A new use for yellow stars
I was thinking of your yellow stars and came up with plenty of new ideas that might sound interesting.
First off, I hope I'm not stealing anybody else's ideas... if so, I take em back.
Yellow stars work on a post-count system. I find there is not much advantage to this. Here are some cool ideas:
1) yellow's could mean more than a post count. There meaning could change to something like... contribution count.
2) In this contribution count system, one could accumulate more stars by the number of replies and views a thread has and be given to the thread owner. That way, we could actually measure the contribution that the users make. replies could count as 1, and get bonuses for starting a thread, reaching 25 replies, double bonus for 50 replies, etc....
3) These contribution points could be added or removed by other users and by using a control system in wich a user does not delete all the yellows of another user, just because he dislikes him/her.
4) This system would help alot of the flamming that is going around in HC. I admit to being part of it and taking the damage. If alot of users remove contribution points, then the negative user might stop flamming others. This could really be an effective method in creating a good, positive environment in witch HC could grow via all the new comers. It could also be quite addictive like the red star system, that is only reserved for the mods. Let's try making it a more "public" place.
Well, that's all, and please feel free to add comments on this as I'd like to see what others think about bettering HC.

While I do appreciate the idea I think you're going for, I don't think that such a thing could really ever happen without some people abusing it.
I don't know of any way that it could be controlled really to keep the abuse from happening. Also, the way the Volcanic Wastelands works would likely really disrupt your concept as well.
I think personally that the yellow stars serve their purpose as is. The merely show post count, and the titles are something fun that goes along with number of posts you've made.
I don't look to the yellow stars to tell me too much about a member though, all they show you is how many posts the member has. If you want to see the contributions a member has made, look to their profile and read some of their threads/posts (especially those that have recieved a Quality Point)

hmmm... If there should be a system like that, I don't think it would be a good idea to let everyone give and take points...
That should be the mods job or something.
i think it would be abused if not...

Well at GG they have something like this. Everytime you post you get argentum which is used to buy special things in the forum like a highlighted name, or spend on the RPG feature. This is controlled by having a different rate on different forums. EG. At HC we would have the Lands being maybe 6 points whereas the wastelands being .5 or something.

besides that in gg all members (regardless of being mod or member of high council or just a regular member) can give/take away reputation points to/from other members. of course members can only do it with 1 rep points at a time, while mods can give/take away 100s of rep points. It's a real democracy there!

thanks for your inputs. I also think giving a little more control to the members would be a good thing; it would force some people to be nice and then get along. Now, they don't have anything to loose.
I think buying things is pretty sweet also. Maybe a gold system like on WW Pandora?

Let Me Simply Say:
Wizards & Warriors forum is awesome. It is everything that Heroes Community is not. The problem is that almost nobody goes there. If W&W had the kind of people that HC did then I would go there instead. But it's the people that matter most, so I stay here.

Bah.
I like the yello star system as it is now.
Why change something that's not broken?
Also, regarding the GG way: That's a pretty small forum, compared to HC, so the rep system works just fine. But here, with all the guys who register and make stupid posts, it wouldn't work. Those stupid guys would just have yet another way to try and ruin the forum, imo...

I do agree with Terje on this, those systems work very nicely on smaller close-knit communities where everyone knows each other and the trust is there. However, if you try to implement something like that on a forum of this size it will end up being abused something fierce.
Already we've seen that there are people who enjoy making many many accounts for no apparant reason, imagine the havoc these types would wreak if they actually found that they could use their self cloning power to mess with someone else's accout?
I will say tho, that I think it's great to see these ideas coming!

Speaking of self cloning: I don't doubt that it's people who'd make a second account, and give themselves positive credits... Which would really mess it up.

well then could we not add that power to 5 or 6 red stars level as an incentive?
Wow, I amazed myself with this idea!
