal to Power/5 and each has
>an attack of 30, damage of 30, and movement
>of 20. Disappears when attacked.
>
>L6: Time Stop: Time is stopped for 1 combat
>turn for the enemy, during which time enemy units
>can be attacked by caster-allied units without retaliation.
>Alternatively, can be an area effect spell a la
>Berzerk (radius equal to basic=1, advanced=2,
>expert=3). Also usable on adventure map on
>enemy heroes (remain stationary for 1 turn)."

Not sure Posted 3-20-2001 15:26

You have a nice town idea, but the "tweaking" you did is not good. I think you didnt get the main idea of the town, i ment for the units to be non-physical beings, astral beings, and you suggested units that decept people physically and in a simple way, but I suggested units which control the mind magically, I hope you understand my point.
Rage [guest] from Heroes Community
U misunderstand Posted 3-20-2001 19:10
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, i didn't mean for this particular example to 'become' ur town idea. I was merely posting someone else's idea on a different site...
Anyways, what i really meant was to get the creative juices flowing through the combination or 'tweaking' of both ideas (and any other ideas which come along).
I believe some of those units such as the shambler would fit with ur town idea (it's main defence is based upon magic). Also, the conflux town in AB is based upon such magical creations (elementals) but it also has physical creatures such as the faery and phoenix.
Thnx

Ok Posted 3-21-2001 05:25
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, i got your idea, we can do some tweaking, and the shambler is a great unit, but there is one thing that has to stay, all units must be non-physical, and must be pretty fast moving (most are flyers). The town is made out of astral beings, its like beings who live in an astral dimension, they manipulate the brain and the soul and must have specials like casting mind spells on the enemy.

i was trying to say this earlier...
i had the idea a while ago, you have two necromancer towns, one is all the body stuff, they are titled "corrupt dead" than you have the spiritual stuff, called the "purified dead" in these towns they both have a skill like necromancy, one raised skells like necro town, other raises ghosts like necro skill, the grail structure for the spirit town would make all the spell abilities % raised by the moral and the moral bonus negated, so instead of getting an extra attack (physical damage isn't their specialty) they get maby 10% by +1 moral they would have gotten,

ack, didn't finish.... let me please
so the creature structure would look like this:
corupt dead
skell / skell warrior
rotting corpse / stagnite corpse
lich (shooter)/ power lich (shooter)
noble / aristrocrat (vampires by better names)
black night / dread night
death seeker (shooter) / death bringer (shooter)
flesh dragon / plauged dragon
purified dead
fade / ghost
wight / wraith
manefestation / poltergeist
ilusion (shooter)/ hallucination (shooter)
haunt / spectre
essence (shooter) / element (shooter)
lucid / nightmare

Kuraizen's idea needs some changes
Kuraizen, your idea needs some changes. You can't just get rid of Bone and Ghost Dragons. Here is my revised idea.
Corrupted Dead
Skeleton->Skeleton Warrior
Walking Dead->Zombie->Corpse
Vampire->Vampire Lord->Dracula
Lich->Power Lich->Corrupted Cleric
Revenant->Wichtlin
Black Night->Dread Knight
Bone Dragon->Flesh Dragon
Purified Dead
Fade->Ghost
Wight->Wraith
Manefestation->Poltergeist
Banshee->Shadow
Haunt->Spectre
Lucid->Nightmare
Ghost Dragons->Spectral Dragons
Those are my ideas.

Take a look
Take a look at the very first post of this topic, notice something? As u see, i didn't mean it to be made only of dead (Spectre, Poltergeist), but also on astral beings that never have died they were like that all the time and also mind and psychological beings (Berserker, Time/Statis elemental, Psychic/Magic elemental, Gloom/Grim [I think they should look like bats, like in Diablo]), so try to understand the main idea and think of other units other than dead, think of shadows/banshees and more, whatever u can come up with.

You stand corrected again
Kuraizen first started talking about ways to split the Necropolis in two. I was simply revising his idea. I think your idea is still good, and maybe you could revise my Purified Dead idea to make your Astral Town idea better.

I have been thinking about this for some time and I came up with a name for the town Shadow Tower. It would look like one of those old meddival haunted town.

Shadow Tower works, as does Portal. Here are two more suggestions: Chrono Tower or Utopia. (They're not carefully considered, just names that popped into my mind)

Diablo calm down. Your heroes are just fine. They could use a little editing, but otherwise they are just fine.
As for the names Chrono tower would work too.

Town Name
I think that Portal is the best name. I think Chrono or Shadow Tower have names too similar to the already exsisting Tower.

Why Portal?
Not that I have something against your oppinion Diablo, I don't realy get the name Portal. I could uderstand Chrono, but why Portal. A portal is something like a monolith so what exactly does the name immply? I mean what is the meaning of this one name?

disagree
I agree that the name portal is a bad name because, portal relly isn't fit for a castle name, just think, you have
Tower, Rampart, Necropolis... and Portal
odd isnt it

Idea.
I've been thinking and decided that, well, if the Azure dragon will be added in the Ice Castle, and the Rust dragon will be added to the Egyptian castle, and the Crystal dragon will be in the Factory town (if there will be one), the Faerie dragon could be added to the Astral town, what do you think?

Fairie Dragon
The Farie Dragon in the Astral town could fit, but when you look at the Farie Dragon he looks peaceful and sort of nice. From what I uderstand the Astral or what-ever-town is evil. Unless it is neutral I understand. Unless 3DO changes how they look they don't realy fit into a evil town.

Azure and Faerie.
First, the Astral town is a Neutral town, and the look of the Faerie dragon should be changed.
Second, when we decided to put the Rust, Crystal, Azure and Faerie dragons into towns we meant also to decrease their stats.

I disagree
An Astral Town sounds like workable ideas, but it sounds like it has the same overall theme of the Conflux; purely magical creatures. If it does exist, though, it should include the existing Enchanters.
~O~
As for Faerie Dragons... they're my favorite dragons in terms of appearance. They could well be weakened to lvl 7 (although I'd vote to put them in a forest-oriented town like Rampart instead of a Magic-oriented town) and have their spell-casting stripped away, but please don't change their appearance. Please? Pretty please?
