Everyone has a favourite town!?
I will be brief so please hear me out!
I noticed that almost everyone who plays HoMM3 has a favorite town! I'd like to know what is your favourite town and why do you like it so much!
I can tell you that Conflux is my favourite town because I like the atmosphere that is created , because the elementalists can become very powerful mages and because you recive as twice as many Phoenixes as any other 7 level troops.

Rampart 4ever
I know my way with all towns, but I have to say that my absolute favourite is definetly Rampart. Partly because, when you first play a game you pick your side mainly cosidering its appearances. And the Rampart town seemed the most appealling, from this point of view.
I was only to discover, that Rampart creatures are cheap, strong and fast, so they did well in combat. Buildings like the Treasury, or the Mystic Pond can really help with your economy. Also, Rampart heroes, if their abilities are well speculated can really be decisive in a game. Try beating level 20 Kyrre with Exp. Logistics in a race back to your castle!

Yeah i have to say that my favourite castle is Rampat.I love this castle because of his heroes nad his aura that is every where around it.It has a 5 level magegulid so you magic is not a problem Great Heroes one of the Best Heores in Might and Magic realm is Gelu a rampart and forest protector hero.Well in is still don't know if rampart will remain my most favurite castle maybe i will move to tower or Conflux but for now i'm staing with Rampart and well h4 will come and then i can finaly chose.

Necropolis Or Castle
Ok, so I am newer to ToH and online HOMM3. So I really haven't played as much as I would like with all town types. But, even though I have to agree that the Rampart does rock, I find myself torn between Thant and the Necropolis (were it only a little stronger for troops) and any Castle hero and the Castle (love those AA's and Expert Leadership). Perhaps this is a statement of my personality? Flirting with the darkside, but stays to the light? :{>

no clear favourite
There are several factors with influency my choice of town... map, opponent town, mood 
Like Dungeon for its heroes, magic, blackies and portal of summoning
Prefer Stronghold when I'm in the mood to deal some raw damage (Craig Hack is great then)
Inferno on a map like desert war is cool too... nice to get many efreet sultans
Necro is the coolest town IMO, but mostly I'm too lazy to "harvest" skeletons

Hmm.. perhaps Stronghold? because of behemoths and cyclops kings, and is fun to watch opponents suffer when u have casted that mass haste 
Also i like castle too for three reasons: Arch Angel (normal angel looks awful), Crusader (swordsman sucks), Champion .
And for Rampart: Grand Elves, Rangers, Gold Dragons and Centaur Captains.
Necropolis: Dread Knights, Thant, Animate Dead,
Dungeon: Warlocks, Overlords, Black Dragons and Armageddon, Minotaurs.
Inferno: Arch Devils, Efreet Sultans.
Tower: Titans, Arch Magi...
Fortress: Mighty Gorgons and Hydras.

Preferences...
My choice is Cstle or Dungeon,...i don't like conflux because it's huge advantage on the 7th level units...ussualy an Archangel can beat 2 Phoenixes but the Conflux unit properties destroy the advantage of the Castle...if you compare the units it's something like this:
Pikemen after Centaur Captains
Marksmen after Harpy Hags,Storm Elementals
Griffins ....not of much use at the beggining but later...
Crusaders so good but not much life
Zealots no melee penalty makes them difficult to block them
Champions free upg on the stable and a very good fighting unit
and last but not list
Archangels except Behemoths no other 7th unit can beat them 1 on 1...

I think that my favourite town is Rampart or Dungeon. Rampart:because it's a wild town,related with nature;Dungeon : I think I like minotaurs and dragons and the mana vortex.

Rampart!
Rampart is my favourite, because of Unicorns!!! But also its a very peaceful town and very relaxing. Elves are great shooters, you get level 5 spell guild, gold dragons are better than black in my opinion, and all the creatures are very fast. And u start with centaurs so you scout pretty fast too. AND some good heroes like elleshar and kyrre.

Rampart is my fave as well. I play randoms mostly, and there is nothing better than seeing Ivor in your tavern day 1 and centaurs are the best lvl 1 unit easily I think. I seem to get a much faster start when I have those early upgraded elves, doing it in the first week on a random can be a big advantage

Well for a long time Rampart was my absolute favourite, but I must admit I dont find their heroes that great, But right on with them cents, best 1. level units in the game. Then I switched to Dungeon, mainly coz of Sephinroth with Mana Vortex is awesome, specially if u get that little spell called ressurection 
But these days Stronghold rules my world. Reason number one is that u have 3 level 7 monsters week 2 instead of 2, compared to rampart and dungeon. And secondly because they are the only town with fortress where u can get all dwellings and castle week 1
Besides the point that I love when the other guy is shacking his pants of, in fear that my guy Gurnisson might be equiped with recanters

