Homm II online multiplayer problems
We can not play Homm II by TCP/IP connection, multiplayer. We turned off all our hardware and software based firewalls, enabled DMZ, forwarded all the ports of our routers, but dramatically nothing changed.
Homm II usually notices that someone is connected, but before the game setup screen appears, it gives errors, especially "error sending data" error.
We use Windows XP Pro, and run Homm II in Win 95 compatibility mode.
This is from Homm II README.TXT, Troubleshooting section:
"Network: IPX is the preferred protocol in Win 95 to Win 95 network games. NetBIOS should be used in DOS to DOS and DOS to Win 95 network games."
I wonder is there out there someone who still loves and plays Homm II, and knows how to solve this annoying problem.
The prize is an ancient artifact.
Any suggestions?

ElvenBard, maybe your IP shows incorrectly, go to www.whatismyip.com to check yor real IP. Good luck!

In most cases the problem is a firewall. Software or hardware based.
Moreover, Homm 2 may sometimes crash during the game, especially in battle screens. Changing the compability settings of the main executable file as "run in Win95/98 Mode" may help, hopefully.
Always keep in memory that you need a lot of luck and persistence to play Homm 2 online.

Anyone likes to play Homm2 online please send me a message!
I guess Heroes 2 uses the port of TCP/UDP 2000 in network games. If usual methods fail we also may try using Hamachi.

I dont know if it works for HII, but for HIII press "Tab" then write your message and hit "Enter". If in allied game same thing, press "Tab" then write your message and instead of "Enter" press F1/F2/F3.../F8, where F1 is for red player, F2 for blue player ...F8 for last colour player (whisper chat - other players dont see it).
Hope it works..

Once you figure out the online gaming stuff, I have put up around 400 maps that won't need registration to a group site. You can get them Here
