Impossible
Hi I'm a pretty good HOMM3 player and I just found out about this site. I'm currently going through and beating all the SOD campaigns on impossible. I've run into a slight obstacle though. I'll tell you how far I am and then maybe I can get some advice.
Got through Gelu's campaign very easily on impossible. Sharpshooters are imbalanced. It was possible to rush in the first week and win by the second and once diplomacy comes the whole thing is a joke.
Yog's is easy too--the first lvl is pretty hard and requires some luck but the rest are very easy. Once the artifacts come you can do secondary hero abuse.
Ok. Gem's second scenario. Here's my problem. I've tried to beat this a lot. Red (the necs) starts with two towns and two expansions nearby with big garrisons. It's easy enough to expand to four towns, but it's not enough because one of them is useless (no fort, and the other is difficult to keep) On impossible it's pretty much impossible to get to equal troop strength. Is there any way to beat this lvl?

well even if you do, make sure your heroes are leveled up to max
I think its more a matter of luck really, if you can get her Earth magic early and slow, you should be ok.

when you play campains you are not "pretty good" - then you are a n00b
you should try multiplayer and soon you gonna se that there is a long road to follow to become "pretty good"

YEP! ...thats for sure... if u beat a comp on any variation u STILL PLAY LIKE CRAP!!
If really want to show some skill go and kill a high ranked player... else say u r a noobie.
You dont believe me? Well unfortunately those are the facts.
This board here was once a place with players that could share some interesting advices or "knowledge"...
...now this board is spammed to death by NOOOOOBIES that will never learn how to play this game (as long as u play against the comp there will never be any progress).
Sorry that i wrote this in your thread, wasnt any personal attack. Its just the constitution of this board nowadays that takes me down.

Well, it is right that playing against humans pushes ur skills but I dont think the word noob is right.
noob means newbie and I dont think that e is new to the game (besides n00b is not a very polite word..)

>>>YEP! ...thats for sure... if u beat a comp on any variation u STILL PLAY LIKE CRAP!!
200%, small, random map, no underground, you against 2 allied computer players, everything random . . you won't win everytime. That is a fact.
>>>If really want to show some skill go and kill a high ranked player... else say u r a noobie.
I guess I'm a "noobie", by your definition. I have a feeling our definitions of "skill" and "fun" will be different.
>>>You dont believe me? Well unfortunately those are the facts.
For you and your TOH brethren, maybe.
For one thing, I don't have the patience for multiplayer, because of the down time, waiting for battles to play out.
I've learned a lot just from reading these message boards.
Xarfax, you in particular, have shed some light on a great many topics.
However, I don't believe in splitting stacks, chaining, and algorithm bugs. While they are all viable strategies . . . and most likely enhance your gameplay, they're just not for me.
Certain people might want to play this game with integrity, to enjoy all the little nuances, and not to beat it through exploits. I can guarantee that the computer will never leave a game.
After all, what percentage of your multiplayer games are decided by the map (wandering stacks, artifact placement, etc.)????
If I had been designing the game engine for multiplayer, I would allow opponents to control wandering monsters when another player is in battle . . .
Don't get me wrong, I'm not intending to start some great debate/war over this . . just that different players have different mindsets on how this game can/should be played. To each their own.
You have every right to question the validity of anyone that just comes posting here with "I'm a pretty good HOMM3 player" . . . I just want to state that the TOH/multiplayer way is not the ONLY way.
Sincerely,
Your friendly neighborhood noobie

I wonder whether those who claim not to believe in chaining always walk back with their main hero to their main town at the beginning of a new week to let him/her buy the new troops :-)

geez some serious snows here...
I just said that I was pretty good so that you wouldn't give me basic advice (like 1st week build) that I didn't need. I didn't claim to be better than you. I didn't claim to be very good. Jesus christ some of you are so stuck-up it scares me. "Spammed?" For goodness sake it's a goddamn message board. This game has no noobs--it's not like WarcraftIII or something where you have to deal with playing with inexperienced players. I'm not on your team, playing against you, anything. I take up one thread on this board. If you are so insecure and pathetic that you actually FEEL DOWN when new posters show up at your message board and haven't been completely loser-ized yet like yourself, then you need to get on some serious medication. Not everyone is a big enough dork to spend their life on message boards and obscure communities for games--some people can play a game without getting obsessed.
And if you're so good then give me some advice on how to beat that level. You can't do any stupid "hit and runs" because you aren't allowed to lose your hero, and you don't have the money to "chain." What now snow?

