HC Members Talk About Your Kids
Why don't more Heroes Community parents post more stories about their kids? I want to hear about any stories, mishaps, strange occurrences, accidents, lessons learned, filthy messes, etc, etc. And please post updates for any special events such as catholic confirmation, jewish barmitzfuhs, wild birthdays, first step, first word, etc, etc. And don't forget that this is an international community. You might discover that some of your inherent traditional local customs of childcare may be very different than those of someone not living in your country. It may seem unremarkable to you(since it may have been common for generations) but very peculiar to a complete foreign stranger. You never know unless you post it!
I know some of the parents already. We have Romana, Hexa, Peacemaker, Khayman, Conan, myself, SaphireRavyn, Pandora, KittenAngel, Gangrail, Laelth, and Angelito. If anyone else is a parent that wishes to post anything about their children then please feel free to do so here in this thread. I want to hear about everything(except the contents of certain anomolous diapers). And then there are some members who don't have children but still spend quality time with child relatives. I think PrivateHudson is one of those(a nephew or niece yes?).
I WANT TO HEAR EVERYONE'S STORIES!

Do Mods Grant Wishes?
I was hoping that the 'Other Side' mods could please move the latest pics of babies from the 'RL Photo' thread to this one. I would certainly enjoy the baby pics! AND....They would certainly make a wonderful addition to the contents of this thread!

The other day I was changing Rhona's diaper and she tried to shoot me with the yellow poop. Luckily she missed me , but hit the curtains and a chair.
No worries ..I got it clean again
She was smiling after she did it though
She loves to lay in bed with me and Michael and gets this real satisfied look when she falls asleep. But as soon as we put her in her own bed she opens her eyes wide open and starts protesting. As soon as she spots us she stops crying and starts waving her little arms in frustration as if she were saying: Pick me up!!
..which ofcourse we do.
Funny thing is when she's crying you get real frustrated but as soon as she's quiet asleep you want to pick her up again and wake her up to cuddle.
We're really lucky she doesn't cry much and only comes once a night to eat and be changed.
I'm enjoying every single second with her and Michael.

Paranoid Sickness
My philosophy is:
Kids will get sick. Bacteria and viruses exist in the air we breath. The best you can do as parent is to do your best job to keep the child warm, and well fed. A small multi-vitamin helps provide a good source of cold-fighting nutrients; Vit-C, Vit-B, zinc, etc. If you are a parent then you know how frightening it can be to dwell on the kinds of diseases that your child might contract from other children. I think it's best not to worry too much about it. When your child is sick and you take him/her to see a doctor and you see many other people there coughing and looking ill then you really don't have much of a choice. There's no sense in losing your mind over protecting your baby. Living in a bubble is not reasonable. Simply do your best to provide for your child and that's all you can do.
The reason I post this is because I have a neighbor who is obsessed with germs. This man refuses to shake my hand and says, "That's what people used to do but not anymore. There are too many diseases to catch by touching someone. Now we only nod our head and smile". He has two children: 8 and 11. He is so afraid of catching germs that he refuses to let his children spend the night at other peoples' houses. It is very strange and I think he is paranoid. This is not me. When I meet someone I usually go for the handshake and I look them in the eyes. I think this is good to show honesty and trustworthiness.
I also have a second baby that I care for. He is of Phillipino/Chinese ancestry. His father/mother have relatives from those parts of the world and sometimes visit them. I wory about exotic illnesses like chicken flu in China and Indonesia. But then I reason with myself why I should not give too much thought to this concern. I do my best to keep the kids out of cold weather and other conditions to keep them from getting sick but that is all I can do. After doing my best then I must rely on modern medicine for the rest. And maybe a prayer to God for especially hard times . But the point is there's no point in taking it to the extreme like my neighbor. Life was not meant to be lived in fear of what might happen. Sometimes things happen that are inevitable. All we can do is live our lives until those things happen. Then we should do our best to deal with it with courage and personal strength. When we do, then other people whom rely on us for strength will do better as well. And then the courageous hope becomes more contagious than the diseases we fear so much.

Right now I'm not really worrying about the future.
I'll deal with problems once they occur.
A month later I've found that the best thing I can do when Rhona is upset is keep calm and when she has cramps I move her legs as if she was riding a bicycle. I've also distinguished her different cries.
I predict she's going to be a tough little cookie

Hi Consis,
i can understand your concerns about your kids health. But to keep them away from everything and pumping them with additional medicine and vitamins will just make them ill.
Lets say he gets a caugh or similar: Just let his body get his own protection and defense (if it nothin serious like a real fluenca). His body will get to know the viruses and can protect himself the next time. If he gets medicine instead his body wont built the own protection, furthermore sometimes the medicine destroys this and his body gets even more vulnerable for the next time. AND please forget about the articifial vitamines that US parents seem to give their kids nowadays ..the body wont assemble additional vitamines this way ..plus overpowering it can lead to serious skin reactions. Looks like "Vitamin Industry", same as "free Children Medicine Industry" already placed this kind of thinking in US parents heads: If there is a problem with the kid, give him "medicine", if u think hes too active give him "medicine", if hes bigger then others give him "medicine" ..etc etc etc. Thats bullchit (<--adapted from the thread rating "chitchat", so i hope the "hero in order"-Mod dont get p***ed). Nthn else. And of course money making. Psychologist are already speakin about a desease called "Münchhausen Syndrom" relating to this parents behavior.

