Resurrection vs. Necromancy
Hey, I had a thought: What happens if you have both Resurrection and Necromancy at Grandmaster status? Would you revive creatures then create undead? Would you create undead then revive creatures? Would it be simultaneous? Would they (unlikely) cancel each other out? Does Ressurection revive the undead?
It just seems like if you had both these skills that your troops would never die and you would keep getting new troops, especially if you are from the Necropolis!!!

No he means ressurection. Ressurection is a skill now in the life school which brings back dead troops after the battle. It's not a spell, though there could be some spell in the life school that has a similar effect.

: )
Every school of magic has a pre or post battle effect:
Life:Ressurection: Revive some dead troops after a battle you won.
Death:Necromancy: Bring back troops you killed in battle as undead.
Order:Charm: Charm some of your opponents troops to fight for you before a battle.
Nature:Summon: Summon some extra troops before a battle to fight for you.
Chaos:Sorcery: Spells do extra damage (Chaos doesn't have a battle effect, so their spells do more damage)
Each of these is a secondary skill under the appropriate Magic type.
So: If you have grandmaster ressurection and necromancy how does it work? Are you invincible, sense your troop return from the dead, and you turn the ones that weren't into skeletons? Or is this impossible?

Life and Death are opposite alignments. I am not sure that heroes could learn skills(or spells) from both of them...

Remember, since the Academy (Order) is allied with Life and Death, it may be possible, in theory. However, it would be a weird set of circumstances indeed. I think we'd be talking one of those Level godawful heroes here. And you'd have to be offered the right skills very early in that hero's development so you could build them up in a reasonable amount of time. ( I figure that hero would probably be around level 30-40 plus, if they developed nothing but Life and Death magic skills)
So, if it may be possible in theory to have Grandmaster level in Necromancy and Resurrection, then Lord Paul's question is a valid one, and is now making my head hurt. Maybe when the game is finally released someone could do an edit job and try it?
Or maybe they did something sensible, and won't allow it?

Hopefully his stuff will be made clear when the game atually hits shelves. Unitl then, we can't really know the answers to this stuff; we don't even know if the situations in question could come up.

Hey Coldfyrius!
I really like your portait, and the game is a lot of fun too. I just defeated an Empire Castle with my Undead today. It was really hard and I didn't cheat in any way. I just cast every beneficial spell from scrolls etc. and used every potion I had and gave it a try. I had to attack the Castle twice in the same turn 'cos it kicked me out once.

I was able to take out one of the castles in disciples also. But it cheated or something (can't remember) and won't actually let you defeat it. I think I took out the mountain clan one.

The ArchMage will have both necromancy and resurrection. If your academy wizard wants to become an archmage it must master three magic schools life, order, death. So if both skills are based upon amount of hit points to be returned it is possible after losing 100 hps you could resurrect 50 and raise 50 in skelletons.

Wow...
That's a scary thougth, and ArchMage having both Charm, Necromancy, and Resurrection. He would steal your troops, turn the troops he killed into undead, and then raise his own troops back to the living. *shudder*
Of course, I think Oldtimer is right, there is probably an HP limit on all these skills. Or maybe it is percentage like Heroes 3? Hmmmm. Charm with a percentage would be far too strong...
Hey, what is the name of a Hero with all 5 magic skills (it is possible). Would it be Sorcerer? or Gandalf?

Since each hero can have 5 primary skills it seems possible that a five magic hero could exist(unless you are unable to learn the two enemy schools). That would be an awesome hero(as long as you keep him alive). I'm thinking of a name like supremagi or overmagi but I think I'll just call him Sir.

Just as a note....
It is possible to get all 5 magic schools. 3do said you can get magic of schools that are the opposite of yours, but it wouldn't be easy. I think they listed Magic Academies (not the town) as a possible way. All I know is, that guy would kick booty!
I can't wait now to see if I can make a LOTR map with Heroes 4!
