wow
when i posted this thread i didn't think it would be so interesting.
i see that each one has his own favourite town and defend his choice STRONGLY with great arguments.
this shows that the game is well balanced and all the town types are almost equal in strength.it is all about your own fighting style and technic to decide which town you prefer.
THAT'S WHY I LOVE THAT GAME!

The Caos is the best town without doubt..I can proove it:
1st..The most offensive spells came from Caos Sorcerers
2nd..The most expensive and strong creature came from Caos and its name is Black Dragon. It's the only creature immune to spell.I would like to see your Titans or Genies against my Blacks..less than nothing your spells, swords, units and whatever you want!
3d..Have you ever seen what a couple of hundreds of efreets can do?
I suggest you to run!
4..My town gives 1000exp at every hero comes to it!
Caos?! of course yes!
Let everything else just burn!

The black dragon is the best creature that one can purchase in a town, no doubt about that. The problem is, however, that it is too expensive. By the time you have a black dragon, I'd have 8-10 titans.
When defending a town, a titan is better than a black dragon. Granted, when standing on one of the town's towers the black dragon is much stronger than the titan, but usually it can get nothing done from up there. It needs to get down to the ground to take part in direct combat. The titan can stand on the tower and shoot, with superb attack and defence statistics.
Sure, no magic inflicts any direct damage to the black dragons. But when genies make several duplicates of titans, the duplicates sure can make a whole lot of damage, even to the black dragons.
A couple of hundreds of efreets? Just about any creature can make a lot of damage if it is represented in a bunch of a couple of hundreds. But how long time will you need to build this sort of army? Especcially if you at the same time try to buy black dragons? Efreets are no match for genies. None what so ever. Efreets are in fact the biggest disappointment of heroes 4. In heroes 3 they were equal to the genies, but in heroes 4 they've been left far behind - because of genies' ability to cast spells.
Yes, the strongest spells are to be found in the chaos town. But only heroes cast these spells. It is almost impossible to get a hero so strong, that his lightening spells will be any match for the ice bolt spells of say 50-100 genies.
If you have one mage and one lord, you have an almost inbeatable combination. The mage will have good spells, and the lord will generate a higher creature growth through his nobility.

The arguments here are both really strong. Chaos pose a hugely aggressive force with Black Dragons that are immune to magic and Efreets with their ability to harm whatever atttacks it. And an attacking spell is always a good spell.
But the point about Orders ability at ranged attacks with the Titans and magic via the Genies can't be missed. I've got to be honest I'm with Order. Spells such as Hypontise and Beserk can really mess with an enemys game plan. Plus with Genies being able to cast spells, and provided you have built up a decent Sorcerer you can cause mayhem.
The point that town portal is available only to the Order school of magic clinches it for. Who can honestly say they didn't have fun in Heroes 3 walking around with an army the size of a country at their disposal?

Nature.
The ability to have an army with FOUR flyers (sprites, griffins, mantises and pheonixes), two of them 4th levels. With GM summoning, you get 1 griffin per day, so your army grows huge fast. A griffin with first strike cast on it can take out a whole army, just flying it to the middle and letting everyone attack it. Sure it doesn't work as well in multiplayer, but nature still rocks.
Also having the archer hero, and a life hero either tactics or life magic (for the aweseome blesses and resurrection).
Can't match any of the fractions.

Can't knock what you've said there. The creatures in Nature are impressive and two level 4s can't be sniffed at either. But instead of a life heroe with life spells why not concentrate on gaining a heroe who specialises in summoning? You could be summoning an extra 3 Phoenixs or Mantises a turn, making your hard army even harder.
Be careful to arm your nature with plenty of magic resistance however. Those Griffins aren't as useful with Hypnotise cast on them...

You have a point there. But I guess another hero with GM summoning isn't really necessary, is it? I prefer Mass Bless, ressurection, celestial armor, and many more useful spells.
Going pure quantity won't work, you have to get both magic and army, but that's just my opinion. Never tried an army with more than 1 summoner.
I remember that with elwin in the nature campain, I would get 2 griffins per day, and that was really cool.

I undertsand what your saying there. With your way you have the added bonus of having quantity and magic. Mass bless and mass misfortune could be a real winner when combined with all the hard creatures nature has to offer. I may have to try that.

Nature
Nature has nice creatures, but what I like most is summoning magic. If you are lucky you can even learn Advanced life magic for some money in a haven town which could also give you Martyr which is excellent when combined with summoned creatures imho.

Why fight?
Lets sneak and steal. My stealth skilled hero often wins a scenario for me (i ve fooled my friend on hotseat by stealing his ship when he was on an island and then had free way to his castle)and takes care of my artifacts.
Chaos gives zou speed.

I seem to be missing something
How did _you_ get in the island? Walking on water? Unless you took two heroes on one ship, and went back with both your ship and his. But that would mean two heroes with GM stealth.

I had only one hero (dear Sizzy) who landed on Zanfas island. Orcs took the ship/t back and thats all.

I love the Haven just as I loved the Castles in H1-3
I gotta admit it was pretty hard to do in this game because I really do believe some of the other factions were much better.