I have two favorites...
Fortress and Necropolis...
They are not the best towns, I know, but I really like some units in there.
Vampire Lords took my heart after I saw Heroes 2 and "Blah!" sound effect when they attacked...
Dread Knight are so mighty that I really thing they are the one best units in the game along with Mighty Gorgons from Fortress.
Bad thing is that these towns are pretty weak otherwise...
I don't really like Stronghold. It was one of my favorites in Heroes 1 and 2 but after they replaced wolves with wolf riders I have since hated the town.
Rampart has nice scenery and have cool units, but I have never learned to play with them. Only one ranged unit which gets hammered. All of them aren't so quick...Can you call Dwarves and Dendroid quick? Dendroids do almost zero damage when compared to Minotaur Kings. I really pity Pegasi as they die so quickly, they're like manticores...If you put them to front they will die.
I'm not a fan of Inferno either. Yes, I like that there is one evil town more but one weak ranged unit and one flying unit below 7th unit doesn't really make my day. Demons and pit fiends should be more powerful in my view so inferno could have this powerhouse in ground units.
Other towns are pretty even in power but I don't find them my favorites as I find Fortress and Necropolis.
In the HoMM IV, Necropolis pretty much seem to be my favorite, but also other towns have their chances to become my favorites...

Dungeon!!!!
I really like Dungeon! Because the creaturs LOOK COOL and DO COOL! ALmost every creature has a special attack!
Troglodyte=Cant Become blind.. Handy for fighting unicorns.. BUT if an unicorn attacks trogs then i think they already death.. But still.. heroes of the enemy can't cast blind on them...
Harpy=Very cool looking and usefull half Vulture half UGLY aunt.. She Flies back to the space she was standing.. that's handy because the enemy cant do an attack back!
Evil Eye=Also very cool.. They can shoot very far and are i think the best shooting creatures in the game!
Medusa=Also Shooter.. But i really like her looks and her turn to stone ability! Very usefull!
Minotaur=They have many morale and are very strong.. I use them almost every time to attack first...
Scorpicore=They are weak but cool looking.. Just let them defence the first round then when the enemies are closer then attack a weaker unit and bam!!!
Black and Red Dragons-Very cool and usefull units.. The most strongest after the titans..
I really hate the Castle town.. Only Arc angels and Gryphons are cool looking the other suck!
Other towns are cool too! But i prefer the Dungeon town

Melissa i'm with you Rampart rules! Best level 1 troop.Dwarfs have a high life and are resistent to spells.Gold Dragons are very fast only Phonix can be faster.Well i like them beacuse of thery peacefull life and i don't know i'm realy attached.

Shooters RULE
For me it would have to be a hard choice between Rampart or Tower... since they both have some awesome perks. I NEVER go poor with rampart and ive won some pretty close battles by having a whole lot of dendroids to duke it out. But lately ive been playing tower... since its so easy to build up and it has the most awesome shooter in the game... TITANS!!! Tower also is a caster town... i mean arch magi to lower spell costs and a library ... wut more could you ask for?
If i had to choose... i would pick tower since gold dragons sorta suck in the whole level 7 creature realm. and plus how can u resist an extra 5th level spell???
oh yeah... i guess id go for conflux if i had the expansion :-( but since i dont... tower rules!!!

I never can pick a favorite town
I never can pick a favorite town, I think I like most any town as long as I get a decent hero or 2 to build. This is why I like playin random town, If my opponent wants to choose I never can decide, I usually end up matching his town or mebe takin a different town so I can also start with a hero similar to the one he wants to start with (i.e. another log hero or armourer specialist)
what is important to me on day one is the mix of heroes I get, I like seeing a couple magic heroes for scouts, alamar or aine for a wonderful scholar to teach my main and run around collecting spells, mebe deemer, asilyn, soly or loyonis for a good spell for my scholar to teach my main and then for a main I usulally wanna see one of the logistics heros or an offense or armour specialist (not that I am asking for a lot here lol but this kind of blend for me is more important that the town I get.

apart from the Rampart I also like the Fortress.
Mainly beacuse from 3rd to 7th level creatures all have a specialty.
Dragonsflies dispel and cast weakness as the same time. Excellent if you are fight on magical ground as it affect all.
Wveryns use poison
Basilisk turn the enemy to stone
Gorgons cast death stare
Hydra attack all hexes bside them and no reliation.
Not a bad force and can disrupte the battle greatly.
Heroes are not bad too.

Variables
My favorite town is probably Inferno for the simple fact I've had many of the most fun games when I was playing Inferno. I think Zud is similiar opinion to me mostly though, I have a hard time choosing towns so I usually go for racial enemy to town my opponent picks or else pick the same town. I like to use same mix of heroes as he does mostly, though I take offense specialists over armorers usually. I pick a might hero for longer games when the skills are more important than the stats, and I pick magic heroes for shorter games when stats more important. Other than that, I love AB's so Stronghold is favored, then I like Tower's lineup, and then probably Necro's atmosphere and lineup- Fortress, Dungeon next, last I like Rampart, and dead last is Castle. I just never liked Castle much for some reason. I remember H2 so much when I see it and I miss paladins and peasants.
