All special heroes' classes and specialties in RoE, AB and SoD
First I must define what I call special hero. If a hero can't be bought in the tavern in RoE, has his/her own story, and is neither an Elementalist, nor a Planeswalker, I call it special hero.
I think that it will be the first complete list of these heroes, because I haven't seen such list so far even in this community. For example, I haven't seen infos about Ordwald yet. Let's start!
Name/Class/Specialty
Adrienne/Witch/Fire Magic= Starts with Expert Fire Magic
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Wisdom, Expert Fire Magic
STARTING SPELL: Inferno
Boragus/Barbarian/Ogres= Increases the Attack and Defense skills of any Ogre and Ogre Mage for each level attained after the 4th level
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Offense, Basic Tactics
STARTING SPELL: None
Catherine/Knight/Swordsmen= Increases the Attack and Defense skills of any Swordsmen and Crusaders for each level attained after the 4th level
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Leadership, Basic Offense NOTE: This fits to Catherine in RoE, but in AB, Catherine's first two secondary skills are Archery and Logistic. In the editor Catherine has Leadership and Offense.
STARTING SPELL: None
Dracon/Wizard/Enchanters= Can upgrade Monks and Zealots or Magi and Arch Magi to Enchanters
SECONDARY SKILL: Advanced Wisdom
STARTING SPELL: Haste
NOTE: In the campaign Dragon Slayer Dracon starts with Basic Pathfinding, Basic Wisdom and Basic Sorcery and he has not Spell book
Gelu/Ranger/Sharpshooters= Can upgrade Archers and Marksmen or Wood Elves and Grand Elves to Sharpshooters
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Leadership, Basic Archery
STARTING SPELL: None
Gen.Kendal/Knight/in RoE:Estates= Receives a +5% per level bonus to Estates skill
in AB:Speed= All creatures receive +2 Speed
SECONDARY SKILL: Advanced Leadership (hypotetical) NOTE: It is a bit difficult to define Gen.Kendal's starting secondary skills. In RoE, he is based upon Lord Haart, but Lord Haart has B.Leadership and B.Estates while Kendal's first two secondary skills are Leadership and Mysticism when we free him. In AB he is based upon Sir Mullich - I think because the living Lord Haart isn't enabled in AB - who has Advanced Leadership. The fact that Mysticism isn't a base property for Knights led me to the conclusion above.
STARTING SPELL: None
Kilgor/Barbarian/Behemoths= Behemoths and Ancient Behemoths receive +5 Att, +5 Def, and +10 Dmg
SECONDARY SKILL: Advanced Offense
STARTING SPELL: None
Lord Haart/Death Knight/Black Knights= Black Knights and Dread Knights receive +5 Att, +5 Def, and +10 Dmg
SECONDARY SKILL: Advanced Necromancy
STARTING SPELL: Slow
Mutare/Overlord/Dragons= All Dragons receive +5 Attack, +5 Defense
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Tactics, Basic Estates
STARTING SPELL: Magic Arrow
Ordwald/Druid/Slayer= Casts Slayer with increased effect based on hero level compared to the level of the target unit(the bonus is greater when used on weaker units)
SECONDARY SKILL: Advanced Logistic (hypotetical) NOTE: By his story Ordwald rejected the life of a warrior and turned to magic. When we meet him, he has no empty "secondary skill box", and all his skills are on expert level. Considering that every warlock has Wisdom in the first "secondary skill box", I thinks Ordwald was born to an Overlord. (The warrior life he rejected refers to this too.) But Overlords haven't Wisdom as starting secondary skill, so I think Ordwald's starting secondary skill is Advanced Logistic, and when he turned to magic he had talent for he traind himself for Wisdom.
STARTING SPELL: Slayer
Roland/Knight/Swordsmen= same as Catherine's
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Leadership, Basic Armorer
STARTING SPELL: None
Sir Mullich/Knight/Speed= All creatures receive +2 Speed
SECONDARY SKILL: Advanced Leadership
STARTING SPELL: None
Xeron/Demoniac/Devils= Devils and Arch Devils receive +4 Attack, +2 Defense, and +1 Speed
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Leadership, Basic Tactics
STARTING SPELL:None
Finneas/Necromancer/Animate Dead= Casts Animate Dead with increased effect, based on hero level compared to the level of the target unit(the bonus is greater when used on weaker units)
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Necromancy, Basic Mysticism
STARTING SPELL: Animate Dead
Gem/Sorceress/First Aid= Receives a +5% per level bonus to First Aid skill
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Wisdom, Basic First Aid
STARTING SPELL: Lightning Bolt
Slash/Knight/Archery= receives a +5% per level bonus to Archery skill
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Leadership, Basic Archery
STARTING SPELL: None
Vidomina/Wizard/Fortune= Casts Fortune with increased effect, based on hero level compared to the level of the target unit(the bonus is greater when used on weaker units)
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Wisdom, Basic Intelligence
STARTING SPELL: Fortune
Yog/Wizard/Chain Lightning (He cannot use his specialty)
SECONDARY SKILLS: Basic Tactics, Basic Offense
STARTING SPELL: Has no Spell Book
NOTE: We cannot meet Finneas (based upon Thant), and Slash (based upon Orrin) as level 1 heroes, but their secondary skills fit to Thant's / Orrin's starting secondary skills, so nothing refers to a different version.
Christian in AB (Foolhardy Waywardness) and Sandro in SoD (Rise of the necromancer) are the same as in original unless they have different face.
In the AB editor there is a hero called Mutare Drake. She has different face(dragon) and biography than Mutare, but her skills are the same.