As for the latest post by Xarfax, I agree 100%. There is too much push going on to medicate your children, they have meds for every little things now - and I don't believe it's healthy.
Children need to be exposed to viruses in order to build up their own immunities. I think that we do more damage than good when it comes to medicine. Giving kids vitamins in certain situations is okay, but for the most part I think its more important to feed them right and teach them healthy eating habits that will last them through their entire lives.
The drug companies are making so much money off of us, and they continue to do that by creating nonsense panic over things that our own bodies should be naturally able to fight.
The only time I will normally get medicine for my kids is for high fever, with low grade fever I usually avoid medicine and instead try to manage with bathing and keeping the kids hydrated. Too many perents rush off to get antibiotics, and what happens then is if there is ever a serious situation where antibiotic is needed - it won't work, because your body will become immune to the antibiotic.

...well i just wanted to note that i got an immediate -QP warning almost out of nothing. A "please dont say BS here" wouldve been suitable in any case already. The very next warning was "u get silenced" plus "u can leave if u want". That all just for saying BS without attacking ANYONE personally (<--thats what i think is the CoC for).
So i was really wondering if it was just me or everyone here gets treated (or threatened) like that in this Community. Both cases would be unbearable.
And this stands before the background that this thread is already rated as "chitchat". Additional to this the mods already made similar expressions in previous posts like "it sucks" "dump" "stupid" etc. Sometimes its too obvious that there are double standards when it comes to specific persons.
Two old members i really respect told me that it isnt so, that it wasnt because of me, and so i might be exagerating in this case. Still some mods should think about which "weapons" they use. Again, to IM me to delete BS wouldve been enough. To give immediate warnings, -QPs, silencing and ask to leave is more a behaviour of a powermod. Those things look similar to the withhunt already done to Sir Stiven (although he might did deserved it).
I just wanted to point that out.
Lets go back on topic again if u wish.

Thats exactly what i wanted to say. Darn my english is poor.
Just a little correction: The body doesnt get immune to antibiotics...the viruses get immun to antibiotics... the antibiotics weakens the childrens natural immunities ...so the viruses are now immun to antibiotics and the is no resistance from the child himself.

"Immune" was the wrong word, the body doesn't become immune to antibiotics, but after prolonged use they lose effectiveness. So if a child uses them often for things like simple colds etc when they are young, when they are older the antibiotics will not work as well to combat infection. Pediatricians here caution against the use of antibiotics in early childhood, because if there is a case later in life where antibiotics may be neccessary overuse in childhood may eliminate that as possible treatment.
Its the same with things like painkillers, after you take them for a long period of time - you will gradually start to need more drug to have the same effect.

Xarfax111,
Quote: Darn my english is poor.
In my opinion your use of the english language is not poor. I have you quoted on my personal page; telling one of my favorite Heroes Community stories. Your english is not poor. It is well enough. Please try to understand that your english is better than many Americans. You don't realize that you are trying to learn a foreign language and have obviously worked hard to write it successfully. You have done well; better than many of my own fellow citizens.
Here in my country many children are turning to something called "text-talk". It is very very bad english when they use it for everything they do. I hate text-talk. It is a horrible way to write.

People With Sons:
*~(copy/paste job)~*
And you also find out interesting things when you have sons, like ...
1.) A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft.
house 4 inches deep.
2.) If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with
roller blades, they can ignite.
3.) A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a
crowded restaurant.
4.) If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not
strong enough to rotate a 42 pound Boy wearing Batman underwear and
a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint
can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room.
5.) You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on
When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a
few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a
long way.
6.) The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a
baseball hit by a ceiling fan.
7.) When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh", it's
already too late.
8.) Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.
9) A six-year old Boy can start a fire with a flint rock even
though a 36-year old Man says they can only do it in the movies.
10.) Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-
year old Boy.
11.) Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same
sentence.
12.) Super glue is forever.
13.) No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you
still can't walk on water.
14.) Pool filters do not like Jell-O.
15.) VCR's do not eject "PB & J" sandwiches even though TV
commercials show they do.
16.) Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.
17.) Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.
18.) You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.
19.) Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys
do not like ovens
20.) The fire department in Austin , TX has a 5-minute response
time.
21.) The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make
earthworms dizzy.
22.) It will, however, make cats dizzy.
23.) Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.
24.) 80% of Women will pass this on to almost all of their
friends, with or without kids.
25.) 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid.

Hey a kid thread, woo hoo!!!!!! Ok a few stories and not long-winded ones I hope. My son is 7 and he has CP so there are a lot of doctor’s appointments. He wore braces on his legs and when he was about three I had to take him to Children’s Hospital for a check up. He was not able to run and was just learning how to get around with his braces. The team of educated doctors stood around him in the hall and asked him, “Austin would you run down this hallway for us so we can see how your legs work?” My son folded his arms and glared back stating the obvious to him, “ I can’t run that’s why I’m here!” I thought that my tears would never stop flowing from laughter. That’s right doctor man so much for common sense, something they don’t teach you in school.
The other one was with him as well; he brought home his report card and on the back it stated that he was getting a check instead of a plus because he did not PAY ATTENTION. So my son comes home and pulls his report card to only inform me that he should not get into trouble for this check mark because I did not PAY ATTENTION. He thought they were speaking in money terms and I had not forked out the cash so he got a bad mark. It took me all day to explain what they were talking about but I thought he would never get it.
