Guild Wars
Anyone here play this MMOPRG?? I just downloaded it and am quite happy to see that there are no payments so I've decided to give it a go.
Anyone else here who plays the game?

this must be the way of the heroes of might and magic V a nice sever security for the CD key... and no month payments  , I play it a bit... with a friend account... so can't play it much I guess this game deserves buy it

Hey.
- Well ok game imho, but I am a bit reluctant to really get into it.. and why you may ask .. the COMBAT "screen" handling.. it's CRAP.. I'd say bring in the way you can turn around and angle it anyway you like it ..like in NwN.
- I'll go paint myself orange to deflect the blast now... ;-P

There's a two week Guild Wars: Factions trial with the next issue of a local gaming magazine. Think I should give it a whirl?

Yeah, why not.
One of the best things about GW is the setting IMO. The world is amazing. I finished a quest just before and ended up on a cliff overlooking this desert. Normally you'd think that deserts are the most boring setting to look over. But I took a few screenshots because it looked amazing.
And there's a huge diversity in the landscape as well, going from icy mountains, to forests, to grasslands, deserts, wastelands, jungles, cities, urban slums etc. everything.

Hey,
- I still have the first edition somewhere, but TA, does the settings ( now ) allow one to have the "over shoulder - top down" combat screen ( permanent ) now... or do you still need to "mouse" it into the position each time you enter a fight etc. ?
- Cool game, just that I am too accustomed to the NwN settings by now and theres no turning back on my part

I don't know I haven't tried it.
The only problem is that I lost my original game CD which is annoying, I like having all 3 of them together like with my Dawn of War

I play Guild Wars quite a bit actually. I just received Factions expansion not two days ago.
Let's be honest about this game. This game does what no other will do: creates the sexiest, luscious, lustful, erotic, mystical and all around most beautiful women of any game I've ever played. I love a good fantasy game as much as the next fellow but that is certainly not why I play Guild Wars. If I wanted good quality fantasy characters, storyline, and plot then I'd simply play World of Warcraft. I've seen World of Warcraft's night elf women and I have to say they are "cute" and "sexy". I play Guild Wars almost exclusively to look at the women. No other games' female characters and non player characters (that I've ever played) resemble even half the beauty for those from Guild Wars.

I'm uncertain what exactly you don't like about the combat settings. What exactly is wrong with them in your mind? I've never had any problem with them. Are you comparing these settings to another game? If so, which one, and what was it that you liked about those particular settings?

yeah as pathetic as it sounds the girls in GW are hot
that's one thing I don't really like about WOW is that to me it looks cartoonish.

but that's not what I play it for. actually neither of my characters are female.
as I said I love the setting and it doesn't require that much level grinding, although I do think they sohuld raise the level cap from 20, it seems like everyone is level 20 now

also the world is huge. my friend saw the map of the Prophecies campaign and he was like THAT'S HUGE! and said it's bigger than the WOW. But then I told him that there were 2 more maps in the new expansions

-I was asking... asking.. if the setting ( when you enter a fight/combat) had been modified in some way compared to the early days of GW.
What (was / is ) "wrong" with them ( from my point of view ) .. and here I have to answer your question Are you comparing these settings to another game? first. Yes like I wrote, I have gotten too accustomed to the NwN settings ( where you have 3 types of settings and one beeing top/down - over-the-shoulder'ish kind ). Once set, it stays there and you can move the view before-in-after-running..etc. by using the arrow keys right/left.
- When I gave this great game a go, I could get my "over-the-shoulder'ish setting.. but once I entered a battle I had to use the mouse to get the angle right all the time. And that really mafe me give up playing. That is what I was asking TA about. Simple....
But enough(t) ranting and lets get OT again

Ah I See . . .
Sphere, it sounds like you have become very accustomed and fixated on the user control panel setting for NeverWinter Nights. I understand. I'm sorry you have grown incompatible with other MMORPG user control panels and settings. If you are unable to open yourself to future game battle views, control settings, and user interface control panels then I don't think you would enjoy any other games. There is nothing wrong with having a favorite game view or style of user interface, but it might limit the number of playable games in the future.
My personal favorite user control panel interface is the one used in Warcraft III. I wish all games could use this one but I understand every game designer wants to do it in their own way.
