In Heroes 3 or Heroes 4?
In Heroes 3 I think you made all the maps individually and then used the campaign editor to glue them together. In HOMM4 I think it's all done through the one editor, and I thought it was fairly obvious, but I don't know for sure because I haven't made any HOMM4 maps yet!

I believe HOMM IV also lets you import single scenarios, so you can paste and shuffle maps as desired.
What I want to know is, is there any way to look at the pre-made campaigns with the editor, just to see how they did things? All I can find is the single scenarios.

You have to extract the campaign files from the data.h4r file (or the storm.h4r for GS, etc). Use the extractor/builder program on this page, and extract the .h4c campaign files, then you can look at them in the editor.
