What is the best magic skill for a non-magic hero?
I was going to say "Might Hero", but Nobility and Scouting are not Might Hero skills.
So, if I have a hero with GM Combat, Tactics, Nobility, Scouting, and all their secondary skills, which magic skill should I pick?

If I have a hero with GM stealth then I prefer to travel without any creatures to retain invisibility on the adventure map. This is great fun and you can still gain experience by sneaking around any armies. However at some point you have to fight and cause damage, so I prefer to have Nature and use the Summoning spells associated with it.

I say Order. You won't need the Charm ability much because you already have diplomacy, but your first-level spells are really useful and once you get up to lvls 3-4 your hero will be able to cast some serious spells.

It might sound weird, but I think the best thing for a tank hero is Life or Order Magics. Order has some very serious spells, that might help in early hero development, such as Blur, Preception, Power Drain, Spell Steal, Slow, Bind Flyer, Dispell. And it is very powerfull in high levels, however combat heroes rarely achieve high level or get good spells. Life Magic is the best, for keeping your tank heroes alive: Bind Wound, Heal, Regeneration, Heavenly Shield, Spiritual Armor. Also to protect yoursef against Order, Death, Chaos and Nature aligments with Wards and cancel negative effects with Exorcism, to prevent creatures attacking with Song of Peace. SO in a conclusion, Life is the best magic for combat hero...

Totally agree with Lich. Order or Life.
But if your hero already has "GM Combat, Tactics, Nobility, Scouting, and all their secondary skills", then the game should already be over a long time ago. Thats already nearly 80 levelups (or altars etc.). Even campaigns give only about level 40-something heroes...

But wouldn't the combined amount of level upgrades and power ups (like altars, academies, etc.) you get or visit during a campaign, give you more than 80 upgrades? I've never finished a campaign (shame on me; I know) but during the first two-three maps in the Life campaigns, I got 3-4 level 17 heroes or thereabouts, so it should be possible to get very high levelled heroes...

The combined experience of 4 level 17 heroes is just enough to get one hero from level 33 to level 34.

What he said. Life magic bolsters combat heroes and their armies to ridiculous states. Get Life Magic and get it high, quickly. Cast the following spells:
Mass Fervour (do it first, so your hero can cast the other ones quicker)
Defender
Mass Bless
Prayer (Unless you're fighting life)
Celestial Armour
Mass Ward (Depending on the enemy alignment).
That will tip any bloody scales in your favour.

Death Magic won't help you much.[Raise Skeletons,Poison won't have much power]
Chaos Magic and Nature Magic take time to develop, though Chaos Magic can be an interesting alternative[Bloodlust,Sparks,Haste.]
Order Magic sounds good to me.[Flight, precision,Steal Enchantment[
Life Magic is the best choice, healing, spiritual armor and bless, all of these with only basic life magic.

Personally I like to use Chaos magic and nature magic. Don't know why, but I like those. Order is also good; some nice offensives there. I am not fan of life magic or death magic, they are not my favorites to say it that way
