typical week one on a random - all random:
Buy some heroes, scout as much as possible.
Fight with monsters that would not give me heavy losses, to get resources/exp/arties.
Make a plan for a BO, depending on my estimates of res on map and my army strength.
Find the monsters blocking the road and if i can take them out asap.
Choose one or 2 heroes for main and try to fight with them as much as possible

Question for ya guys,
I'm a non-online player (spare me your comments please, know em) and was wondering if it's a disaster or not to just have 1 hero, maybe 1 extra for troop transport, but that's about it.
Now you may comment

Yes, big disaster!! I am still very new to online gaming, but in my short experience (along with lots of good tips posted here by veteran players) I have found that to be successful, speed is very important!!
If you are having a house built, do you think 1 person would take on all tasks and build the house alone? or do you think the 1 person in charge would have a crew of several people to do different tasks? Why spend 8 days with 1 hero doing 8 different tasks when you can spend 1 day doing all of those tasks with 8 different heroes

I don't agree entirely with Lkuu...
When I was but an AI player, I was playing on queen or sometimes King... and honestly, you're not going to waste money on alot of scouts... you just can't afford to buy that many heroes and on top of that, your terrain blocks (stacks of units to break through) are fairly big making in tough to go anywhere.

I agree Jebus, a few heroes are sometimes (in big maps) necessary.
Not so much for scouting, troop transport is where I use em for.
And against AI, several heroes with troops only make u weaker, and costs alot too..
1 main hero, seems to me, is the best tactic.
And like i said, this is in most maps, not all.

nope.
The lesser heroes u have, the lesser are your chances to win against an experienced human player, coz he will clear his area faster and will visit you before your main hero has reached level 10..

Maybe.
But even if he ( with the several heroes) does, 1 main hero is still stronger then the several heroes he has. He must have spread his troops over his heroes, cause he's mass area clearing right?
Can't i vanquish his heroes one by one, cause all my troops are in 1 hero?
Whilst area clearing ofcourse, and constant troop transport from my second hero.

No, your main wonīt be stronger, thatīs the clue about it!
Look:
You only fight with 1 hero, so when u have 2 fights a day, it will be much. You gain a bit of experience and free a bit of ressources.
Fighting a crypt for example wonīt give u that much experience, but it gives u gold (and an artie perhaps), so it could be done by other heroes than your main. And most of the time, you havenīt chosen your main from day 1, so u fight with more heroes, and the one who gets log/earth first will be your main then.
Coz of all the fights do with about 5 or 6 heroes (the others for transport, chaining), i will have much more ressources and money than u will have with your 1 fighting hero. So i can build high level dwellings end of week 1 / start of week 2 and buy all these highlevel troops and make stronger fights than u can do, coz u donīt have a great army to fight. Coz of these big fights i do (for pand. boxes for example), i gain much more and much faster experience than u do. So my stats will grow very fast, my skills will level up to expert (earth, log, tact, arm, off......) and i will be able to kill lots of level 6 / 7 units in week 3 / 4, while u still collect ressources and do crypt / cache fights with your main (these fights are done now by some of my scout heroes, which have some shooters and level 4 / 5 units on, so i get more gold and ressources while my main is fighting for big arties and utopias...).
So u see, when we both will meet, your hero will have NO decent stats NOR decent army to compare with mine....game over....

I'll be completely convinced when i played online i guess.
Altough you do have a point, i think my way is effective also, ofcourse when it's a big map i get 2 heroes as well for looting etc.
When i get HoMM original ill contact u (after some other fights online) for a match.

My most used strategy:
1st week- small map: get recruits as soon as possible
large map: get money and resources 1st
I remember that in HoMM1 I explored the whole map and only aftr that returned to the town to get the available recruits, but it didn't worked with the other HoMMs

Your strategy will only work against the comp...against a human player, u wonīt have a chance......try it and be surprised...
