Is there a ghost in the machine???
<NOTE: This post was removed from "Why the Hatred" because my original intent was to start a new thread. I did not realize until just now that the post turned up there instead of being a whole nre thread. Apologies.>
For about the fourth time in the last couple of days, I have received a series of blank IMs indicating they were sent on December 31, 1969 at 7:00 p.m.
Is this a ghost in the machine? Is it the machine's birthday? Is it somebody else's birthday and the gods are trying to tell me something?
What happened on December 31, 1969 in history? Anybody got a clue???
Just what the heck is going on here? Is anybody else getting a series of blank IM's that purport to have been sent on December 31, 1969 at 7 p.m.???
Any wild, rampant creative speculation on this occurrence is greatly encouraged. The wilder the better....

There are a few theories. The true one is that I kinda broke HC when I was still using my previous account (back in 1969) and now people keep receiving blank IMs from the past.

LOL Nice try Woock. I doubt you were even born in 1969, and I know for certain HC wasn't. We were still playing D&D on a cardboard sheet and the smallest computer in the world still filled a whole room.

That's a bug.
It would seem you've been hitting the back button fairly often as of late, because when you go back to a page on which you received an IM, a blank IM will sometimes pop up with, what I believe, is the earliest possible date these IMs could read and no message. Just delete it and move on.

Just recollect 31.12.1999 so many talks about Y2K and nothing was happened. I think it was Y69's problem, some lamp machines had problem with transition to 70's.

It all happened in a small fishing village near Novosibirsk, Siberia (Russia)...
Early in the morning of december 31, 1969, a small meteoric object crashed near the banks of the Ob river, setting a local newspaper office on fire. The fire spread quickly in the dry winter air, and in no time half of the village, mainly composed out of wooden huts, was engulfed with flames.
Attempts were made to cover the roofs of a number of houses with snow and permafrost dirt but the fire jumped over due to the heavy wind, and access to the river from the village was completely cut off. While the fishermen were evacuated out of the village away from the flames, by a few police officers on their horses, about twice a dozen of brave men were running for the hills in the east of the village.
When they arrived, they prepared their boats and rowed up the river to see if there was anything they could still do from up there. Fighting against the strong wind, they soon realized if anything there still could be done, they would never reach the village in time. Just at the moment when they turned their boats to turn back, the steering man of the rear boat saw 'the thing'.
A brownish sluggish like goo, about the size of a calf, slid from the dockside into the water, burning heavily. The man shouted immediately, pointing at the riverside, but by the time the others had looked up, the dockside had already been clouded by a fog of steam.
Back ashore the man told his tale and the others convinced him that it had just been smoke and ashes. Images from the past of a dying village. He never spoke of it again, and the thing he claimed to have seen was never spotted again. So maybe it is all just a tale...
...but if it isn't, where could 'the thing' be by now? It could have infiltrated in HC's headquarters which used to be in Russia (strange things do happen there, I can tell). It could even be sending you IM's with the exact same date as the tragical accident that whiped that fishing community off the map. It could even be inside your computer.