but you don't say what exactly does each specialty like speed --> +2 speed to all units
Sharpshooters --> trains archers, marksmen, wood elves and grand elves to sharpshooters
[etc]

Plus, I believe some of the heroes with Creature specialty have it a bit different than the usual "Increases and Attack and Defense for each level beyond the xth level." For Example, Death Knight Lord Haart I think gives Black/Dread Knights more +5 Attack, + Defense, and +5 Damage. Flat out. Doesn't change with level.

Isnīt Gem a Druid?
And Mutare transforms into Mutare Drake after drinking Vial of Dragon Blood in the campaign Dragonīs Blood.

Yes, in original, Gem is a Druid. But SoD happens before RoE, and in the campaign New Beginning Gem has just arrived from Enroth. If you played Heroes2, you can remember, that Gem is a Sorceress in it. That's why in the campaign New Beginning she is a Sorceress yet. Later in SoD she is already a druid. The primary skills of the Sorceress Gem are the same as the Druid Gem.
Related to Mutare you are absolutly right. But during the game and after the transformation Mutare's biography doesn't change, while Mutare Drake from the editor has her own biography. That's why I thought, I had to mention it.

This is a great resource Thread!
I would like to see Muttley get a QP for creating this awesome & very helpful list, even though it is a few months old, it is still good stuff!
Muttley, I don't know if you're still around, but do you think you'd be able to update this list with the various Heroes' "Starting Skills"? Please!!!

Yes, I am here, and I can do that in few days. (I have to get the infos from my computer, because I have internet connection only at the university I study at.)
I think you mean the secondary skill they start with. I think I will give the starting spells too. There aren't many of them who has it.

That is even more than I asked for!!!
Muttley, if you add both the "Starting Secondary Skills" (i.e. Archery, Tactics, Wisdom, etc.) and the "Starting Spells" of each hero on your list, you will definitely have deserved a QP and Angelito will not be able to deny you one...in my opinion, of course.
I look forward to seeing this list completed!

It is done. I am glad to have someone, who are interested in this topic too. I have seen special heroes on many homepages, but those lists were always defective (they hadn't got Ordwald, Finneas, Slash, etc.), so I decided to make a complete list. Enjoy it!

Pretty soon there won't be anything left from Heroes 3 to gain QP's. (jest)
I ought to think of something soon.

Great work Muttley! This list is sweet.
I wonder if there is a list like this somewhere with all of the regular Heroes in it? Has anyone seen something like that around anywhere? Or...maybe you would like to expand your list, eh Muttley?!

lord_Woock is right, and there are many lists about the regular heroes. Everybody can make such a list using the editor, so I cannot see any challenge in typing these infos. Csarmi made quite a good list in the thread: heroes, starting spells, skills, etc.

Thanks for the link.
I don't have the Manual, so I can't look up the regular Heroes...so thank you very much for the link!
All of this great info might not help me win more often, because I suck at HoMM3, but at least I'll have a better idea of what I am doing while I'm getting my butt kicked!

A Caveat
You might wanna be careful with the PDF though, some of the info in the printed manual is wrong, so unless 3DO made some errata changes to the PDF with the patches, the PDF may have the incorrect information as well.
