ICTC: Horde
Horde Faction
• Aka: The Free Cities of the East
• Associated colors: blue, orange, and black
• Worship: Sylath , the Dragon of Air
• Core philosophy: “There is no right in slavery.”
• Country / kingdom: Free Cities
• Capital city: Valcan, the School of the Arch Sorcerers
• Key symbols: Lightning of Revenge, and the Broken Chain of Freedom
• Description:
The Free Cities of the East’s people have changed over time becoming more resentful of the enslavers. This has led to more evil like tendencies of vengeance. The Sorcerers govern inside of the cities mostly, but it is different outside of the cities. The style I thought to achieve was similar to the Kremlin inside the center of town and outside the wall of the city to look much more nomadic like steppes. The blackguard and sorcerers dress in robes and remain hooded in an act of deception now. The sorcerers wear a mask on many occasions as well. Even though the people have taken a darker course Sylath remains good.
BRIEF HISTORY
3 YSD: Birth of the Falcon Empire
Falcon the Great unifies the human kingdoms (founding the empire that will one day become the Haven faction). A prophecy tells that the Falcon line shall endure as long as the world does.
28-40 YSD: Wars of Fire
First great demon incursion. Most of the Angels perish during these wars. The survivors take refuge in the Falcon Empire, which is increasingly turned away from the Dragon of Air – Sylath, and toward the Dragon of Light.
48 YSD: the Falcon Empire becomes the “Holy” Falcon Empire – Founding of the Free Cities of the East Emperor Brian Falcon gives absolute power to the Church of the Dragon of Light. The Human kingdom is renamed “Holy Falcon Empire”. Dissent grows among many citizens who resent being forced to abandon their faith in Sylath. Many will leave the Empire's territory to found the Free Cities of the East.
467-504 YSD: The Orc Crusades
Orcish rebellion in the Seven Cities, which spreads to Haven.
Rejecting their masters and the Dragon Gods, the Orcs declare themselves free.
In the Falcon Empire, Crusades are declared against the Orcs – attempts to subjugate them and convert them back to dragon worship. The fighting is brutal, and the Orcs are relentlessly driven back. Eventually, the unrepentant survivors flee wherever they can, including the deserts of the south, the steppes of the north-east and the Barrier Islands of the east.
A great storm sinks the Haven fleet that was prepared to follow the Orcs to their island refuge. The Falcon Emperor declares this a sign from the Dragons, and formally ends the Orcish Crusades.
It was Sylath the Dragon of Air the created the storm in revenge for the betrayal of the Falcon Empire. The Orcs were allowed to join the Free Cities in worship of the Sylath, but they refused. Sylath took their refusal with tolerance in sympathy for what the Orcs had been through allowing them to continue.
512 YSD: Creation of the Beast-men
Beast-men (minotaurs, centaurs, harpies…) are created as servants, playthings, and guards in the Seven Cities. Their stated purpose is to replace the Orcs. Once again the mortals angered Sylath. Sylath begins to lead the Free Cities toward a more rigorous path of warfare to free the slaves and bring justice to those that imposed the slavery.
751-770 YSD: Purge of the Necromancers - Civil war in the Seven Cities
Sylath calls on the Efreets for assistance because of their hatred for the Genies. During the Chaos in the Seven Cities the Efreets stage an attack without carrying the banner of the Free Cities. The plan was to free as many of the beast-men during the attack. The harpies follow the Efreets back to the Free Cities.
Nomad (Upgrade: Dragoon)
The nomads are the main troops of the Horde faction. They move very fast, and once upgraded they receive first strike. (Similar to nomads in Heroes 4.)
Harpy (Upgrade: Harpy Hag)
Harpies join the ranks to punish the other factions for slavery. The harpies came to the free cities to join the ranks with the calling of the Dragon of Air. They show no mercy. The upgrade allows the harpy hag to fly back thus allowing them to attack without retaliation. (Similar to harpies in Heroes 3.)
Manticore (Upgrade: Scorpicore)
The manticores have long followed the Horde faction being one of the most reliable units. Once upgraded to scorpicore they can paralyze the enemy in battle. (Similar to heroes 3 but lower stats overall.)
Ronin (Upgrade: Avenger)
Ronin are free knights serving no one but themselves and the Dragon of Air. Their horses have been blessed by Sylath with the ability of flight. They chose to remain free of the order created when the Falcon Empire chose the Dragon of Light. They felt betrayed by the Falcon Empire and wish to destroy the knights of the empire. (Once upgraded they receive the bonus of 20% of time doing double damage like Heroes 3, and get a bonus fighting Cavaliers and Paladins.)
Efreet (Upgrade: Master Efreet)
Efreets were called upon to help lead the beast-men out of slavery. They wish to utterly destroy the genies. They do more damage to genies, as well as having the fire shield when upgraded. (Similar to efreets in Heroes 3 with lower overall stats.)
Sorcerer (Upgrade: Arch Sorcerer)
The sorcerer were branded as evil by the Haven faction and exiled. Once joining the Free Cities they quickly became revered for their magic. The sorcerers receive many spells to that are used for the entire army. (For Example Mass Haste) Once upgrade they have the ability use an electric attack on their foes. (Many similarities with evil sorcerers from Heroes 4, except upgraded does an electric shock.)
Roc (Upgrade: Thunderbird)
The thunderbird is the embodiment of the Dragon of Air, free and vengeful of those who try to enslave any creature. Rocs begin without the thunder attack but once upgraded the thunderbird's attack is not affected by the defense of the foe. (Similar to Heroes 3 and 4, but even tougher.)
The Horde Faction heroes are called abolitionists and their ability is persuasive diplomacy.
Persuasive diplomacy- the abolitionists have the ability to persuade enemies forces to join them in their fight to free all slaves either freely or by the sword. (Same as diplomacy in Heroes 4.)

