Well, it was a commendable guide, 3 days after game release. The problem is, that 16 years passed and in game tactics and possibilities went a lot beyond of what is meticulously stated in that guide.

Let's look at this guide and compare it to how it looks today:
Btw Jolly this was a good guide for its time +1 from me for that.
"This one is easy. You will have a Tactics advantage except maybe against Torosar (you will do the same then, except that you'll use the first turn for move your units nearer to the opposing forces): Deploy your units as far forward as possible, the shooters, too, so that they have targets in range. Cast Mass Slow. Attack with all you've got."
- You can be darn sure the Tower hero will have Expert tactics, it is one of the most important skills for the tower. This means that Dungeon is forced to advance and Medusas and Evil Eyes deal half damage unless you move em forward, if you stay then the ranged units will be shielded in.
"What the Dragons should attack, depends. A double hex attack is good. Often a tough stack may be attacked via Ammunition Cart, First Aid Tent or Ballista, but the attack must be worth it. Remember the extra 50% damage against Titans, so the Dragons' base damage against Titans is 60-75. However, the Titans may not be the biggest threat. Naga Queens do a hell of a lot of no-retaliation damage, but have a Defense Value of 13 only. The Dragons will do a lot of damage against them and a follow-up attack of the Minotaurs may just kill them completely."
- If one allows for double hex strikes, one simply blows. Titans, are actually the biggest threat as they will best the black dragons one on one. Naga Queens are powerful too but with proper positioning, you will be forced to pick between them and the Titans.
"A good target for the Scorpicores are the Archmages, while the Minotaurs can make a follow-up against the Dragons' target or attack the Genies. The Hags will do a lot of damage against the Gremlins. With a plus on the might side the shooter can fire even upon higher level monsters like, for instance, Naga Queens, and still do good damage!"
- A good target for the scorpicores are the Naga Queens, hope for proc - otherwise slam with Minotaurs or Dragons when retal is soaked.
"Take care if you fight against Neela! A lvl 19 Neela will have her Armorer skill up to nearly 30%. This alone is hard enough as it is the same as a permanently installed expert Shield spell, but should she cast Mass Shield the going gets tough indeed: 60% damage reduction is something worth considering."
- It's 51% damage reduction if I am not misstaken? Besides, it is more likely to face a Barbarian, Overlord or Planeswalker.

Anil said: Conflux: Best town i think. Has a lot of advantage; The fastest town in the game, not expensive, 2.nd most hp per week. 4 gold speciality hero, good native terrain, Easy clean to maps with low level troops, best grail. Water magic is essential i think.
Tower and Inferno are weak towns.
Dungeon is very map depends. Dungeon has statistically has worst damage potantial and worst HP till Black Dragons. Dungeon army isn't ready to battle without Black Dragons.
Dungeon is one of the best towns pre 7th dwell because the two shooters and high damage of minotaurs/troglodytes combined with the baiting of harpies is very powerful.

Apart from Fortress I consider dungeon to be one of my weaker towns. Personal opinion I guess.
Lol. Please stop trolling

It's no trolling Anil. I do consider dungeon to be one of the weakest towns overall, but not in the aspect of clearing the map in the early game apart from the 7th dwell. You see there are many things to consider when you rank a town. Alas in the very end Anil, play the town you love and you will be happy.

In fact it is known since the beginning, but the template is much more important than the faction balance.
Very few low lvl stacks in a big area (unlucky rng) = Necro is terrible
Very close neutral/ enemy town = Fortress is a top tier faction.
No crystals nearby = No behemoth week 1/2 = Stronghold unplayable.
That's why H3 balance is extremely template/ map dependant.

3 crystals are not so hard to get in early days -people play usually at hard level. I never experienced shortage for behemot lair, is the easiest to build.

Indeed H3 is a lot about luck, one can't deny that.
However I agree with Sal when it comes to Behemoths, I have never really had any issues getting those.

I usually just rush my necromancy and try to get the cloak of the undead king so I can revive power liches. I usually love to play ranged stuff so being able to mob AND ranged at the same time is just icing on the cake to me. Since reviving 100 power liches usually restores what I lost and then some.
Though Im currently JUST starting the game and learning each town as I go.

Playing with Necropolis in HotA is just pain. They did good job by nerfing necomancy but they did forget to boost other necro units such as Wraith,Lich. Their unupgraded units are full of garbage. The worst town in HotA by far. Is there any way to win in 1v7 maps with expert difficulty?
