How to ban Fly/DD, diplomacy and cartographers.
This is a hack I did abt a year ago before I stopped playing heroes3. Pardon me if any of this is an old hat for the community by now.
Download http://muppet4.cs.chalmers.se/homm3hack.zip and extract to your Data directory, just like RMG.TXT:s
This stops:
- Fly/DD will not appear, unless forced in editor - even then they cannot be cast.
- Artifacts giving flying will not appear on map, utopias, markets etc unless forced - even then they cannot be equipped.
- Disables all map revealing: cartographers cannot be activated, expert(adv?) view air/earth are horribly expensive to cast (i think i set them to 1000sp - still within limits for a super hero).
- Disables heroes from learning diplomacy from univ or acquired "naturally". Will not protect from scholars/witches :-(
This was made with random maps in mind.
If anyone really cares I could explain the changes in more detail and why they work.
Also I have a java program generating RMG:s after specifications if any java programmers would be interested. (I remember I didn't consider it finished but still it could generate some maps..)

It sounds like your tool should only be used on random maps and maps the user has played before - well, and you did spcify random maps :-)
I've played a few maps where Fly and DD and the like were crucial; they made the map winnable. (This is particularly common right at the end of a map - to get to the very last place, you might need one of those two spells.) I think that means that when those spells or artifacts are forced in the editor, the ideal map-adjusting tool *would* let them through ...
Of course, the ideal map-adjusting tool would need to implement remote telepathy, so as to find out and reconcile the plans of the mapmaker with the preferences of the person(s) playing the map. :-)

Dragonsister, yes you are correct.
The hack is just a bunch of .TXT files controlling the game. Once you realize you are in a such situation that you need the fly spell to get further you could just save, delete/rename the corresponding .TXT file and reload.
Also funny effects COULD happen if only one of the players has the files in a multiplayer game. The changes has been tried in multiplayer but never when only one player has them..

I am interested in your java file for map generating. I'm taking Computer Science right now. It's fun to program.
