Why nobody cares about Heroes V?
Hi my dears friends of HC , I decided to put this in the tavern because in the altar nobody will see it, and I'm very interested in know why the small concern in this community about heroes V, while in others communities that part of the forum is one of the most active places... I'm just wondering why nobody or almost nobody here in the HC cares about Heroes V realease... ?? I mean... this is the new realease of the game that makes this community possible... we all here love heroes games... maybe heroes 2 or 3 or 4... or all... but now here are just some memmbers who are really interested in the future of this game... the most easy way to see why I say this, is the new topic posted by valeriy asking for guys who wants to join the HC beta test team, and there are already only two members who want to participate, while in other forums I'm sure this kind of topic will have a lot of replys in just hours...I hope you guys can tell me what is happen with us...
sorry for the bad english, , I'm just not a natural english speaker... so I do my best, and I think you will understand me

I also share your concerns over intrest in the next installment of the heroes series but I can't represent everyone's point of view when I use this saying:
"A look at the future just blinds you to present"
Also in regards to the beta testing, I would actually enjoy being apart of it but my internet connection is so horrific it's usually considered offensive to play online against other people.

Well I like to go 'ooh' and 'ahh' over new screenshots and footage as much as the next person. But after all the building up of hope I had for Heroes IV, I'd rather wait and keep my speculation to a minimum.

Well it's not out yet, and we've discussed it a fair bit in the altar with suggestions, predictions and out thoughts on what little previews we have like the screenshot analysis.
I think that there is fair hype for the game, but there's not much we can say (except 'Oh gee i'm excited Toto!) until it is released.
But there's a whole forum devoted to HOMM5, and yet the new Might and Magic game has been announced and no one even knows!

TA, I have already made a thread about the upcoming Dark Messiah game... but I guess nobody noticed, including you.
Quote: Hi my dears friends of HC , I decided to put this in the tavern because in the altar nobody will see it, and I'm very interested in know why the small concern in this community about heroes V, while in others communities that part of the forum is one of the most active places... I know what you mean. I saw you and me copying and pasting stuff on Heroes 5 from other boards minutes after the info appeared (I think I even got a QP for that, although I'm not sure; I guess I was faster than you ).
It lasted throughout August, but I finally got bored and asked Val about the updates (I knew all major fan sites were given updates before the info was released on the official teaser site). I guess that's when Lich King came back... doing a great job on two sites.
Back on topic, this is nothing new here. Here's a quote from LordPaul, an older member of HC:
Quote: Hey, what the hell happened? When did this place become one giant place for people to hang and not talk about Heroes? Do you know how many thread there are about Heroes in the top 20? 4!!!! There are only 4 threads in the top 20 of the Tavern that truly deal with Heroes? Four!!! That is freaking sad!
This was posted in 2001.
I was but a lurker then, but I remember the Tavern/ToH "war" between "tavern dwellers" and hardcore players.
In spite of recent critics and disagreements, I think the Library managed to keep the high value of Heroes-related topics. As for the Altar, you have to understand that a lot of these issues have been discussed over the years (see stickies!).
Speaking of which... the Ubi forum looks so pathetic, like a kindergarten and a few people who seem to have spent those years in a closet; every day I see several new threads asking "which is better - H3 or H4?" or "an idea - food in heroes"... Well, been there, done that.
The fact that Nival has decided to play it safe and make a H3 in 3D doesn't help either. Sorry, but in my book it's one step forward, two steps backward. Don't take me wrong - I'm sure I'll get the game (heck, I'd buy cereals with Heroes toys inside ), but I am disappointed... and that's an understatement!
However, just like you, I'm glued to the screen and keep hitting the "refresh" button every five minutes. Why? I'm not sure... I guess I'm waiting for a miracle. Bah. Anyway, the truth is I used to get the info and was online to share it with the rest of this community.
What happened? Nothing. Seemingly, people here are either not as big fanboys as others or they have nothing to say really.
If you think I'm too harsh, take a look at Angelspit's Celestial Heavens. Sure, they have the word games and real life topics, but the majority of posts and articles (not to mention daily news on the homepage!) is about Heroes 5.
Thus I often find myself logging in to the Round Table, then coming over here to see what's up.
Why do I keep coming back, you might ask?
Let's be honest - Heroes Community has always been more about community than about Heroes.
True, Xarfax posted some of the best stuff available on the net, and so did Frank, Wub, angelito, tigris and other veterans I don't even remember now. In addition, two sections of HC are actually forums of Tournament of Honor and MapHaven. Nevertheless, most people come here to chat, meet other people, share their thoughts and feelings or simply have fun.
Some of the most "honorable legendary heroes" of HC don't know much about the game in the first place. Take a look at Consis or Peacemaker, for example.
But you know what...?
It's OK.
It's nice to know that there is this secret place where you can talk to a bunch of special people.
So, Lord Crusader, check out the Tavern or the Other Side... while you are downloading the latest H5 video.

yeah I see that too... you are the only other guy who post new stuff in this site, and vladpopescu the guy who attack every new stuff ...

hope Lich King will see my posts first than yours ... but I'm glad for having a more active mod in the altar...

