Coolest/ Hotest/ Cutest video game Charachters
heres my list (btw im not obsessed with video game charachers, i already have a real life crush  )
Female - Quistis, Final Fantasy VIII (theres something about a girl with a whip that i cant resist )
Male - Riku, Kingdom Hearts (i dont know i just like his name  )
Female NonHuman - Shiva, Various Final Fantasy's (dont ask me why, i dont know either, maybe its the clothes she wears...or doesnt wear)
Male NonHuman - Mog, Final Fantasy VI (he's so cool, i wish i were more like him )

Good topic, Niceguy! 
Here is my list, based on your original categories. (By the way, I'm not obsessed with video game characters either, I already have a real life wife! )
Female - Lara Croft (Hot body, British accent, long Ponytail to grab onto when I...well...you know , can kick my butt with any part of her body, can handle guns like Michael Jackson "allegedly" handles 10-year-old boys' private parts , oh...and this Tomb Raider character is RICH!!!  )
Male - Mitsurugi (Lives with honour, fearless, and he yells some crazy Japanese sayings whenever you whoop an opponent in Soul Calibre I or II)
NonHuman Female - Cortana (I would use my "hard disk" to "download" my "information" into this foxy computer vixen, from Halo 1 & 2, any time! )
NonHuman Male - Widowmaker (He was the yellow robot from Xbox's Unreal Championship and the mofo could jump to places that no one ever even thought of looking until they saw the laser-streak from my sniper rifle!  )

Human Female - Ivy from Soul Caliber II. Real evil laugh, leather outfit and a whip-sword. Real dominatrix - style Plus I mastered her moves and can clean out any opposition.
Human Male - Ryu from Streetfighter II. Come ON. This guy just kicks ass, and has done so for years. And if you disagree I might just dragon-punch your sorry butt into yesterday!
Non-Human Female - A toguhie.....probably Lady Vashj from Warcraft 3, because Nagas are so cool, and shoulda beena playable race.
Non-Human Male - Goro from Mortal Kombat, the first BIG BOSS that was BIG! Four armed, ground stomping fury. Probably my favorite boss monster ever in a game.

Female... Ivy from SC2. lol Asmo pretty much summed it up
Male... Iori Yagami from King of Fighters. The pinnacle of character design. He is badass, powerful and a great storyline associated with him.

Cute, er, Hot
There is a female character named Katrina from Quest For Glory 4: "Shadows Of Darkess" by Sierra Online who really stands out. She adapts two distinct forms: first a peasant girl, and second her truer more darker self. She speaks with a very seductive Russian/Slavic accent; her voice was provided by actress Jennifer Hale. A five star performance, if you ask me.
Here we have sweet and innocent peasant girl Katrina.
She becomes a friend of the main character, so she dresses accordingly.
Unfortunately, there is a dark side to Katrina in reality...
You can tell she looks like a mean one when peeved.
Here is Katrina inflicting pain (pain...or not?) on the good guy. Lucky him.

hey, i forgot to mention my most disliked charachters...
Male Human : Tidus FFX, he's okay as a character but his voice is just so... whiny
Female Human : Shelinda FFX, same as above, and i dont like here clothes
Male Non-Human : Seymour FFX, he's not just evil like sephiroth, he's annoying too (and seph was just evil)
Female Non-Human : i cant think of one

mr_niceguy, you have really a mr_nicetaste for choosing characters, just look at my custom status and you'll understand why  . Listing favorite characters is really hard, but lets make an effort:
Male Human: Sephiroth (really really cool!! When I was searching for my HC avatar I was looking for a nice Sephiroth image, but couldnt find one, so I just upload one of Edgar Rony Figaro from FF VI(a.k.a FF III).
Female Human: Aeris. Anyone who have played FF VII know my reasons. And the ones who havent, you dont know what you are missing.
Male Non-Human: Really hard here. I could list some: Frog(Chrono Trigger), Red XIII(FF VII), Zero(Megaman X series), Zeratul(StarCraft)...
Female Non-Human: Sara Kerrigan (StarCraft)
Some others I would like to list too:

Baurus (Oblivion) he's just cool. He died in my game though 
Riddick (Chronicles of Riddick) kicks *** and Abbot (Chronicles of Riddick, voiced by Xzibit) just the line "Rule number one: No contraband. Don't ask me what contraband is, because I change it every day."
Seargent Johnson (Halo 2) pretending to be the covenant, mocking the name of the Prophet of Regret "Dear Humanity; We regret being alien bastards, we regret coming to Earth, and we most definately regret the Corps just blew up our raggidy-assed fleet!"
The guy in Baldurs Gate 2 who has the same face as IYY's avatar (Baldur's Gate 2) I just thought his nanchalant manner and his dry humour was a breath of fresh air from the normal "WE WILL KICK THE DRAGONS AND SAVE THE WORLD AHA!" of the nice characters
Librarian (Dawn of War) "There is no such thing as innocence. Only degrees of guilt." and the Psyker (Dawn of War) "I ALREADY KNOW WHAT YOU WANT.", "YOU REQUESTED A PSYKER, MY LORD."
Sub Zero (Mortal Kombat) He'll freeze you, impale you on his massive sword then decapitate you and rip out your spine from your body before your heart has time to stop. What's not to like.
Ryu Ninja Gaiden He's a ninja who can not only jump from 300m and land safely and carry sledgehammers in his oh so stylish black ninja suit, but can also kick the living **** into zombies, dragons, tanks, helicopters, mutants, aliens, soldiers, samurais, giant worms, dinosaurs, skeletons, skeleton dinosaurs, pirates and tax attorneys with the blink of an eye. What a life to lead

Chaos Sorceror (Dawn of War) "I understand more than you could POSSIBLY know.." Awesome voice acting in this game.
343 Guilty Spark (Halo) I don't know why no one likes him. He's a legend
Mehrunes Dagon (Oblivion) I felt sorry for him. They kicked him out of tamriel and when he wanted to come back home Martin kills him. He was probably just looking for his sword anyway (which I stole)
Blastoise (Pokemon) Somehow he manages to kill the best of them with nothing but water from his own body. I think that's admirable.
