Big Debate: Capitol or Creatures
So the big debate is “Capitol or Creatures”.
Now I’ve done some research into this and here what I got
Using the castle town (angel, cavs) and the basic setup of a fort, guardhouse, tavern and village hall I did the testing
Key
Cost is based on the total cost of the buildings built and the creatures recruited at the end of the day 2, week 2
Extras are things built to get to target
Comment is my comments
Problems are the problems when using this tactic
Capitol
Cost: 31020 gold, 25 wood, 25 ore
Extras: marketplace, mage guild, blacksmith, citadel, castle, 4000 gold/day
Comments: the cost looks much but only on those king and queen games and while building u are gaining more gold per day do its not that bad. The wood and ore aren’t that hard to get but are if u are playing a maps with out those mines at the start. If u look at the extras then u will see a mage guild which is a requirement for some dwellings, so that’s covered, and it is also a must if playing a magic hero (lyonis). Also a blacksmith has to be built which is required for the barracks that is a requirement for those higher dwellings. Market place is said not to be used and to be gained in the second castle, well to those u will see the answer later. The big castle is there which every person goes for always and the big +4000 gold/day.
If u go for this tactic u will never really run out of money and there is nothing to do in week 2 but to build dwellings.
Problems: some say that when playing this way u will lose to the decent opponent who shows up when ur getting your dwellings. A risk I’m willing to take. Also go for the gold on chests but the experience (only main hero) when there is 1500 but only till level 6 or so.
Now read on to compare
Creatures
Cost: 35670 gold, 55 wood, 15 ore
Extras: Archer’s tower +upgraded, barracks, blacksmith, stable, training grounds, citadel, castle, +500 gold/day
Comments: this looks even more expensive. Now that money is going to be a problem mainly because of the creature costs. That wood is going to be a major problem so that must really be found first and if its not then hello market. Lets look at the extras and we will see that we have marksmen, swordsmen, and cavs. Not a bad army early but it eats up a lot of money, about 15000 with the castle. The castle is a must again but u may have a wood problem about here or a wood problem when building the stables and training grounds. And again we have the blacksmith.
When finished building dwellings u can’t go and build a capitol because of the cast and the low 500g/d, even 1000g/d is tough
Problems: wood shortage, major shortage. Wood is the main resource for the castle and running out early aint very good. Reading over other threads says that to play this way u must go for the gold always and clear out neutrals ASAP as well as mines. But I don’t like the 500 gold/day
Just to clarify: ok I realise that on a S or M map capitol is a bad choice but on L or Xl is a decent choice and if u make it through those tough times u become very strong.
Choice 2 is better for smaller games.
Now u decide, which is better
Final comments: for me on an Xl game I will always go for capitol, L I will go for some creatures then capitol and on medium, small games creatures are the best way.
Is this enough to prove to u all that the capitol is not useless but a decent way to play?
And that creatures can backfire with a bad move?
p.s. if this thread is popular and other castles are asked to be done I may do them.

Thanks for the work u did here, but u won´t win 1 out of 20 games with that tactic playing online. For sure....
Random L size maps are finished week 4 (latest!), XL week 5-6. When i will come into your area in week 3 on a L size map, u probably have a capitol built and have 20.000 gold, but a small army and your hero is perhaps level 8 -10. My main hero will probably be level 16-20, have a full upgraded week 3 army (from level 1-7!) and will have at least 6 skills on expert. So when we meet on the battlefield, your only chance will be to throw me to death with your gold pieces...
And when u ask now, where the hell did u get all the money to buy all my troops, then i give you an easy answer: I fought some fights every day. I fought perhaps 3-6 crypts, some imp caches, stores and nagabanks, then perhaps 1 or 2 conservatories. With all these fights (Which you won´t do, coz u don´t have an army!) i gathered some exp.points which gave me some skills to expert level (earth, tactis, offense, armorer.....). With these skills, i can fight a much bigger army and much bigger rewards (relics, pan boxes), which raise my experience, my skills or my money. When u will have a bigger army to fight those big fights, ......it will be too late, coz i´m already near your town and will eat you for breakfast...
Think about that, try to get in the zone and play some games....u will be surprised....very surprised....and after a half of a year, u will laugh about your own posts..

i dunno if read this already but is said in another thread that zone games go for too long and i dont have that much time.

Because the online players will not take these tactics seriously. What Angelito said is 100% accurate

i know where you read that and i also know that the guy who wrote it meant something else by that.By long games he meant phisical time, how much time do i have to spend for a game on the zone.First there's finding a game, then chatting(endless) in the lobby, then the long turns.In a 2 vs 2 game i recently had we reached day 6 after about 3 hours of play.Go figure..

thanku tigris, the zone games are just too long and most guys are after a toh match. im in toh but i havent played a game and these guys are looking for footmen or higher, not me

finding a game can be a problem yes i admit it, but there are always people who would help( Angelito)
There are still people out there who would play for fun.
Lkru is going to open a WW dedicated thread.I'm sure that if you join WW you'll be able to setup some games here in HC.i mostly played HC members myself:Conan.Leo,Pulsar,Angelito.As time passes you'll know more people on the zone and then you'll get some games easier.then the next step is to join a tourney and that's where you will get even more games.
it's just a matter of time.

okay so i played an online game at the zone. it took an hour to setup the game and about an hour 1/2 to play the game.
the game time wasnt bad but that waitin time is dreadful. this is what i was talking about. now i have some proof.

The wait is a totally different aspect. Remeber you are playing a 7 year old game, you arent an established player (makes a massive difference) and you were probably at zone at a dead time (which i think you were ). All these factors contribute, in different ways to the ability to get a game...most of all the established player factor.

I always go capitol unless it's a small map.
Usually, if the computer or anyone attacks, I just purchase 2-3 heroes and make them defend. It helps having a castle at this stage, as their armies won't be too big.
At this rate, I can get champions, dread knights, unicorns very quick, and when the computer is defending, even with a castle, my 12 champions will easily roast him.
Really depends on resources also, if you need resources, than by all means, get creatures if you must to gather the nearby resource mines. Wood and Ore is almost all you need.

Some maps or templates will not be as rich.
Sometimes you need to try to balance your gold & the creatures you buiuld so you can afford it.
I said it yrs ago & i will say it again.
Plan ahead,if you cant plan ahead then you most likely wont win the game.
You know what you can or cant build by week 1 so you need to plan what you want to build in week 1 make it a goal to reach it.

thanks rychenroller for the time frame
ive decided to start trying to go for creatures a bit more than i would normally. its working pretty good.
ive played a few games as rampart and those grand elves and pegasus are really handy realy but i think it will take a bit more time before i convert to the creatures side.

nah u have to go for a few creatures at the start which i have learned to clear those bigger stacks which leads into other areas full of treasure so u can become wealthier.
