Poker Club
I decided that rather than having a thread so specific as my Pet Peeves thread, we should talk poker, cause it's da bomb! I'd like to see some good chat here. Find out who plays. It would also be fun to start up a play money tourney just for fun.

ohhh, i play as much as i can. i like texas hold'em but since its only good when u play with money, i dont play much. i also play 5 card poker. thats about all
if there is any fake money tourneys count me in. i would love to play with ppl i know

I really like poker, i play every time i get the chance, if anyone asks me to play poker (or any card game infact) i pretty much always accept, but i dont like to play online for extremely paranoid reasons.
I really like 5 card poker and i kinda like texas hold'em.
But when i play a card game one of my favourite things to do i really dramatise it, like its a real battle. I do alot of stuff like sceam out "DAMN YOU FIEND, OUR NEXT MATCH SHALL BE YOUR PERIL!!!" or "MWAHAHAHA, I HAVE ONCE AGAIN GAINED VICTORY!!!", and sometimes i do the thing in movies where the person points to the guy he/she is talking to. people keep telling me to calm down, telling me its just a game (and i know that) but going totally psyco over a card game is so fun!!!

I play - Hold'em, no limit usually, sometimes limit tho, 7 card stud (hi-lo) Omaha (hi-lo)
I like playing tournies with friends where we all just pay say 5-10 bucks entry, and then start with equal chips, winner take all. Its friendly that way. I also play a lot online, never for play money though - i just dont see the point anymore

I know the basic concept behind hi-low games, but I've never been told how the pot is split up etc...

the pot is 50/50 between hi hand and lo hand. If there is no low hand it goes 100% to the high.
so if a pot is 10 bucks, 5 is the pot for hi, and 5 for low.
if two people split low, they are paid 2.50 each, while the high pot is still 5 bucks
This part is generally where a lot of people make mistakes betting a low hand, in omaha for example A2 is the best starting hand for low. so if any three low cards come up on board a2 is the nut low. Because its such a good hand its commonly played - if there are several people in the hand calling bets you're wise to assume that they also have low. What happens is you get morons betting/raising their low hand which serves only to boost the high players pot because the low is going to be split.

to have a low hand 3 cards 8 or less must show on the table.
so if a flop is A-3-10-7-J - then we have a low hand possible.
The nut low hand would be 2-4
If the flop is A-J-10-7-A
There is no low hand, as there are only 2 cards for low.
When you play omaha, you are dealt 4 cards - but may only use two of the cards in hand towards your playing hand - and then three off the table

And you are able to chose 2 different cards out of your hand for each low and for high, if your hand fits both.
Means, if u have A,2,8,9 in hand and 3,5,7,10,J in flop, u have A,2,3,5,7 for low and 7,8,9,10,J for high  ....so if you´re lucky, u win both pots...the low and the high...

I´m playing very often on pokerstars.com
Mostly Omaha Hi/lo..sometimes Texas Hold´em as well...
You can ask in the zone how many chips i gave to all of the guys there so they are able to play big tourneys as well (more than 2 millions though). Won several tourneys there (seems i am as lucky in poker as i am in heroes games as well....)
But i know it´s much easier to play with chips than with real money...the big pressure is missing.
But i think the fun would be missing (for me...) when playing real money (at least if there are high bets though)...and fun is what i like most in every kind of game i play...

Eww, I hate pokerstars! Bad play there Everyone goes all-in so often with crap, its just a joke... I play at Pokerroom.com - tourney's are better there I think

I can confirm that Pokerroom.com is much harder than other places. At FullTiltPoker you have unlimited buy-in for play money, but at pokerroom it's only twice a day. This pretty much filters out the snowty players who constantly add money to the pot on the small tables. When I play at pokerroom.com, I go there for their single table tourneys. Even though it's play money, I think it's something that is just as good as playing for real money, because you don't want to lose your chips. In ring game play money, people don't mind losing the stack cause they can just buy back in.
But in single table tourney, you want to hold on to your stack. It also keeps a good mindset on playing smart, not on emotions. When playing for real money, sometimes I can be over-conservative.
Anyways... I wanted to start discussing some hands.
This one was quite memorable to me. I was playing Hold'em back at college. The table had about 9 people. For most of the night, I thought almost everyone was playing pretty tight, since few people were in hands. But also aggressive as well, because bets were fairly sizable.
I was near the beginning of the table and I had A 10. So I called fearing a big raise from AQ, JJ, or other bigger hands. To my surprise there were no raises and everyone called.
The flop was 10 2 2. It was checks all around and so I bet two dollars. (minimum bet 50 cents)
Everyone folded and carried on about how they knew what I had. At the time, I was notorious for over-betting when I caught a set. I bought the pot and made 4 dollars. Then I turned over my 10 and mucked the other card and at first the place erupted and said that someone could have easily had a 2 with that many people on the table especially the big blind.
I said that I they were right and that I was lucky. However the better players at the table smiled at me and shook their head as if they thought I had a boat. What I liked about this, is that I got a reaction from every person at the table, some of them being different. But now I knew exactly what every person at the table would think I might have the next time I made a large bet.

Oh I just thought of something very interesting to think about. In reading a book by Terry Goodkind, the theme of that novel was this.
"People are stupid. They will believe anything that they want or fear to be true."
I think this applies directly to poker. And this is why the game is so much fun.
