LOTR Return of the king responso

Quote:
I agree the stupid Paths of the dead was pretty short and i didnt like how they cut out the end where the hobbits come back and the shire is basically destroyed and the fact they didnt even take the 2 minutes to encounter Saruman and Wormtounge.  I was also pretty mad over the fact that the other Rangers didnt come to aid Aragorn in the Paths of the dead =/ and also they din show the Mouth Of Sauron at the black gate, i think they could have squeezed in a few more minutes just for the little things but overall the battle of Pelennor Fields kicked ass along with the whole of the movie, for the time limit he had i think Peter Jackson did a good job for those who hadnt read the book and well enough for those who had.

Peace

Wait for the extended version DVD.  There will be more.

In the Two Towers Extended DVD they put in an extra 43 minutes.

Alas, it's also very expensive. (Or maybe I don't have enough money or income)

The two towers extended version came with an irritating Gollum-figure.

the movie rocks!!!!

I think we can rest assured that the book will outlast the movie. The man was an Oxford scholar of ancient languages and the book was written back in the 1940's during and after the war. His friend was the well-known author, C.H. Lewis(Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe). This book is great without the movie and I think it will outlast this Peter Jackson representation. Think about how long the book has lasted thus far. This movie will be an interesting collector's item to go with the book and nothing more. As I said before the movie does something that the book does not. Many of Tolkien's fans and critics have long been saying that this book was a fiction heavily influenced by his experiences in the war. He adamantly denied it but this movie brings new light to that old scepticism. I for one shall never fear for my loving middle earth books written by an honourable Oxford scholar and professor, J.R.R. Tolkien.

I, as a Tolkien Maniac, should say that the movie was very disappointing.
First of all, I must say that Galadriel has terrible Elvish. Earendil should be pronounced E-aren-dil, not Erendil. (Has Erendil something to do with Erenion Gilgalad?) Even the worst Korean translation has accurate Elvish, and I did not want Galadriel spoiling it, she should be one of the best one.
Moreover, I wanted Glorfindel, not Arwen. I cannot deny that my reason was that I hate Arwen and Luthien, but many of my community members(I am an operator of a certain LotR community in Korea) shared my emotion. I heard Arwen speaking Sindarin so fast that I could not repeat it.(What a shame, I only heard Nin daer and Bruinen) However, though good at Sindarin she was, she was not Glorfindel, and no Tom Bombadil was enough.

This is only the first part of my anger at the movie. If you want more, please send me an email:soorim0714@hanmail.net. I want to have a friend to share my emotion with.

You should focus on what the movie is, not what it isn't.

Sounds like you are the only one that wants to have the entire book in the movie. Other people would like to sit for only 3 hours instead of 5 or 6.

I think you've got a very good point!!

The movie must NOT BE underestimated: IMO It's the greatest movie ever. Much because of the the great story, but also because Jackson is a great director - he deserves credit for that. And it has got 11 Oscars I think, one for the best movie, so I think that says something about the quality of the movie.

War was a large part of this segment of the trilogy. I think the movie, more so than the book, showed just what kind of an influence fighting in the war had on Tolkien. War does many things to a person. To some it changes them for the worse and to others it changes them for the better giving them a truly thankful opinion for the simple things in life.

I don't think old WWI veteran Tolkien would approve of the glorification of war presented in the film...

terje_the_mad_wizard,

I agree with you.

If we look at the facts then we will realize that it was The Hobbit that was published first. Lord of the Rings came after. Not only was his first book entitled such but it also focused on what J.R.R. Tolkien considered hobbits to be:
"hitherto passed over in history and legend, perhaps because they as a rule preferred comfort to excitement."

This was clearly his focus in a fictional period, created by him, known as "an ancient time between the age of Faerie and the dominion of men, when the famous Mirkwood was still standing, and the mountains were full of danger."

It is my opinion J.R.R. Tolkien created an entire atmosphere of danger, excitement, and corruptive power. These things can be found in war. However, I think he created all of it to enhance and support his reasons for his own personal affections for good times. I think his good times involved a merriment of the cozy hospitable hobbit hole sort. One with laughter, food, song, and good company.

In his lifetime he had seen much of the reality of war. I think that although he did volunteer for service to fight for his country, he longed for the times when he could return home and enjoy the good things life has to offer, simple everyday pleasures and comforts of the homebody sort.

Return of the King? Where??

I have read Return of the King like, 5 times and I actually got quite disapointed when I saw the movie. I loved it to death, but there were parts they took out, like the last battle in hobbiton. You know why they took it out?

Peter Jackson said he didn't like that chapter!

That's pretty stupid, if u ask me. Other people would surely like it. Well, it was his choice and the movie wasn't that bad. I loved it when Billy Boyd sang.

When Merry battled. Man what a beast. Okay. I'll shut it before people come after me. Whoops. Too late....gathered to many enemies already.
