How do the rewards of the dragon utopias work exactly?
Although i know there are some places where one can read about the rewards of the utopias, i have decided to make a thread about that today, coz i was asked the last days, why u donīt get 4 relics all the time when u defeat a full utopia.
First of all, i want to write down the dragon posibilities when fighting an utopia.
30% chance of facing 1 Black, 2 Gold, 5 Red, 8 Green
Reward: 1 treasure artie, 1 minor, 1 major, 1 relic, 20.000 gold
30% chance of facing 2 Black, 3 Gold, 6 Red, 8 Green
Reward: 1 minor, 1 major, 2 relics, 30.000 gold
30% chance of facing 3 Black, 4 Gold, 6 Red, 8 Green
Reward: 1 major, 3 relic, 40.000 gold
10% chance of facing 5 Black, 6 Gold, 7 Red, 8 Green
Reward: 4 relic, 50.000 gold
Now comes the misunderstood point i think...What is a relic? Some people think, a relic as an artifact which raises all your stats (like sword of judgement) or give you all spells of a specific magic school (like tome of air).
But that is not the whole truth, there do exist 23 relics in the game.
Here is a list of all of them:

03. Tome of Fire
04. Tome of Water

06. Red Orb
07. Black Orb
08. SeaCaptainīs Hat
09. Boots of Levitation
10. Angel Wings
11. Endless Sack of Gold

13. Sentinelīs Shield
14. Titanīs Curias
15. Thunder Helmet
16. Dragon Scale Armor
17. Crown of the Dragontooth
18. Sandals of the Saint
19. Celestial Necklace of Bliss
20. Lionīs Shield of Courage
21. Sword of Judgement
22. Helm of Heavenly Enlightment
23. Boots of Polarity
So when u face a full tope and get 4 relics as reward, it could be possible, u get the relics number 19, 20, 21, 22, which means +18 to all stats, or u could get the relics number 8, 9, 11, 23, which means ....crap..
On the other hand, donīt be disappointed when u enter a tope and there is only 1 Black dragon....u still could get the Helm of Heavenly Enlightment as reward.... (besides 2 eagle-eye arties and a vampires cowl....)
I hope i could avoid some missunderstandings

Treasure artifacts on average give lesser bonuses and are more common. Sometimes you can find them in treasure chests, which is the reason for their name.

Another difference between the different classes of artifacts is how big a force will be guarding it, if it is guarded. When I mean if it is guarded, I don't mean the wild monsters on the map, I mean when after you defeat those guys, you go to pick up an artifact, and it says:
"Through a clearing you observe an ancient artifact. Unfortunately, it is guarded by a *whatever*. Do you wish to fight the *whatever* for the artifact?"
For example, you might have to fight several Gnolls for the Talisman of Mana, but I can say first hand that sometimes you may have to take down a swarm of Gnolls for a relic.

Well, a long way of finding out whether an artifact is treasure/minor/major/relic would be to go into the Scenario Editor, and click the artifacts tab. If you hold your mouse over an artifact, it will display where it goes, what it does, and how rare it is, ie, treasure/minor/major/relic.

Dragon Utopia often gives combination artifacts instead of Relics. Sometimes you can get 4 of them.

...which is annoying and unbalancing most of the time. To avoid this, you have to edit the map into SoD-format, then no combo artifacts will appear.
There are some people out there, who don't know this, hopefully it will help them.

Yeah, you're right. That's so strange.
The only thing I can think of is that they didn't want those 2 to be popping up constantly. Maybe they figured it would be too easy to get both early, and that getting those 2 together early would be imbalanced. Either that, or to reduce the chance of getting one if you choose Artifact as your choice.
Actually, now that I think of it, can heroes get Minors if they choose Artifact? It's been so long since I've chosen Artifact, I can't remember if it's possible.

 Ambassadors Sash,  Diplomats Ring and  the Statesmans Medal are the three arts that reduce the cost of surrendering .
Unfortunately they are called diplo arts, although they dont have any other effect then reducing the cost of surrendering. They have no influence on joining creatures.
Each of the 3 arts reduce the cost by -10%, means u still have to pay 90% of the surrendering costs. They add up, so if uve all 3 arts u only have to pay 70% of the surrendering costs. Additional to this the diplomancy skill can give u cost reduction, which add up to the arts (-20% Basic; -40% Advanced; -60% Expert). Even though the arts work without Diplo.
The surrendering costs are already half of the prize uve to pay if u want to buy a new creature. Also uve to pay no resources.
It sounds more complicated as it is, so here is an example:
U want to surrender with 1 Archangel, Expert Diplo, all 3 arts:
Archangel cost 5000 plus 2 gems
Surrendering costs: 2500 no resources
-60% Expert Diplo
-10% Ambassadors Sash
-10% Statesmans Medal
-10% Diplomats Ring
= -90% in total
So uve to pay 10% of the Surrendering costs, which is: 250 gold.
Back to TOH Season I+II those facts were known by heart by the players cause hit n run was still allowed and it could be bad to run out of money while doin it .
If u wanted to do 4 hit n runs with 1 Archangels, u needed
20 000 gold with nothing
14 000 gold with expert diplo
13 000 gold with expert diplo +1art
12 000 gold with expert diplo + 2arts
11 000 gold with expert diplo + 3arts
If u wanted to do 1 hit n run with 5 Archangels, u needed
15 000 gold with nothing
7 500 gold with expert diplo
3 750 gold with expert diplo + 3arts.
Of u shouldnt forget to check shackles with a scout before beginning a nice hit n run.

I very rarely surrender, so don't have much experience. But it always seemed to me that surender cost was inconsistant. I thought maybe arts you are carrying was a factor for cost. Anyone know about this?

Of course u dont need to pay for the hero when u surrender, BUT u need 2500 gold to rebuy him in the tavern of course... otherwise u wont be able to continue the hit n run ... and if u r unlucky and ran out of money your main would be lost maybe.
