Terrain Richness
On random maps, is there a difference in richness depending on what terrain you have in your starting zone? If so, how would you rank the terrain types. Please give some detail.
In my experience on the zone with random maps, most people like to play L or XL size maps with no under. In this case, if you were to play Dungeon, your initial zone would be dirt terrain (which gives Dungeon a disadvantage from the start). Besides the fact that the crypts will be tougher, is the area any less rich than Grass? I saw in another thread where Lava terrain is considered poor in comparison to Grass terrain.

well grass is richest..
atleast thats what everyone except nevermindspy says, and according to him his correct so. You never know it seems.. even though i tested it because of this silly arguement with results you can see in another thread.
But except for grass i dont know if there is any set order... someone can please make further testings on this.

I´m not really sure about the unbalanced richness, coz every terrain has some specific things other templates won´t have at all or very rarely.
Example: Crypts
You can find them on all terrain but on lava. But that leads to a second conclusion. Like all stuff on the map, crypts have a specific value, which is needed for the random template settings. When there is a value of for example "7" for the range 1000 - 2000, then all terrains will be filled with possible stuff that fits in that range with the amount of "7". Crypts have a value between 1250 and 2500 (approximately).
Unguarded gold or other resource piles fit as well, but also Level 1 and Level 2 dwellings. I´m pretty sure, there is no other terrain which will have more level 1 and 2 dwellings than lava has (ecxept stronghold sometimes).
Same goes for leprechauns....
In snow terrains, u find loans, ...where else?
In rough, u find wagons and dead corpse (both are good to find artefacts or resources)...where else?
All these mentioned things fit into the value 300-2000. So when stronghold area has much wagons or corpses, u won´t find much dwells or waterwheels like u do on grass.
Sure it is up to every player himself what has more value for his gameplay. About 60-80 imps and perhaps 20 gogs more per week, or 2/3 crypts.

Quote: id say starting underground is always a disadvantage, cause the road system there most often sucks.
Yes, underground is a nasty place, and it's hard explore it, and hard to travel long distances (so many of the corridors are blocked by rocks); but at least there's usually a road between the staircase and the nearest town or telegate, and I often find large areas of unguarded stuff (but more often everything is guarded).
Grass just looks nicer. It's relaxing to the eyes to have all that green on the screen.
Quote:
gras, rough (stronghold), lava (on top), snow, dirt, underground would be my ranking
You left out swamp. I'd guess that it's about as rich in total as grass.

About cons i dont think it is right that on grass there is more of them
I played a game 2 days ago and i think we both were on dirt and each had 1 cone and there were another area i think grass without cons at all and 4th area was desert i think and there were 2 cons so i think cons could be anywere

lol sir stiven :)
i wasn't wrong,well at least partially
as angelito said lava has bigger chance for dwelling ,rough for wagons\corpse and grass has crypts so in a large area like jebus you get richer first zone
(who the hell needs more money on jebus)
but as i said before all my opinions are related to true random which has a small first zone there for you have less stuff in it therefor diffrence in zone richness is close to zero and like i tested was equal.
about this question,if you may think zone is any consideration in picking your town ,its not!
so go ahead and play any town they all good and pretty balanced(except necro and conflux ofcourse).
