Drake Master, what level was your hero? How did you get skeletons and vampires simultaneously? I thought that the necromancy was capped - i.e. only certain amount can be raised from one battle, and is measured in XP. I remember the campaign where I played with necromancy, was really high level and was getting only 5(?) vampires per battle ...

My first skill to be developped is order.
Slow,Mass Slow,Blind, and Hypnotize are far better than tactics... though there were battle I missed tactics.

The second one is Scouting, for the obvious reasons.

Combat I recomandly develop in the campigns, where you
have the time and the exp. to develop more the one or 2
skills.

on the stand alone map I usually doen't develop Combat instead my here always drinks immortality poition before
and if needed during the battle.

Sometime it is good idea to develop life magic a little
bit for the heal spell. but not more than that.(unless
you are in the campiegn)

Opeth, I have a friend and we play hot seat with him, with random races, but with one rule - no Order and no Death. This is for no other reason but that we are bored from those races, especially genies and vampires. It is interesting to develop strategies for the other races. For example we recently had a game where I built up a druid for a single month that could solo almost anything on the map. (GM nature)
I won't mention that we play on champion.

Scouting is useful but it depends on the map - for example if there are much things that can be "stolen". Is the map large or small? Whether to develop a thief is a choice that must be made in the beginning.
Having a tactician in any army is a must imo. May be it is not true for the campaigns since there the heroes become so powerful that they can solo everything alone.

Heroes soloing everything? What have I missed? Level 4's usually take out all heroes, no matter the level... But maybe I just haven't gotten that far yet. After all, I am just a lousy player who've never even gaotten through the Life campaign...

Hehe recently my barbarian hero in the campaign killed 32 behemots and ~300 centaurs with his (almost) bare hands even without using his immortality P But hey, he has ~175 def and ~150 attack, and knows basic nature magic spells like summon leperchaun and stone skin :-) Leperchauns rock :-)
