Yes it is. Moreover CD-DA is perfectly working under Windows XP. In basic case if Your system drive is C: and D: is Your CD-ROM drive then You should insert game CD into this drive (D: )
In general You should use CD/DVD drive (physical or virtual) with earliest drive letter possible. Then everything will work as it should.

Well, I have already tried that and it did not work. My real (hardware) DVD-ROM had a Letter which is smaller than all the virtual Drives in System, but it did not help. The Drive's Letter in Window's Registry was OK. Maybe the number of Drives in System has Influence? I have many Drives (Hardware DVD-ROMs are "K:" and "L:"). Will try something again...

Windows XP or Windows XP SP3? Difference between them is very HUGE! The first one supports COM-Port Joystics, the last one does not support COM-Port Joysticks!

Oh my God... I have done it!
In XP's Disk Management changed CD/DVD-Drive's Letter to D:, installed the Game from it and Music appeared! I am happy! Many Thanks to you!
By the way, my XP SP3 OS is installed on the Disk "O:". Do not ask how that happened, my PC is full of Surprises

Heroes 2 Gold is now available through GoG.com
And, works on every O.S. available on the overall PC market of the right now's world.
Did you notice how not balanced at all this edition of Might & Magic Heroes is? Well...I did find it so...quite disturbingly surprising at best.
Plus, that there are only 6 types of possible units for each and, everyone of those factions. Even the upgradability of each core and elite units for each factions are not always possible.
Moreover, that in this edition of the heroes series, the Warlock faction is the most powerful and, is the most likely one to over-power all the others with its overpowered heroes and very high in HP Black Dragons.
It is no longer a wonder as to why Heroes III was developed to quickly remedy this rather awkward situation of faction balance.
