Circle of Life

Seeming how I am about 1 year+ behind most in H4, I need some help with these fixed (ugh) maps. hehe

I was just wondering about some of the stradegies for this map, (or even the game in general) seeming how it has been played most.  I would have put this in the library, but doesn't seem like many H4 peeps post there.  Figured I would give h4 a online chance, before I gave up all hope on it.

though most homm4'ers would disagree with me

I got learning to improve my strategies & efficiency for homm4 by playing the campaigns on the second most difficult setting (most difficult on some parts are simply impossible).

well if you have 56k then you must be a bit patient, but if you have dsl/cable/etc then conections shouldnt be an issue.  but contrary to what h3ers will tell you, online h4 is still very much playable for people with modems.. you just hafto watch which maps you play.. for instance, i wouldn't suggest playing imperial prison, because it's a monster at 130kb.. (saves on it can approach 1 MB lol) but any map 70k or less usually has good enough transfers.  i would say about 3/4 of maps on TOH are under 70k, so..

Connection shouldn't be a problem, I have cable access.  An example question I have is....

When do you attack the level 4's near starting castle guarding the arts and the ones guarding second castle?

When do you start taking mines?

(I just lost my hired hero trying to take my ore mine just outside first castle. lol  104 imps)  is that bad?  LOL

I do enjoy playing the campaigns, so I will give that a try, thx.

First of all Chubbs, just because a map is played alot doesnt make it a quality map.  Did you like Desert War in H3??  I would equate Circle for Life with Desert War. Both maps are maps that can be overly patternized to acquire quick easy kills.  Both maps had all of dirty tricks that veteran players on that map exploit to massacre alot of new to the map players.  Bottom line is Circle for Life is not the best map to learn on.

I would recommed "Shallow be thy Game" even tho I havent played that map for a long time, that was one of my all time favorite maps when I started.  Very high quality map!!

Also I have never loaded up a single campaign, hate those things, cant get more boring then that. Once you have played agasint a human player how can one regress into playing single player with computer. lol.

Glad to hear you are gonna Give H4 a shot.  Make sure you download the 3.3 MOD.  It has greatly improved H4.

Do you still have to have WoW expansion?  I only have the original game and have it patched up to 3.0.  I checked the link Ves posted in the thread about the MOD, but it was in some language I don't know and it was only for 3.2.  Is there another link somewhere?  Yes, I am lazy and didn't want to read through 11 pages to find it. lol

Go to FAQ before doing anything else.  Wouldn't hurt to read whole FAQ but the part you do need to read in order to know how to install the mod for reg h4 is Question 09.

You may be unclear as to which link is the "heroes_sfx.exe" ... it is the one that says

"heroes4.exe file of Heroes 4: Winds of War. Compatible with any version of "WoW" and any language."

Hopefully you can manage from there
Once you're done, to run the modded h4 you should click on the h4mod.exe (the icon that's a scale) and not the heroes4.exe (the WoW exe, which you don't want).

what about showdown?  I have played it a couple times (vs comp mind you) but it seemed like a pretty cool map.
