Magis or Gold golens?
Well, the thing is:when i should use magi and when should i optate for gold golens. As i never played against real player, only versus computer,is really hard to tell what should be the best choice, cause players,i guess, shoud often focus fire onthe magis and heroes playing against order ( or not?).So,against computer i guess magis go pretty fine agaisnt might, life and nature, and golden golens against chaos, death and order cause of magic resist.Thats all for now dudes, thanks for the help .

when i play order i always choose magi.
this s because u can separate them into several groups of 1 and use spells like curse. then u have just one group with many magi and u use them to cast magic fist or raise undead.
i also choose them because order is a ranged town. the only creature that isnt ranged is dwarves and they defend ur other groups when the enemy comes close
so for me its magi

Mages or gold golems
hmm...Golems are good, they have magic resistance and a lot of life. But they are SLOW.Mages can cast a variety of spells, if you have many the spell damage gets stronger. But their liffe is low.So what? they can be protected, and they are spellcasters, not ranged creatures! What else? Golems ok, so if you're a spellccaster or a warrior, average one, say level 5 or six, Golems are better.
Winners:{my opinion}Mages.

That may be so, but personally, I've found that the Magi are best for clearing mines and such in the early game...

hmm IMO Gold Golem are good for defending your town and Magi are good for the adventuring heroes.

Personally I'd choose Magi because of their spellcasting ability- i prefer hoarding them and casting poison on lvl1 creature stacks and then forgetting about them
Generally I use magi and genies due to their spellcasting abilities, as i prefer strategy as opposed to strength.

I kind of agree with csarmi, but here is my idea on this. I have only played against the computer while using the Order town, however if I have more than one Order town, I build a Magi dwelling in one town, and a Gold Golem dwelling in another town.
Also, consider this; say you have an Order town and nearby you have a Magi or Gold Golem dwelling that is within one to two days of movement of your town; whichever one is outside your town build the other one in your town, then you can have both in your army in the early game if you choose to.

I strongly disagree dvader. it's a bad ideea to have both types in your army if you have a choice to have only one. the minor tactical advantage you get destroys a very good tactic for Order: the famous one-genie-stack that slows/cowards/sings of peace. they cast spells, protect the hero AND take retal for just 500 gp.
a much better idea is to stick to one type of creature, master its abilities and increase their numbers as much as you can, taking full advantage of 1-2 single genie stacks on the army's empty slots.
to be on topic.. I usually prefer magi. they are better for clearing the map and that's very important for the final showdown. because usually the lvl 3-4 creatures and heroes win the map not the lower lvl creatures.
against chaos I'll get golems though, to protect my heroes.

Well, I never said you HAVE to have both in your army, but it sometimes can't hurt. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And, where I said to have the one dwelling in your town if you have the other one outside of your town was an indirect quote from the H4 strategy guide, so blame the guy that wrote that if you disagree with that particular strategy.

man, I know that you have a right to an opinion.
however you should support your theories with more arguments than "it sometimes can't hurt". or "blame the guy who wrote the strategy guide".

The Magis spells are not a serious great bonus, and a glance on the statistics is enough to tell that the Golems beats the Magi in everything. And not to mention that the Golems is mechanichal and have 75% magic resistance. The best choice is the Golems,no doubt!

Gold Golems. I always choose Genies so I need some strong unit to protect them (I tend to leave halflings and dwarves at home). Mages are useful (especially Poison during sieges) but very vulnerable.

Hmmm... do you teleport Gold Golems? Why to risk to lose any of them - I prefer to teleport illusions of e.g. Titans created by Genies

never think of that...
good suggestion stachnie
i prefer gold golems, magi are godd in offense BUT they have a little amount of hit points plus low defence.
In addition to that(or as a result to that) the most of the times are the first that the enemy's shooters hit.
Their power hides in numbers so if you loose 5-10 mages in every simple combat with neutrals you won't be able to collect many of them in any time.
I vote for golems.
AND at the end if some of yours are destroyed you can collect the gold form which they were made of...

I prefer the Golems. Especially early-game, the magi are too easily decimated by anything ranged, and a skilled player will kill them pretty fast before they become a nuisance. Whereas the Golem can protect your Genies, and, if you take them along, your Halflings.
Mages real power only shows in big numbers in siege battle really.
