Germany :O
Just got home from my first travel to Germany (as a driver that is)
So what, who cares about my trips anyhow . Well, actually I'm just going to talk shiat bout Germany and the germans behaviour
Roads in Germany: It's in general easy to build roads in Germany, except for the mountain areas. When driving at day the roads seems ok, 4,6 and 8 lanes very common. BUT, whats wrong with the German signs? who did put them there? was it Mike Tyson? They make no meaning. Placed on the wrong side of the road, switching names, some places the road name is present, other times not. I know there are several ways of putting up signs but the German way is not different, its just plain wrong
Next problem about the roads: Traffic lights. There is no traffic ligts, not even on the largest highways
Another problem: German drivers at night - the lights, all Germans drives with close lights only. This is also WRONG What would they do if a deer jumped out in the road? So, since I know the CORRECT way of using my lights, the Germans gets pissed at me I drive with full lights against the other silly German dudes and they do the same at me, just to remind me to blend my lights hell no
German restaurants: closed 22.30. If your hungry at 22:31 your in trouble your best hope would be a gas station
German hotels: It's natural that the hotels is open 24 hours a day, but nooooo. Not in Germany closed 22.00 - 23:00, This forced several nights in the car instead of a warm hotel bed
Also, Germans hate english. So if your planning to travel to Germany, I advise you to learn German first It seems like them foos just dont want to talk english (they might know how to though)
My conclusion will be: Germany is indeed not a tourist country, because of the German attitude to tourists, but I dont really care. I had one week at the Rhine and enjoyed all those castles and fortress'. Germany have a lot to offer Just dont count on service
Kind regards
LL

Lmaoooo...
I donīt know in what else countries you have been before, but why the heck u need traffic lights on highways??? There are no crossings...only 1 direction....what should traffic lights do there?
Also i donīt know which hotels u visited, but at least 75% of all hotels in a city have 24 hours service.....
Restaurants close about 11pm to midnight, thatīs true. But how many people go into a restaurant past midnight?
But bars and similar locations are open until 3am or 4am, and u can eat there aswell..
And about the lights....donīt u think itīs a bit dangerous to turn on full (far light) light?...The driver who comes towards you will be fully dazzled by your lights and wonīt see what happens right in front of them.....thatīs why.....and we donīt have that much deers on highways like in norway..
And you can find the street names on a sign on every crossing, and on every single house at the bottom of the number.....and names could only change after a crossing...not in the middle of the road.
I guess u got too much of the german beer, which befogged your senses...
Come again when u r sober....

hehe, well, I have been to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Austria, and have mostly drove at day so I havent noticed. Actually, no traffic lights really is a problem when it's rainiing (we had only snow weather ) you cant see anything when driving 130 km/h +
Also i donīt know which hotels u visited, but at least 75% of all hotels in a city have 24 hours service.....
I were in Boppard, Königswinter and Koblenz + another semi large town I cant remember the name on, cos no hotel were open, so we left same night IMO, a place that is not open 24 hours a day is more like a guesthouse
Restaurants close about 11pm to midnight, thatīs true. But how many people go into a restaurant past midnight?
I work part time at a restaurant myself, and we dont close until 1 AM, at least in the summer months
But bars and similar locations are open until 3am or 4am, and u can eat there aswell..
bars is not open all night actually, not in Boppard at least hehe, closed 23.30, I went in and they asked me rude to leave
And about the lights....donīt u think itīs a bit dangerous to turn on full (far light) light?...The driver who comes towards you will be fully dazzled by your lights and wonīt see what happens right in front of them.....thatīs why.....and we donīt have that much deers on highways like in norway..
hehe, not correct, I met a trailer on the highway, 4 lanes I had full lights, of course, cos I had a left curve. So, that fool of a German driver put allø his lights on and its alot of lights, but I still had no problems at all. It's just that you germans aint used to looking at the road instead of meeting cars
And you can find the street names on a sign on every crossing, and on every single house at the bottom of the number.....and names could only change after a crossing...not in the middle of the road.
hehe, if you drive in Norway sometime, you will easily see a huge difference in sign "quality" but anyhow, the danes is actually even worse than Germans on that part, they have white and red signs, and they are all placed down in the grass
I guess u got too much of the german beer, which befogged your senses...
Oh, that german beer, great taste (except that silly BITburger beer, tastes like crap )
Alcohol is insanely cheap in Germany though hehe, I bought 96 boxes of Carlsberg and 4 bottles of vodka, all to the price of 24 boxes of beer and 1 bottle vodka in Norway
oh, and another thing, why does the trailers try to pass eachother on 4 lanes highways?

I don't know about you, but I hate it when people drive with their brights on, there made to be used only when no-one can see you, when someone gets within like half a km, you turn them off.
I would probably slam my breaks if you were behind me blinding me in my mirrors with your brights on, I would say there was a deer and you would get the blame on the accident.
It sounds like a nice place to driver Germany, compared to our crappy road system in Canada (except alberta and especially saskatchewan). (we got way to much infrastructure for such a low population )

One time we were driving in belgium and there were 2 signs ; one above the other
one saying : <--- Brussels 100 km
and the other saying: ---> Brussels 50 km
confused
Another time we were going home from a day in Antverp and we got to a roundabout and the first exit said Antverp..the second exit said Antverp..and the third one..you guessed it..ANTVERP. The road we were coming from was also Antverp...

Believe me, it's a lot easier to communicate using english in Germany than, say, France.

Yes Germany is not really a tourist country...this business is maybe 5% or less. Big problem is the unfriendly service.
Im still convinced uve met a majority of friendly people here in Germany. Next time u better visit "world-open" cities like Hamburg, Berlin, Munich or my loved and very friendly Cologne (Köln).

Actually I havent seen this reply earlier. I did visit Cologne and it were very tourist friendly. The Kølnerdomen really put a nice impression on me
oh, and an answere to that farlights thing mentioned above, I'll teach you foos when driving behind, Far lights should be tunred off at approximately 300 meters. you can see when the lighst reach the car in front. Blending is really only a problem in regular 2 lanes roads

I have being on the German contry in Thürningen. I didn't expect any kind of service, but I geted more than I expected (espesialy on the plane). And all Germans is so pleasant and courteous, so you don't need to wory about meeting evil Germans!
Anyway, I thing a good advice is to NEVER talk about something who is about Fascism or WWII. My German teacher (who is frome Berlin) got totaly hysterical when I and my friend Finneas (Not Willmar ) where talking about our History homework who was about Barbarossa. I am convinced that she had shreded us over fire if it was legal, but insteard (thanks to the Swedish law) we only get banned frome all German lessons in a half of a year (Hated it, I like German lessons). Fortunately, she where fired after three weeks (for hitting a pupil, thanks again to the Swedish law) and replaced whit a better teacher.

I've heard many stories about Germany. Most of them come down to: Germans are very good hosts and GENERALLY are friendly. But there are some things like sensitivity to certain topics along with their PUNCTUALITY and ORDERLY MANNER that REALLY scare many people. To illustrate this - I've only been in Germany once. Me & my mom were at the airport in Frankfurt. We were in a hurry to get from one plane to the other and we accidentally cut in front of 2 German ladies. And that is where all the hell broke loose. We heard a long speech (English - for us mixed with German - to commend on things to each other and to the other Germans) about "Russish shwines" (this was the only phrase in German that I understood) who cutting in front of the line and commit other horrible crimes of similar magnitude.
