God, I've havnt been on in a while. I can tell this by the fact that when I looked at my profile, it said I was 13. I'm almost 15 now. God, time flys by, don't you agree?

I loved H3.
When H4 first came out I hated the interface but then I got used to it and now I play only H4. But that's me...

i started at H3 so i took a particular liking to it but H4 iss just as good

HoMM3. Why? Better interface, a lot more creatures, more town types, more realistic graphics, simpler battlefield, the list goes on forever.
HoMM2 had the best music, though. HoMM4 had its good moments, but I was disappointed.
P.S.: How many polls like this have been created?

Another better feature in H3 was the battles. It was extremely exciting when you had to defend a town with an inferior army but you somehow manage to destroy enemy's balista and then just wait for your tower shooters to finish off the opponent. I also miss the tactics and the chess like feel of the battles.
Also in H3 (and this is my opinion) the computer players seemed to be much "smarter". They were not wrecklessly engaging into combat with stronger neutral forces and seemed to attack your town more vigorously.

In order homm 3 is my favourite, homm 2 is next, homm 1 is a classic and very basic but thats why I like it, and last of all I hate homm 4.

I prefer HoMM3 because it's more interesting doing scenario (even more doing a compaign)! Once you've created a strong hero in HoMM4 you're almost the winner (against computer players!).
In addition there are fewer creatures than in HoMM3!
We cannot avoid to mention good qualities of HoMM4:
fog of war!
real time in retaliation of troops: now 1000 peasants can make damage against black dragons!.

oh hells na
EVeryone who voted for heroes 3 could've have played heroes 2. I started on heroes 2 and it was my favorite game i've ever played and I think it still is. Even the 2D graphics are kick ass and the gameplay is awesome, the good ole days of 3do still being in business..

Heroes 3 was my first game and so there is probably a certain sense of nostalgia there. But I love its graphics, sound, town screens, Heroes, campaigns, scenarios and portraits. And WOG + the RMG have given it limitless replayability for me aswell so its my No. 1 Heroes game.
I have HOMM1 and 4. HOMM1 is too dated now and just inferior in all respects to its successors but still a lot of fun. Everytime I play HOMM4 it pains me to think how much better the game could have been with a little extra time. And Equilibris despite its valiant efforts have still failed to improve it much for me.
HOMM2 unfortunately I still havn't played but I've heard its music and seen its graphics which are quite nice.

Not to mention:
- No more chaining!
- More realistic magic skills, although the might skills could have been more numerous...
- The best campaign story in a Heroes game ever (Gauldoth Half Dead, for those who don't know)
And some more stuff, which I conveniently forgot...

In my opinion
*H3 is the best HoMM.
*H3's graphics are well designed and detailed, but H2's graphics were more inviting.
*I've grown particularly attached to playing H2 because of the Broken Alliance map, which I was unable to beat for nearly a year before I got the retail version of the game back in (~1996).
*H3 has good campaigns, but are sometimes too hard (SoD). The pros are that you can play as both Good and Evil (RoE) without particularly switching sides forever. *H2 campaigns offered a good challenge, but were not overly difficult. In the long run, I appreciate the linear format over H3's short campaigns. That way, the campaign "feel" doesn't have to die right after the 3rd map.
*H2 random maps were a bit terrible. I remember a hotseat game where I was stranded inside a wall of trees without a lumbermill. I still need to see the H3 random maps to compare, though.
*Creatures like Phoenix, Titans, and Dragons looked killer in H2.

For me definetely Heroes 2,If in Heroes 2 would be some more spells it would be excellent.The music is great,it looks so good,its fantastic feeling to play it,and is all so clear visible on the map,when I see a pile wood I know that Im seeing good.In Heroes 3 I was fist little confused from what I see but later it was allright.

Heroes 1 shouldnt be counted,it is the first and only original,the classic.
