Interesting saves
Random maps suck
Rules suck
H3 made maps were good atleast the more thought out ones. H4 maps weren't as good, and if you have played H5 beta at all you are hoping the fix ALOT of things.
This was my yearly remark untill H5 comes out.
Good bye

Ok i never played on random maps except under extreme duress...and your right they suck...but not the concept in general..only because the game didnt tend to make good random maps.
randoms were good for weak players who needed some luck ..an unbalanced start and they could knock off a champ maybe..or the less reputable players who could use their code more easily to make things magically appear on a map where everything is possible.
slso their was the issue of playing a game for 4 freaking hours and finding out you had no way to get to your opponent....RESTART!!! lol.
if you could get past all that randoms had their appeal, but i never could.
if randoms are gonna work in homm5 theyll need
1. a hack free game
2. a way to balance both sides so no player has a hopeless starting position
3. better checking for no win scenarios(players not able to reach opponent).
and ya your right unicorn..the less rules the better..unless you enjoy seeing the fights in the zone...hey actually that was one of my favorite parts..

That isn't the only reason
You left out the reason I and many other players liked playing randoms. It wasn't cause I wanted or needed luck... it was because for me at least half of the fun of the game was the unknown. I love exploring the map and not knowing what is beyond the "Lots of Grand Elves" blocking the road. I used to play Hourglass and some of the other closed maps (Mostly cause the other half of the fun for me was building up my heroes.) and I got so I started to hate playing cause i went through the same moves over and over again. I could memorize every step on every map but for me that is dull as hell.
Sure I hated restarting in the beginning but then we started learning about templates and which ones made good maps and which didn't. Finally Midnight and a few others made some templates of their own that really are quite good and make pretty good maps that balance out quite well most of the time. For me these things breathe life into the game and is what made me enjoy playing it all these years.
One final note that I have no wish to start a big debate but there is a lot of skill and much more "thinking on your feet" on randoms cause everything isn't "known" before anyone even takes a turn.
Whatever your preferences... have fun and good luck!

This could possibly win the HC all time "dumbarse ignorant statements" award
Randoms are more appropriate for players with about 1000% better skill level than yours.

Adam I have a feeling this is leading to the same 100th time on the comparison between what has more skills.
Mesmoizing maps or a total random.
So it has a little luck, what makes me keep playing, it's fun, it makes the game more interesting.
Not when you know if you go on this island the earth book will always be there .
EDIT
rarely & hate editing but i had to fix a few words I mispeeled lol.