@khapsidapsi: explain how you chain then.
@dellusional: you are a n00b.
come online and play and youll pick up several new strategies. Then use them for your singleplayer tosses if you are stupid enough to go back instead of proving yourself online.

Haile,
With a small map, this isn't a problem. There is a novel concept of having two main heroes with the armies divvied up appropriately.
>>>@khapsidapsi: explain how you chain then.
Sir Stiven,
I'm flattered that you spent even one second trying to goof on my name, because that appears to be the amount of time you spend thinking when you type. Not all maps require chaining. Not all players play for highest score. Not all players take advantage of every single glitch. Some players try to compensate for the horrendous AI. If you eliminate chaining, the computer has another advantage. Now you have to decide on how important those armies are going to be, and whether you should attack now, or get the armies and let the computer build up another week . . .
Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time . . . 8)

>>>chaining is useful always... remember most people in here dont play small maps..
LordLazy,
I couldn't agree more. But, because I do play small maps, and because I feel that chaining gives me an advantage over the computer AI (which needs all the help it can get), I choose not to chain.
>>>Although... stiven did not use much time telling you the facts... his post still is facts.. if u dont believe in them... sure... bur dont come here telling how it is when you havent tested it out yourself.
I'm not trying to tell anyone how to play, or which way is better. I'm just expressing that their are different ways of playing. I would have thought this forum serves a purpose in allowing others to express their opinions. To have someone tell me that "multiplayer is the only way to play, otherwise you're a noob" is just wrong.
That's my opinion, and I'm entitled to be wrong. 8)
However, I have been discussing ideas and strategies on how to enchance single player mode. Tell me the crime in that???

you should be flattered i even spend my time trying to make sense to your n00bish game.
I asked you a question.
You answered with plenty of bla bla bla about boring other things to try and change the subject and look less stupid.
I dont care how much time you spent writing that, because you didnt answer my question n00b
So.. my question stands:
"explain how you chain then."
oh and btw, if thats your "taunting" you better learn more than to chain units on heroes3...

Sir Stiven,
A predicatable response. Utterly devoid of any rational thought. Was I asking you to help me??????

I thought I made it pretty clear that I don't "chain" in the sense of having more than 2 heroes chaining units across an entire board. I do not use heroes for the sake of transporting units, ie no chaining. This is my caveat . . . how many different ways should I explain it??
>>>oh and btw, if thats your "taunting" you better learn more than to chain units on heroes3...
Er, it's a Monty Python quote. *sigh*
That, in and of itself, tells me everything I need to know about you.

so basically you just spent another post talking about nothing and still avoided my question.
The reason i asked if you know what chaining is was because you so nicely wrote "However, I don't believe in splitting stacks, chaining, and algorithm bugs. While they are all viable strategies . . . and most likely enhance your gameplay, they're just not for me.

So i wonderd if you actually had any idea of what you were talking about.
Judging from your previous posts id take that as a "no".
And you can quote whatever you want, youre still a n00b... and in your case your also still a n00b that needs some training in "taunting"

OMG Watch out! The n00b is lose!
kwahraps you are good at playing against the computer but you suck at playing against a human. I dont think anyone questions that. Instead, the argument seems to be about is playing against humans better than playing against the AI? The answer is: Yes

My point was (and still is) dont judge TOHers for using tactics as chaining when you dont know what the tactic is about.
get online and learn the game instead of just talking n00bish here

bjorn190 :
No one questions it, because no one cares. I do not have the time for online playing. I've got a 1 year old and a 4 year old, and that leaves me about an hour or two a night to play single player maps, often small random maps.
I never offered the argument that playing the AI is better than playing against humans. Stay on topic, please.
I haven't seen this much hostility since Roseanne Barr sang the national anthem.