I must say ý am a bit confused to find some ideas very similar to my castle (I hope you dont take as an accusition of plagarism because its not)I liked it.
-The sorceres is a good creature with that mask on,ý hope there is an ability linked with that mask.
-ý think the manticore is not so suitable fot a 3rd level it seems so much stronger.
-The ronin seems fine but I hope the art changes a bit,it feels too much ringwraith. Also a creative ability beside that hate thing could be good.
Anyway good luck to you .

Ya just noticed your thunderbirds and efreets in Thundercrack after you posted the reply. I did not see them before. I don't know if you edited it or not. I really did not notice what you had.
The manticore I think should be weak that is why I put them at level 3. I do not think they will be used otherwise in the game.
I was hoping for the ronin to look kinda ringwraith like. Very unkept clothing dressed in rags thing. The complete opposite of knights. I just do not want them to be dead. I was thinking of them as the anti-Paladin role. I was kinda hoping this would be the hate faction. That was what the Lightning of Revenge symbol was for.
The sorcerer's mask would symbolize them hiding something. I could work on something else to it. The basic idea of the faction was hate. Hate leads to path of evil.
Oh thanks for the nice comments.

Hmm I like the creatures alot, but they don't really suit each other and if they did I wouldn't put them in that order..
But still good. Interesting concept

I put them in that order because the thunderbird obviously has to be the strongest. The sorcerer I wanted to revive from Heroes 4, and it needs to be something much stronger than the other mages. The Efreet I wanted to go somewhere because otherwise I think they will not be used and they need to be as strong as the genies. The avengers were more important to me than the manticores. The manticores are kinda the filler.

About the mask and the sorcerer here is an idea
-Mask Of Mirrors:It randomly uses one ability of a creature(that is usefull) that it attacks or steals it for 3 turns.lets say ýt attacks wampires it could get life draining or no enemy retaliation or it attacks dragons it is fire breathing or immune to magic for 3 turns after it has attacked.

Ya the ability sounds good, but I think it is too powerful. I was thinking of more higher stats. I wanted them to not be a push over.

Horde
Race( 2+ 2)=4 this is just a collection of creatures loosely bound by some aversion to slavery. I can’t buy it.
History(0 +0 )=0 no history. I mean the ‘free cities of the east’ must have some type of interesting stories to tell.
Creatures(1 +3 )=4 this is the weirdest collection of repeats I’ve seen.
Balance( 1+5 )=6
Originality=2
(plus one for finding some interesting pix)
Total Score=17
How I graded these:
Race (Originality [1-5]+Compatibility with HOMM5 universe[1-5])
History (How interesting is it to me [1-5] +Compatibility with HOMM5 universe [1-5])
Creatures (Originality [1-5] +Internal Consistency [1-5])
Balance (are the special skills inventive [1-5] + Does it have a variety of flyers, shooters, walkers, spell-casters [1-5]
Originality (all the originality scores added up and divided by two. This means that creativity counts twice. [1-10])
27 to go

Judge rating: 30 or lower.
History is lacking and it is unclear why those creatures would join and fight together.
Not much is told about what united them as a faction. Nice illustrations, but entry needs a lot more work.
