Hmmm. Maybe he inhereted something from Owen? Or maybe he just didn't like Anakin? Or maybe something happened later? ...
So many questions, so few answers. Damn, I hate things that aren't consistent...

lets hope its just rumors...
there have been rumors for episodes 7-9 ever since before TPM ...luckily it seems lucas decided not to make any more movies and start with series... that said, there are other rumors stating spielberg got the rights for episodes 7-9 from lucas ...i wonder if thats good or bad

Yeah I heard about the episodes 7-9 as well but through a bigger SW fan than myself have also heard that he wasn't going down that path quite yet.
It looks like the TV series is a go so it'll be interesting to see how that turns out... (luckily it can only get better)
If another director came in, it'd probably wouldn't be such a bad thing!

IMNSHO Star wars is not star wars with out the phenominal mind of lucas. I think that it would be a complete disaster if lucas didn't do 7-9 even if there is a 7-9.

In the past I would have agreed... but my experience with episodes 1-3 changes my opinion dramatically.

Fun thing about the dialogue of the first trilogy: All the classic comments - like Han's "I know" in reply to Leia's "I love you!" - were made up and added by the actors...

Yeah. It's almost as if they say it a little too often. But that's understandable, everything taken under consideration...

I didn't like the latest showing too much, and frankly I'd be very glad if episodes 7-9 never saw the light of day. Apart from anything there's already a well established "extended universe" series of books that deal with the period after ROTJ, so any movies would either repeat these storylines, contradict the books entirely or need to be set well after the books.

Hmmm...
Depends on which ones you read, some were truly awful, but some others were excellent. Timothy Zahn wrote the excellent "Thrawn" trilogy set 10 years after Endor and that's IMO just about the best of the bunch.

Which only goes to prove what I was saying. There's pretty much no time period that Lucas (or whoever) could pick for about probably 20 years after Endor which hasn't been covered in one of the books. That'd either mean continuity problems or setting it after the books. Alternatively he could I guess set one in periods between books, but you'd have to wonder that if the events depicted were that important (they'd fill 4+ hours of film after all) they'd be certainly mentioned in the books that occur after such events.

I never read any of the books and only played "Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire" on Nintendo 64 (which takes place immediately after ROTJ), but I think that it would be possible to make 3 more movies.
Based on the storylines of the current 6 movies, I would foresee any future Episodes mainly dealing with Luke or Leia's kid(s). In the recent Vanity Fair interview, George Lucas said that Episodes 1-6 were generally a tale of a father & his son, and how everything eventually comes full-circle.
I don't know if any of the current novels address the possibility of Luke or Leia having children that eventually become Jedi, but if Lucas were to ever be in charge of making any more Star Wars movies, I would most likely see him developing his stories around this.
As PH says, some books cover the period up to 20 years after ROTJ. So, if more Skywalker children were involved, this would work out perfectly as it would give the kids time to grow up...OR...it would allow for the possibility of a small conflict developing into another major set of events (a la Phantom Menace's invasion of Naboo leading to the Empire).
I must admit, though, that it would be weak to see Lucas (or anyone else for that matter) regurgitating the same storyline as was done through Episodes 1-3. It would be weak, but fun as hell...not to mention profitable for all of those involved!

Han and Leia's kids (3 IIRC, two being twins) feature heavily in the books, for example they are targets for Imperial kidnappers during the Thrawn series of books. Either that or she is when she's pregnant during that series, I forget which. In some of the last ones which I haven't read I believe they go into a lot more detail about the lives of these children. I'm guessing therefore that since their lives seem to be extensively covered, any story set then would either contradict the books or have to regurgitate them.
I'd also add that I was misleading slightly by saying 20 years as I was forgetting that the books I've read so far only take it about that far. I knew there were some New Jedi Order books set after but thought there was only a few. It seems there's well over a dozen, all involving the Organa-Solo kids in some way, so their lives are most likely covered in detail to a certain point.
BTW, R A Salvatore, author of the Drizzt novels penned one of the New Jedi Order books Vector Prime. Without giving the game away too much, pleanty of SW fans were annoyed because he did what no author yet dare do, he kills off a major character. Strangely to my knowledge he's not been asked to pen another
