How to change default difficulty for random map ?
Hello all
I am new to the forum. I started playing SoD last year and my skills at single-player are now getting better.
I only played random maps and too many times I found myself in day three on an easy map because I forgot to select Expert difficulty level and the game has another default level at the random map screen, before the game. I would like a hack, if somebody knows one, to have the Expert level as the default difficulty for random maps (that is, untill my skills will allow me to advance to Impossible).
Also I seems to me that the random map screen allows you to chose the number of possibly-human players and number of computer-only players, but for multiplayer I don't know how to configure random map generator to have the two players as allies. It is allways at random whether me and my friend will play as allies or enemies. Is there something I can set in the random map options screen, before the game, so that the map will have me and my friend as allies ?
Thank you

Hello and welcome to our forum
Yes, u can chose many settings on a random map, even on multiplayer games.
If u want to play with your friend in a team vs the computer, then u have to do the following settings:
In the first line (number of human or computer players), u chose 2.
In the second line (number of human teams) u chose 1.
In the third line (number of computer only players) u chose as many as u want (1-6)
In the fourth line (number of computer only teams) u chose as many as u want. If u want all computer players in one team, then u have to chose 1 here.
So for example, u wanna do a 2vs2 game, u and your friend in one team, against 2 allied computer players, u have to do the following settings: (from top row to bottom)
2
1
2
1
And u can chose the difficulty there aswell. I would suggest u chose NO water, coz on randoms, those maps won´t be good ones, the comp creates just 1 or 2 big islands and the rest of the map is water.
Also set the monsters on strong, to have more difficulty.
If u have any more questions, feel free to ask.

I like to play random maps because I think they ofer more realistic scenairios. That's why on single-player I let all to the default of 'random' and then wait to see what kind of map I will play.
I would like a way to have the difficutly level already set when I enter the random map screen.
How do you feel about playing with allies ? While it is true they won for me a number of maps, I also find them to be much of a problem. Last map I played the aly camed in my lands and cleaned-up the map for me !! They took all my spare resources, mines and even dwellings. I had a fortress, the aly had a conflux, and they took me a gorgon lair. Why did the aly want my gorgon lair ? It had a conflux ! All this happened because the enemies were not reachable at that time, and the aly had nothing else left do to ...
Also, when the aly sends me resources it can ask me to give them something back ... Can I somehow ask my aly for resources in a critical day ?
I would also like to know, when a attack a two-hex unit with cerberi or chaos hydras, does the two-hex unit take double-damage, compared to some equal one-hex unit ? The magogs' fireball does double damage with hitting a two-hex unit ?
Please tell me, how much does it take for you to finish a map ? An XL map is so tempting to me, but I only played one like once or twice, because if the random map generator gives me some 'me against the word' (one to many) scenario it takes me like 48h of gameplay to finish...
Thank you