I'm an active poster there... and I'm agree, their discussions are very n00bish and old for this community... but I'm just happy to see a lot of new players interested in Heroes V... and that isn't happen in HC... I guees they come here searching for heroes stuff but they find talking about anything but heroes...

that is the main reason of why I want to join the beta test... if we give them good complains in quantity and quality we can get, a better game... but we need a good group of old heroes players... and I know here are one of the best places to find this kind of players... but they just didn't appear... where is Motorschaf, Xar, Wub, midnight and all good other heroes veterans players when Val is asking for help to do a good beta test team in HC??

I will be honest... I like what I see so far about Heroes V... I found some good stuff of both games heroes 3 and heroes 4... and just some concerns like the battlefield size, and no caravans etc... but if there are any opportunity of changing what we want to see in heroes V is the beta test, and I'm sure we can integrated a good team here...

I post there sometimes... but I just like to go there to see what the have to say about the new stuff...

yeah I know that and I like the way of HC... and I join that part of the community some time ago posting here or in the other side... or in the volcanic wastelands... I just hope that we can have more heroes talk in the future... just like in the library but talking about heroes V...

QP applied to Lord_crusader too because when I looked at the number of QP he had I thought, "well that doesn't seem right", this person is always friendly and helpful - why just one? This is something I think a lot lately, so you'll likely see more random QP from me from time to time.
On-topic: I personally don't like reading the previews after Heroes4. I was so excited about what I imagined the game could be after reading all the inside stuff; that by the time Heroes4 actually came out and I played it I hated it instantly. I figure I was let down because I let my imagination get carried away before the game was even out - so there was no choice but for me to be disappointed.
So now for Heroes5 I won't look at screenshots, or read articles or anything, I will wait until the finished product is in my hands before I make any opinion

I registered here a little over half a year after the release of H4, and at that time, most of the discussions were actually in Lands of Axeoth. The game was discussed through and through, kinda like in Library. Only, all the talk kinda died off there, and although I won't speculate in the reasons for that (ok, I was lying. Lack of MP in original version? Too unlike the previous games?), we all know that it did.
All we can do is hope that H5 will be good, and while I try to keep myself updated on the news about alignements, creatures, and whatnot, I am both too n00bish and too ignorant to really have anything to say.
Yes, I am interested in H5, but I bet I'll be even more interested once the game is actually released. I mean, it's almost a year 'till it hits the stores, and then perhaps another month before anyone starts to beat the campaigns, and then the discussions will start.
Until that time, it's only speculations, and talk about the graphics and unit design. Not very fascinating topics, if you ask me...

Trust me pan, it didnt make any difference with H4 when i got it all new without any idea what to expect. Fact of the matter is - a crap game is a crap game, no matter if you slowly dose yourself with it or take it all at once.

Heroes 4 had poor AI, which took all the fun from singleplayer games. However, it's still a fantastic game in hotseat and multiplayer mode. In addition, forget the CD maps and download some custom made scenarios.

I see a trend in gaming that is the same as whats
happening in movies: the people making these things
often try to substitute technology for good ideas.
Watch a well written, well acted B&W movie and you'll
see it couldn't be done better with todays know-how.
Old games that have great ideas still have their charm.
New games with great graphics using lots of chip power
can be empty of anything that makes a game attractive.
I hope Heroes V doesn't fall into that category

I think the forums will liven up dramatically and more talk about heroes will exist once the game is actually released. I have never played Heroes 4 so I cant make a judjement about it but from what I gather from hearing about it relentlessly in every forum on HC it had a huge impact on peoples "perceptions" about the introduction of new additions to the series. I think the point Pandora made is probly very true, that a lot of people are still in "shock" from expectations for Heroes 4 and are just kind of "taking it easy" with the hype on Heroes V.
Me personally I will certainly buy it when its released regardless of what i've heard about it on forums (if I can get my PC upgraded enough by then to play it ). And I strongly beleive that Nival/Ubisoft is doing an honest effort and a lot of hard work to create a good addition to the Heroes series that they hope the fans will be proud of.

Ideas and graphics have nothing to do with each other; nobody in the movie or gaming industry is trying to substitute technology for good ideas.
Bad movies with dazzling CGI would be even worse without it. There are great films that are even better because of new technology. Finally, there are a lot of old movies that suck big time.

Personally i believe the lack of real interest in heroes 5 stems from the fourth game. Back in 2001 when i joined this forum i was excited by the prospects of Heroes 4 being an even better game than three.
The people who actually made the games would visit the site, making you feel that the gamers ideas and feelings for the game mattered. So when it was finally released it prooved to be a bit of a slap in the face offering less than the previous game on most fronts. At best its more of a side step than an improvement to the game. This has then spilt the fans to those of wog and those of homm4
I think its hard for a series to recover from a bad part, Infact i cant think of one that has?
For me if homm4 was a film it would be alien3, ok in its own right but destroys what went before it. Its hard to be excited if you know homm5 is very close to being as bad as aliens4
Forever pessimistic, thats me
