No, sorry. First, I think what everybody wants to have is an ordinary town just like the others, not just a creature dwelling with multiple guards.
Also, creatures in combat seem to be very restricted in moving around the combat screen, and that's no good.
And, what's the logic behind medusas coming out of a formerly inhabited sea town?!

An ocean town would fit perfect in H5.
I like that proposal.

my ideas
I read through this thread and I do like the idea of the sea-town, but all u guys are right when u say that it would be difficult to play cuz its restrictions in movement.
But first of all as for the ship-thing: IF a watertown would exist as a "full" town with heroes, etc, then plz NO SHIPS the dwellers of this town are creatures of the sea, perhaps the mere-men/women are heroes for that town - they can travel the sea witout boats, the just swim. This would be a nice special as they didnt have this 1-day-penalty for boarding/unboarding a ship
I like most creature ideas and I'm glad to sea crakens in the later comments, I missed them in the first post, u know those gigantic, 12meters-creatures that attack whales^^
And the building ideas some posts above mine are quite nice, too, I can imagine the town from the inside an a great ocean with a Shell-Castle or maybe a sand castle on the beach?^^ an all the island, malestomes etc very cool optically.
Allthough I do apreciate the idea of a full-working alignment water town, it is very difficult to integrate it into the game, so here my idea:
One could add a campaign to the game that plays on the sea, where u have to fight this town in the first missions, u travel by boat on a nearly complete water-map (opnly ur castle on a little island with some mines). U ship around and have to fight Oceans--town. In later msissions u could controll some of those towns an maybe have to conquer a great sea-castle or sth like that. That for the campaign idea
->
Then u could create special "water-town-maps" in the editor with much water and so on but then still there is the offfense-problem, this town has, cuz u cant attack the castles that are on land, it just doesnt fit, cuz "fish" cant walk All the water-troops would gather in the Water around the Castle-walls (forgotten english term^^) and then would be killed by the castles archers No, no good idea
This is a kinda difficult aspect for this town.
But, it comes to my mind^^, on page 2 or 3 (dunno) there was the idea to let them "walk" in swamp. Then they would at least have chance for offence. the could crawl through the swamp but with sharply decreased movingpoints, cuz they need to travel "wet and carefully" So my above mentioned "water-town"-maps would have to have swamp on them so the water-town could start an attack on opponents castles
This could be a way to make a full alignment with this
hope I didn't leave out sth vital
As for the end of my (indeed very big^^) post here are my ideas for troops:
1st: Crabs. Good creature with nice defense(shell) and respectable attack (their claws). propably H5's best 1st unit?
1st-Special: An army of crabs (i.e. no other creature) wouldn't have the penalty on land as crabs can walk very good Bonus at sea(like pirates in H4)
(upgrade, if there is sth like that in H5: Lobster. Better attack, better defense as Crab, two attacks, Bonus at sea.)
Of corse they walk sideways^^
1st-Building: beach (well, the coast^^ there are the crabs and can be buxed)
2nd: Seahorse. I know difficuls cuz they swim, but one could make a special Seahorse that can fly or sth. weak defense, "normal" attack
2nd-Special: Ranged attacker, shoots exlpoding bubbles at the opponnent, bubbles fly othe the battlefiield and my hit several enemy creatures. Bonus at sea
(upgrade: Seadragon better attack and defense, shoots
2 "beams" of Water that may hit 2 enemys, double dmg to fire-creatures. Bonus at sea)
2nd-Building: Coral-reef
3rd: Mer-men Meele attacker with balanced att/def
3rd-special: randomly displayed as man or woman on the battlefield (great special, huh?^^), morale boost +1 for the army. Bopnus at sea
(upgrade: Mer-fighter [or sth like that] increased def, no retaliation, Morale-boost +2 for the army, gender agin randomly Bonus at sea)
3rd-Building: Mermaid-rock (upgraded adds the shiluette of an underwatercity under the rock)
4th: Craken[or Klmar or how its called] Ranged attacker with balanced def/att
4th-spec: shoots a beam of ink wich has a 10% chance to bind the attacked creature for 2 rounds, when attacked 50% chance to block attack with an ink-cloud. Bonus at sea
(upgrade: giant-Craken better attack, can, instead of normal shooting, surround an enemy shooter with an ink-cloud an make it unable to attack, but not able to be attacked, too, for 2 rounds Bonus at sea) <-- this could be added to the first if there are no upgrades in H5
4th-Building: Deep Sea (darker party of the water more in the back of the castle screen)
5th: Seaviper good meele unit, fast. att/def-balance
5th-Special: venomous bite (30%chance of poisoning an enemy at attack)Bonus at sea two attacks(?)
(upgrade: Seamonster better attack, def, two attacks neutral to morale, chance to eat an enemy-same as mighty-moos deatstare)
5th-Building: Bermuda-Triangle (u all know this )
6th: Water elemental reat meele fighter, quite quick
6th-spec: random shape ("every battle a new shape" well later it repeats, but...^^) 40%chance to "rust" enemy armor, that is, lowering his defense to the half for the rest of the battle, double dmg to fire creatures, neutral to morale, bonus at sea
(upgrade: same as above, but now ranged - so u can choose if u want an additional ranged or meele troup)
6th-Building: mystic Water-Vortex
so far from me (:

