Multiple Usernames
There have been too many cases of members creating multiple accounts.
Its at the point now where I am really questioning what the motivation is behind it. Is it a means to simply pollute HC?
There is no need for more than one username here. All you are doing is clogging the database, for no purpose whatsoever.
To quote the FAQ

It seems to me that many people assume that we don't notice, but we do notice. If it appears to you that we don't care, well we do care.
Floodprotect is there for a reason, people who are making two accounts so that they can switch back and forth to spam more are only harming the community.
There has been so much talk lately about Thread Quality, and how HC needs a pick up - lets focus our energy on that, not on all these negative habits that seems to be getting worse by the day.
If the reason that you want a new account is because you are a spammer that wants to change your ways, or you feel like people have judged you and dislike you - so you want a fresh start: Please come and talk to one of the moderators, we will try to help you. Do not just go spawning account after account and repeating the same mistakes.
Some people seem to make these accounts to reflect different sides of themselves, but I urge you not to do this. What makes us interesting as people is that we have all of these different sides. Not one of us is complete showing just one element of our personality, and its when you put them all together that we are who we are.
If all of us were to just be who we are, we'd be well on our way to improving the community, and making it something real again.

I would also say that I do care quite a lot about the quality of threads here. Part of what makes HC so great is the fact that it's a community. With all of these aliases, it becomes impossible to determine who is who. I have made several friends from talking over MSN or even on HC IM, but it all started here at HC just posting.
The quality posts happen after everyone gets to know each other and can make fun of each other. That's what made Tossers Tavern so great. Everyone knew everyone else and the funny posts just came so natural.

Exactly!
Now it seems almost everyday when I come on here I have an IM from someone asking me to to check if {usernameA} is actually {usernameB}
I don't like feeling so distrustful, it is no fun reading a "Hi I'm new here thread", and having my first reaction be "now who's made a new name?"
I really think that this is a big part of why so many people are always writing about how they miss the good ol' days... we shouldnt have to wonder who we're actually talking to when we post.

No I'm not, there are different circumstances that I feel are okay.
I don't think that any new names should be made without speaking to a moderator though.
With regards to TUM, there is a guy who has spent hours of his own time just to entertain HC with a fun persona - that's hardly detrimental.
In the same respect sometimes in Glade a new name may be needed, and in that case one of the Glade mods should be contacted.
If there is ever a reason, and we (mods & admin) know in advance, it is different than just spawning name after name for kicks.

Im totally for the no multi accounts thing...
we should know who were dealing with and sort through any issues we have... (is there a way to block second accounts?? by IP or something?)
as far as the spam thing... I also agree and that's what I like about the VW! we can have fun and talk just to hear our...er.... read our own words!! If a member doesn't like me(or i don't like a member), he'll naturally stay away but if he does post something unpleasant, at least I know where it comes from!

(Gee Im sure that was a tough one to figure out!) 
I should have specified earlier however that i have no problems with a member making a new account to start fresh. (I think it would be helpful that we (the community) know about it however so we can actually appreciate the effort a specific member is trying to make.
As an example, Lord PC's change has been a positive one ( I think ) and my knowing who he was in the past has had to negetive effect on my interactions with him since the new account.
What I do find annoying is a post like "I'm returning but I won't tell you who I was!". Just sounds like someone is looking for attention to me.
I've got no problems with second chances... if I feel that that person has the best intentions to heart.

Whoa, I think we need to tone down on the spammy posts in here, guys. You know how the mods feel about this. Why don't we all carry on our extraneous getting-to-know-you's in VW where there's plenty of room?

This is a double account belonging to terje_the_mad_wizard. It was made for a joke, but the joke was dull, and it's not seen much use. No one will grieve for it if it was to be deleted or something...
EDIT: We would just like to add that Terje is awfully sorry to have wasted Val's valuable server space with this rubbish...

There was nothing harmful about the way you used the account Terje, and it was funny
The ones that are harmful are those that are created to spam the forums, the people who cannot spam fast enough with one name - so they create more for no real reason.

Some members do make new names for the purpose of starting over when they've had issues with other people. I personally think it's better to try to resolve your issues as who you are, rather than create a new name - but will still respect another person's desire to remain anonymous.
I will say however, in cases where a member had particular issues with someone else, and then create a new name - I will let the other person involved in the dispute know if the member who switched names starts using the new name to resume the conflict. Is that confusing? lol I'll try to explain better with ana example.
Poster A harassed Poster B frequently. Poster B decided he would not talk to Poster A anymore, and asked for moderator assistance in getting poster A to leave him/her alone. Poster A creates a new name (poster C) and immediately begins trying to get in close to Poster B.
In those cases, I will always tell Poster B who Poster C actually is.
Otherwise I won't tell when the person has spoken to modsquad about starting over

Well it makes sense to me, so I'm content I guess the bottom line is that teh only way I'll tell on someone using a new username, is if I see them to be doing it in a way that's hurtful to another member. Does that clarify?
As for Yoda, I never told you that you had to delete the account, it's still there lol
All I said was that I thought it was uneccessary, thats all. Just an opinion. There are a ton of things I find unneccessary, but they don't all just go away either
