Can't get Heroes 3 Complete to work...
(sigh)
Dunno what the problem is. I loved Heroes 3 Restoriation so a few days back I went and bought heroes 3 complete. I uninstalled Restoration, Installs H3C just fine, then when I tried to play it... nothing. The disc would rev up like it was accessing, hard drive light would blink and then it would stop and my computer would just sit there.
The same thing would happen if I tried to access the Play disc using Windows Explorer, so I figure I got a bad disc. Well, I get an exchange from the place I bought and it and guess it? Well, almost the same thing happens.
I first tried to play the game and it loaded but it said I didn't have the Shadow of Death CD in the drive and would only let me play a multiplayer game. Tried it again, and then... nothing, computer pretty much locked up.
I can access some directories on the disc with explorer, but more often than not it just freezes. Not sure what's going on here...
I'm running on Windows Me and have DirectX 9.0 (when I installed one message I didn't need to install their the directX version on the CD).
I've tried shutting off extra programs but nothing really seems to work. I can't help but wonder if it's because my CD-ROM drive (which I just bought a few months back) has a DVD player freature as well as CD (although it runs my other games jsut fine.)
I've tried emailing 3D0 and accessing their website, but it seems like the company went out of business or something (their website it just some crappy blue page with error messages all over it.
Anyway, any tips you guys can give me i"d appreciate it.
Thanks

3do is bankrupt...no help from there..
I had similar problems as yours, and i recognized, it was because i tried to play the disc with my BURNER.
I couldnīt run the game...so i placed it in my normal dvd-drive and it worked.(donīt know why, but it worked..)
Perhaps u installed it with your burner-drive?
Only a suggestion.....uninstall the whole game via "software->uninstall" and install it with your normal cd-drive.

Damn... how'd that happen I wonder?

I don't know if that's what the problem is or not... my new CD-ROM is a CDRW but my computer only has space for one CD-ROM in the physical drive. So, pulling my new one out, putting my old one back just to play one game is too much of a hassle.
I don't know.. probably ending up just seeing if i can exchange the game for something else.
Maybe if I buy the extensions separately they'll work, although I still think the whole mess is just really ridiculous...
(sigh)
Anyway, thanks for the tip!

Only some directories? Explorer freezes when you try to access others? I'd say it was a bad disc but you already replaced it. Use a CD cleaner on it anyway.
Freezing in Explorer has got to mean either a hardware problem or an OS problem. Check for updated (DVD-ROM?) drivers and firmware upgrades. Do a Windows Update. Check for loose connections. Run a drive diagnostic if you have one.
It could be just a dirty lens. Get one of those drive cleaners. It's just a CD with a brush glued to it.
Good luck.

You said, you had had an old RoE-installation on your system?
Go through your registry and delete every entry linked to your former HoMM3 installation.
Then reinstall HoMM3-Complete.

Some updates...
Well, this is weird... tried cleaning the HoMM3 Complete disc and still no luck running the program. Weirdly enough I ran my CD Burner program and, just for kicks, I selected the "scan CD" option on that program, that scans CDs and tells you if that data is okay. Well, if it's right, then several blocks on the play disc are corrupt inlcuding the autorun.exe file. Ohhh boy.
Can't believe this, two corrupting play discs? Sigh...
To answer a previous, my CD-RW Burner is only a few months old.
I dunno, gonna try a few more things and if it doesn't work I may just exchange it for a different game entirely. Course, now i just have to find the original play and install disc (I had to do some reorganizing for some company that was coming this weekend and I'm not sure where i placed them... fun, fun.)
Anyway, thanks for the tips everyone.