this must be the best creature description that i have ever read or imagined (as far as i remember). a flying seahorse that fills the battlefield with shiny soap bubbles!

well, svarog, can you honestly say that this seahorse description was bad? i was also honest when i said that it was good.
and remember the new direction homm is going towards.
what do you think would happen if the homm5 tough guy wannabe swordsman (who's collar doesn't suit the roman helm he is wearing) was attacked by soap bubbles from tiny pink of light green flying seahorses?
that's right, no one knows what would happen

i don't think it would be that simple. i think that the swordsman could stand paralyzed forever, thinking of what to say; or he could go mad and start killing both friend and foe and himself at the end. or it could be something else. imho no one can tell for sure.

There are plenty of cool walking motions for a sea creature.
Crawling octopuses, seamonster moving like a seal,or like godzilla, tritons moving like the water elements.(Like Kaelo said in the first Page of topic)
Every town has terrains it doesn't fit to.
Like a infero on ice,a icy ordertown on lava,a nature town in wasteland,a swamp in the desert,a holy town on cursed ground.
A necropolis on holy ground.
And who cares about how ocean creatures breath?
And if you do care, there are sea creatures that can breath on land.so no difficulties.(when you don't make them intentional)
undeath don't breath.
I dislike undeath because they're so stupid, creatures that already died once, and still so strong.
How can death teissue have any power,LOL So stupid and childish
When there is even a little wind the whole army falls!
Why wouldn't they succeed in giving seacreatures a powerfull look?If they succeeded in giving those stupid undeath a good look

You have quite a bit of a point with the terrain/breath-thing^^
----
Well, undead are in almost every game/book, etc wich deals with fantasy. Fantasy without undead dosnt work. And besides, have you ever watched horror-movies? Do you think, Dracula is stupid and blown away by a bit of wind?

There are games with ocean creatures.
Age of Wonders,Age of mythology,Lords of magic,Realm II
And more that I don't know.
And there are a lot of very good books/stories of the ocean creatures.
I won't even notice if the undeath town would disappear in HV.
I hate horror movies because they are so silly.
And dracula will die from the daylight

well, the fantasy interpretation of mythological creatures is a bit soft for me. i like the mythological interpretation which seems to say that the undead are part of our mind that we deny. from that point of view the undead are quite powerful.
do the sea creatures travel on land without problems in the games you mentioned? i would restrict the sea creatures to sea only. if it's absolutely needed that they should crawl and slither on land, i would maybe consider making them have to end their turn in water. but that would seem so artificial, i think that the sea creatures would want to stay in water because they feel so uncomfortable out of water. if we wanted to have another town that can conquer land imho we could make it with land creatures instead of making the sea creatures loose their natural character.
what business should the sea creatures have on land?

this is quite interesting. I would like to learn more about this point of view - could u send me a link to a website or sth per IM?
@pixie: OK, so we seem to have differences at some topics Then let's forget this undead-thing since this is the ocea-town-thread
And if u read my post above, u might notice that I, too would apreciate it to have such a town - but it's difficult, all we can do is hope that ubi hears us
