personally i always thought hydras had 9 heads but i geuss that's too many heads to draw/model without causing a mess. my vote is for chaos hydra from h3

H3 Hydra was the best to my liking, Strong and scary, although the H5 heads look very nice, but the body of an elephant? (or the huge and the longest dinosaur which i forgot its name... lol)

I agree with you 100% because why would a witch or whatever be ahead of a Hydra? Something that can gulp her down with just one of its heads. Also I'm still pondering on the fact as to WHY the witch has some sort of hydra whip toy? Is it a toy? Is it a baby Hydra?

So the Hydra looks like the Brontosaurus? Well sure it's body "might" look like an elephant or even a rhino(excluding the LONG tail). The point I'm trying to make is that I hated the Hydra in Heroes 4 with it's 2 legs and five heads...
The Hydra from Heroes 5 gets my vote! If I were to follow the Greek Mythology though, I would have to go with the old-fashioned blue Hydra since they are serpent like, and have no legs.

I like the H3 Chaos Hydra best, with the H2 version in second place. In H2, the creature was tough with all the scales and slithering noises. The H3 Hydras look more mobile than the H2 creatures, making it appear more threatening. Unfortunately, the H5 Hydra looks too beefed-up to be a reasonable consideration.

even though is plain i vote for the heroes 2 hydra . despite the brownish colour the rest is ok. even the heroes 5 hydra looks fine but i dislike the way the designer combined the heads to the body. and that brontosaurus body does not offer much of a support for a quantity that large

Heroes V wins (you start to see a pattern here?)
Heroes I is outdated.
Heroes II is also outdated.
Heroes III isn't cool enough.
Heroes IV looks like a mutated snake.
Heroes V looks good. Not very good but good enough.

i think the whip is like an representation of power, like the griffin to the humans.
i wonder how much hp a lv5 hydra will have. according to heroes3, lv5 creatures had 30-70 hp, 70hp for an hydra? that's ridiculous! also the witch might have more hp than the hydra!! (even if it only had half the hp of hydra it still wouldn't make any sense)
apart from the drop in level, there are other things the hydra loses, such as the ability to attack only 3 targets at once, not all-round

I liked the new Hydra. Looks more imponent than H4 (that looks like a mutant lizzard).
The only thing I dislike is the color. The pink heads/helmets give a docile look that some how decrease its ferociousness.
Too bad it's not a higher level creature anymore...

Voted H5, like the way they made it, just one question.... Does it grow heads? Please, tell me it does, please.... I wanna see some stupid peasant attack my hydra and watch it grow an extra head Imagine, you start a battle with 1 head, and you end it with 9

It would be fair to say Heroes V has the best hydra concept art. But pay close attention to the joints between the head and the body in the demo, it seems like it had been glued on.

I like the Upgraded H5 hydra coz the balanced size between its heads and body, also the number of heads. H3 Hydra has bigger heads than its body. H4 only has two legs. H1 and H2 don't have legs and it is not as my imagination in mythology.

For me the best one is the HOMM III Chaos Hydra.
I explain:
The old Hydras (HOOM I & HOMM II) are good for their games, but even an idea based on them must be modernized, offcourse. The absence of legs is not good, as the Hydra is described with legs at the Greek Mythology (which is our refference on the Hydra and on many other cool legendary beings).
The HOMM IV Hydra is just funny and unbalanced. The is a thing called physics, and I doubt that the laws of this science will let a creature with a big body and 5 long necks hold itself on only 2 wide spread legs. And besides, it just looks funny to me... a big body with only 2 weak reptile legs...
The HOMM V Hydra suffers from imbalance aswell. In general it looks nice (lets thank the new 3D tech for that) but again the dino like lower body is too small to be enough of a support to a large, many headed, upper body. It just doesn't look right to me.
The HOMM III Hydra \ Chaos Hydra, compared to the other Hydras, has enough legs, good support at the lower body and looks nice.
If I were a Nival graphic designer, I would try to create a modernized 3D version of the HOMM III Chaos Hydra.

Look like real ones? have you ever seen a Hydra, a Minotaur, an Elf, a Gremlin, a Griffin (I can go on and on...) in real life? I bet you have not. How can you know what they "realy" look like? you can say what you think they should look like or what is closest to descriptions we have in mythology or folk stories, but not what is closer to reality!
By the way, I don't think it's a right move to degrade the Hydra to level 5. Hydras had always been on the highest or 2nd highest level, and IMO they should stay there.
Anyway, despite being level 5 the Hydra is still very powerfull: Many headed attack, huge HP for its level (more then many level 6 units!), regeneration each turn! (consider regenration of 100 HP every turn), good damage, Great for level 5 skills.
IMO the Hydra is closer to level 6 then level 5! it is like the Ghost Dragon, which is levle 7, but is closer to level 6.

Hydra is strong creature even if it's level 5. More over Regeneration not just fill up the hit point to maximum, but it works as Vampire's ability, it regenerates steady amounts of hit points each turn, and if theres a killed hydra, it will regenerate untill all hydras are back to life. So what comes to siege, either kill it instantly, leave it or do steady amount of damage each turn, or else it will be whole again in no time...

Anyway, as for sounds, I prefer the H1 Hydra. I just LOVED the attack sound.
Looks? H3.

For me H3 is the best. H5 hydra looks too tamed. I mean this armor on its heads, skulls on its necks, they couldn't make it themselves. But other things are good(cause it's in 3D so it must look well in zoomed view). In H2 they were soooooo slow, and in H1 too. H4 is strange. It looks like all of hydras mixed. It just looks bad. They have 2 legs and thats worst because if they are hydras from Erathia why do they have only two legs? They were too big to go through the portal and they ate their legs too go to new world? It's riddicolous don't you think?
