Need help running Heroes I on my new computer

I just got a copy of the original Heroes of Might & Magic in the mail that I ordered off ebay.  I was hoping to run it on my Mac laptop (which is a powerbook 12).  It loaded fine, but when I try to open the game and play it, it just closes.  The requirements say I need a 13 inch monitor, but other than that everything is fine (I assume, anyway).

Does anyone know if it's possible to run the game on my computer?  If not, then I guess I'll have to resell it on ebay, because this is the only mac I have.

Should be where you installed the game. It wasn't called Setup, I think 'Install' was the right one

When I ran the install thing it didn't have a place to turn off the sound, unless I missed it.

I dunno about the mac version, but the DOS version of H1 would not run on windows XP for me so it required a program like DOSbox to run it. Could be something similar.

I got mine running on XP
I just set compatibility for Win95 (as far as I remember) and it works ^^

You actually have to set your Sound card to NO SOUND CARD at the sound card option

Last dumb question, I promise.  Where do I turn off the soundcard?  At the install screen there aren't any options I can see, just an install button and some text.  I also looked through my computer's system files and didn't find anything about a soundcard.

There should be a seperate setup file to run (at least there usually is on in old games).

Where you installed Homm1, is a Setup. There should be an option like "Change sound card"

There isn't a setup option anywhere.  In the Heroes of Might and Magic file, there's a Data folder, Games folder, Maps folder, the Read Me! file and the game icon.  The CD has a Sound folder (which has the sound effects in it, but no options), the King's Bounty folder, the Anim folder and the Heroes of M&M Installer.

When I open the Installer, my options are Drive (choose where to save it), Quit, and Install.  There's also some text, which I'll paste here:

Quote:

Heroes of Might and Magic Installation

Version 1.0.0

The installer will create a folder named “Heroes of Might and Magic” to hold the installed files.  The installer will install these files:

Heroes of Might and Magic - The Heroes of Might and Magic application.
Read Me! - Last minute information.
Data Folder - Sound and graphics data.
Maps Folder - Game map data.
Apple Modem Tool - Enables modem play.
AppleTalk ADSP Tool - Enables network play.
Serial Tool - Enables serial port play.

Note:  You will still need to use the CD to play the game.  These files are only a subset of the data files.  The CD contains the rest of the game data.

Use the Drive button to select the disk where you would like to install Heroes of Might and Magic. Click the Install button to begin the installation.

Note: Some virus-protection programs (GateKeeper, SAM, Virex, etc.) may warn you about some of the operations performed by the installer. This is normal. You should always give the installer permission to perform the requested operation. You may find it easier to disable any virus-protection programs before running the installer.

When I click on Install, it automatically installs the whole thing, never providing me any chance to change any options, and once it's installed it just has the folders I already listed.  Unless I'm just looking in the completely wrong place, the things you guys are telling me to change aren't there.

As far as I know, my version is the original Mac version.

For what it's worth, King's Bounty, the older game from 1991 that comes on the CD with it, runs fine.

Oh well.  If it doesn't work, I guess I can just play Heroes 3 instead.  I just bought a copy on Ebay for $4.95

its possible the game is too old for your OS. I have a mac running OS9.2
and Heroes2 was not compatible with it. It kept blowing up

I think that might be it.  Do you know of any programs available for download that could maybe fix this?  If not, I'm going to have to sell it again.
