different way to get QPs
i was thinking that the current way to get a QP is through a mod. mods do give them out and i remember that there is a thread somewhere where u can request it to be given somewhere but what about a new way. a way where mods arent needed and the HC members decide as a group to who gets a QP
for this to be explained clearer i am just going to imagine there is a new button that is there, it is called B1. now what i was thinking is that when there is a thread that many members like they press on B1. then a little screen comes up and it says something like "are you sure u want to vote for this post" then u selesct yes. now that this has been done the thread has gained acknowledgement (lets call this "ak" for short).
when a certain thread or post gains enough ak then it recieves a QP, no questions asked.
i was also thinking and this couldnt be implemented without some rules. i was thinking of these:
-10 ppl must give the thread ak
-the combined total of these 10 (or more) ppls post count must be atleast 5000
-you cannot give ak to yourself
to clarify a bit, 16 ppl may give a post ak but if thier total post count adds up to 4680 then the thread wont be given a QP. also if 8 ppl give ak to a thread and thier total post count is 5728, the thread wont be given a QP
also when u press B1, u see how much ak the post already has.
i was thinking this so mods wont have to be called up so often and us members can have a bigger say in QP material
so what do you guys think?

there are a seires of problems with your system
a) there could be alot of spammers who just decide to support each other and vote for each other, all you need is about 7 spammers to get together and give each other QP's
b) some one with 2 accounts and has over 900 posts on one acount can cheat and vote for themselves hence making it easier for them to get QP's
c) a group of ****heads could go around giving votes to people who arent doing the right thing
d) favouritism will be at an incredible high
e) people will keep bugging you to vote for them and it will get annoying
but overall its not a bad idea

A simple fix to that problem would be to simply make it so you can only vote for someone once every month. You can vote for other people, but not the same person.
But otherwise, besides the amount of scripting it would take to modify this board even more, its a overall good idea.

niceguy here are a few more rules:
-u cant vote for somone with the same IP as you (ppl with 2 accounts)
-mods should be able to see who is giving votes to who so if there is one person going around giving votes to anyone they can be dealt with
if ppl bug u report to mods (this is just common sense)

what about 2 account people using different IP's? and if the same IP cant vote then that means u cant vote for ur bro/sis if he/she uses the same IP...

just make it a "rate this post" and "rate this thread"
and every member can only vote once for the tread and once for a specic post.
the key would be that the rating system would have 3-5 categories of ratin (good to bad) then it wouldn't be the number of hits but the overall average level of quality that the members feel the post was ...
so if 3people vote "it's freakin' great" and 4 vote bah, not great" then the average would not validate a point of merrit.
one thing you can add... if a post gets a certain number of good hits, then the mods would see the members like it.
(this way we're not taking the power out of the modsquad, but it doesn't take one member to nominate a qp.)
I think this idea came up a while back..... i can't remember what happened.
(keep the ideas coming...
im mine don't make sense it's cause i just woke up)

This isn't a very strong point, but I'll bring it up anyway. You know how often times members choose not to read posts or threads concerning a subject that doesn't interest them? There's the possibility that a thread has good quality potential, yet the community interest (or spark) isn't there. I could very well create an exceptionally wonderful thread about guitar music and not very many people will bother to spend more than six seconds looking at it.
I'm bringing this up because I'm guilty of it too. Sometimes I see a really good thread by someone on a topic I'm unfamiliar with, so I leave it alone after a quick skim-read. Would I leave a good comment about it? I could, but probably not, since I'm not into the subject. The same goes for voting. Why would somebody who hates my interests even bother to vote for my thread, however good it may be?
Regardless of whether we start voting or keep our original QP system, there are some things to look out for. I'm thinking that the ex-spammers will have a hard time, particularly if their past reputations with other HC members wasn't too great. Fortunately, the mods say that they will try to be fair about it.

Another flaw I think, would be in that to work fairly we would need for everyone to participate. It seems to me that in order to maintain a 'fair' representation, it would take all of the different types of posters to go along with it. I really don't imagine that would be the case.
Plus I don't like the idea of being obsolete
I think that members should always go ahead and recommend QP's for posts in the feedback threads or over IM's, but ultimately the final decision is beft left to moderators and admin

Pandora,
well I can name you at least 7(?)
(how many qp's do I have now? oh yeah that's right 3 so ok....)
...yeah 7 good solid posts where I should get a qp!! lol
so you say it sounds suspicious that I name 7 eh??
well that's coincidental!
(oh I see, because of my flood protect... ah well trust in that I had not realized I still needed 7 qp's for that!)

Ooops Jebus, did I forget to mention that you should only nominate other people's posts - when you nominate your own it makes us mods make a face like we just sucked on a particularly sour lemon and we tend to move away from that particular area (with our red stars in tow )
Lord_PC, I didn't mean to sound harsh on your idea - but I've seen thread ratings and other such things on different boards, and I just found that it becomes very cliquish - you can always tell which group of people are using the system because they are the only ones who get the bonuses. People will start asking each other to vote for them in return for a vote of their own - and the other posters who really don't talk with that group tend to be left out, and don't use the system at all.

hmmm,.... the point i was trying to make was much less a
self-nomination of qp's than a self-proclomation of the 7 (it's seven I need right?? how the heck do I figure this **** out? ok now where was I??)
....WONDERFULL posts I've made in the last year!
(let's pretend it's a treasure hunt! I won't tell you which, but I can assure you that there are EXACTLY if not more qp worthy posts under my name that will in the end negate my flood! now you need to find them!! yey this is fun!!)
hey this coulda been alot simpler had you made me the vw mod!!

dont be afraid to give ur honest opinion. i was just thinking and i posted this up before i had a chance to really think about the cons.
and i think that the "u vote for me and i will vote for u" will become a problem.
well ok then, the current system will do then
