im always finding myself teaching noobs.
but i dont play Heroes IV anymore, because i dont have it installed and i dont have the disc with me on this computer.
but i play Bg2 online, which is HELL to get working. i reckon 80% of all people who buy the game try it online, and about 40% of those get it working. took me ages. so after explaining to dozens of noobs how to get it working, i decided to post my own tutorial of how i got it working. then theyll come into a game with you and either:
A)suck big time
B)Cheat and ruin the game, quite possible ruining your current player and/or steal all your stuff
C)drop out after a few seconds
*sigh* people should get paid to train noobs, since i dont do it any more.

The differences between games such as Heroes and others such as Warcraft are marketting and developement. You will always know when a new Warcraft game is in developement, and you will ALWAYS be able to test/experiment with the game (Beta tests, for example)
When (if) Heroes V is released, it will be completely out-of-the-blue and will most likely be completely different from what most people expected (ie: when Heroes IV came out). It will have had minimal testing, be underdeveloped, and be of a far lower standard than it could have been with public testing, comments, etc.
Ok, back on the 'noob' topic.
Just a question for you all: would you consider me to be a 'noob' to HoMM if I had never played an online game of HoMM before, even though I have played the series since the release of HoMM 1 (although I don't play HoMM 4)?
Now I believe in online play, as it adds such a fundamental element to the game that cannot be ignored; however, despite being a competent player of HoMM 3, I had never realised that playing HoMM online was possible! I know many people that play HoMM, and there are many people that I have shown this game to, but not a single one of them has played online -- even though they play online games frequently -- because they never knew about it.
They (did 3DO make HoMM4? I don't know, as I only play HoMM 2/3) almost got themselves together by adding the 'play online' capability on the main screen of HoMM 4, but it always said that the feature wasnt supported, as you needed Gamespy/updated version, which wasn't at all obvious.
To top it off:
Quote: The community might be larger than you think. For every tournament player out there, there are dozens of people who play campaigns or hot seat games.
The Heroes community is very vast, it's just that the ONLINE community is very small. Noone I know IRL has played in a tournament, and I know roughly 20 people who play(ed) HoMM quite a lot.
