Fair enough. Is that stated anywhere in the rule book? I looked everywhere I thought it'd be if it were there and didn't find anything. I don't know of any game where a negative number is allowed, but since there is an attack score and a die roll, a nagative die roll alone wouldn't necessarily result in a negative attack score total. Thought it was worth asking.
