I think UbiSoft will create H5 that will have no similarities with other ones (only heroes, creatures and spells). At first , I thought that UbiSoft will screw up, but now I think they won't. If they're looking for ideas in HC, they'll create good game.

Actually I thought the same thing of UbiSoft, but just until I saw the artwork in Celestial Havens. It looked real nice, and I hope HoMM5 will be worth playing.
And there will be a connection to the older series.
I wonder how the 3d HoMM will look.. I hope it will be better then Might and Magic people's faces

3DO gone? Hopefully Ubisoft will do a better job at the next Heroes game. I liked some of the new features of IV so much, that I can't get myself to play III again. On the other hand, except for the campaigns, I never found any IV maps which were as enjoyable to play as III. Somehow the balance or strategy aspect of the game took a turn for the worse with IV.
Currently I am enjoying Age of Wonders Shadow Magic, which is similar to Heroes, but differs in ways that make the game more interesting. Hope the next Heroes version goes a bit in this direction.

How can 1 game sink a company? Besides, I heard HOMM4 got great reviews and sold ok. The thing I heard was that 3DO let all the steam out of New World Computing's tank before the game even got finished. Meaning, NWC made the game knowing that 3DO was going under. 3DO cut funding from what I had heard and NWC wanted much more features in both HOMM4 and MM9 but couldn't do it because 3DO gave them such a small budget.
So I doubt 3DO sank based soley off the sucess of HOMM4. Actually, HOMM4 would have been a much better game if 3DO had given them all the support they needed. So my question is...what happened to 3DO? Was it the Army Men games that got em? I know HOMM4 did not sink this ship. I mean for a while there 3DO was on fire! Look at all the expansion packs and add on's they had for HOMM3! Plus they had Warriors of Might and Magic, Legends of Might and Magic, a HOMM for the console, online Arcomage, a whole community website. Some kinda iceburg popped up out of the water and sank this party cruise and we players have not gotten the full story. If there are any inside experts out there can you please explain to us what really happened to 3DO because it was NOT HOMM4!

Legends and Crusaders never were really popular. M&M9 was a big flop, Quest for the Dragonbone Staff sucked too. The first Army Men games are classics, but then it all went downhill. Also, if HoMM4 didn't repel so many longtime fans, it wouldn't be far behind The Sims on sales which would guarantee 3DO at least a half decent financial situation.
Need I say more?

Err.. no.
Like I said, Heroes of Might and Magic 4 and Might and Magic 9 were both games that got rushed out the door and were made with on a very small budget. What you're saying is purely speculation. Using your logic I could say it was the High Heat series that sank them. My point was that something happened to 3do BEFORE, HOMM4 and MM9 even made it to beta. I mean the game didn't even ship with a multi-player module!! HOMM without a multi player module or even at least a hotseat? No, the sales of HOMM4 and MM9 had nothing to do with it. Something broke down within the infastructure of the company before these games even had a chance to be fully developed. I wonder what happened? Yeah, legends, crusaders, warriors of might and magic were not stellar games but I'm sure they did at least as well as some other games that were on the market back then. Well, I guess we won't know. It looked like 3DO was doing well. The first High Heat with Sammy Sosa was a good game i heard. Maybe they shoulda charged more for Arcomage? But if anyone has some ACTUAL PROFESSIONAL AND VALID information on the breakdown of 3do or what Van Canegham has been saying, please post it or toss us a link. Thanks.

about bankruptcies
A common cause for companies going bankrupt is overspending. In many cases a company producing superior products that also sell quite OK goes bankrupt because of too high overhead costs or even too much money invested into product development. So, ironically, the better game you make the faster you go bankrupt.

The 3DO Company (NASDAQ: THDO) was founded in 1991 under the name SMSG, Inc. by Electronic Arts co-founder Trip Hawkins in a partnership with seven other companies, including Matsusnowa, AT&T, MCA, Time Warner, and Electronic Arts. The company's original objective was to create a next-generation, CD-based video game system which would be manufactured by various partners and licensees; 3DO would collect a royalty on each console sold and on each game manufactured. To game publishers, the low $3 royalty rate per game was a better deal than the higher royalties paid to Nintendo and Sega when making games for those consoles. The launch of the platform in October, 1993 was well-promoted, with a great deal of press attention in the mass media as part of the "multimedia wave" in the computer world at the time.
Unfortunately the 3DO console itself was priced at $700, and the promised "early adopters" never showed up to purchase mass quantities of games. The quality of 3DO games was perceived as low, on the whole. When the Sony PlayStation appeared in 1994 with its hardware 3D graphics support and its outstanding game software, it smashed all remaining hopes for the 3DO console. In 1996, The 3DO Company sold its console rights to Matsusnowa and changed its business to develop and publish games for the PlayStation as well as other game consoles and PCs.
After abandoning the 3DO console, the company's biggest hit was its series of Army Men games, featuring the generic green plastic soldier toys that had been re-popularized by the unrelated movie Toy Story. Its Might and Magic and Heroes of Might and Magic series from subsidiary New World Computing were also popular and lucrative for the company. After struggling for several years, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2003.

What a pity
And to all things comes an end.
I wouldn't really care very much that 3D0 would disappear if Ubisoft hadn't decided to scrap the old storyline. So maybe I really disliked the Gathering Storm veering away and how I hated Winds of War because I really loved the old storylines. But Ubisoft scrapped AXEOTH! I couldn't take it. I refused to buy or play HoMM 5 and hoped that somebody would design a new fan-made campaign for Heroes 4 based off the old storyline. It had happened before. Weren't the HoMM chronicles about Tarnum fan-made? And I discovered equilibris. Equilibris had made no campaigns but promised new campaigns. And I sincerely hope that the campaign will be of the old storyline.
And to all things shall come a beginning.
