Interesting situation!
**** BS and Sarcasm switches are off! ****
I am at this moment on standby for evacuation from the Darby forest fire area. This is Highway 4 in California and the forest is very dry. Power is on for the first time since last night.
The fire is 3 miles away (by highway) at present and there are 2 fire breaks before my house, ashes are falling like snow and the airplanes are dropping water like crazy!
The flume (wooden water pathway) has been destroyed and 4 small cities are without water.
We are in absolutely no danger. We have essentials packed and house to house patrols will notify us if evacuation is necessary and we will drive away.
Hoping for low winds and a little rain here!

Update!
The fire continues to rage. We are hopeful that we wont have to leave though.
Its a very noisy night, they are bringing in 300 fire trucks and 25 bulldozers to get a fast start on it in the morning.
More good news! The wind has almost completely died down.
The electricity comes and goes but its mostly on at this point.

Update!
The wind is blowing a little more this morning but not too bad. I think today may decide if they can change the direction of the fires movement. Many brave men with fire trucks, bulldozers and airplanes are doing a wonderful job here!! I feel more confident today than I did yesterday. The fire is burning fiercely yes, and the forest is being destroyed, but houses and lives have been protected! The only major loss so far is the water supply to 4 local towns.

It doesn't sound good, hope that everyone is ok and keeps that way. I know how they feel, I also live close to a wood and situations like that happens sometimes in the summer. The best luck to you craig, and for the other ppl that are on the same situation.

This is one of those times when I'd support sending some of our water down to CA.
I'll keep a good thought out for you, Craig. Since you're still able to post, we'll assume the best for you for now.

Update!
Well it's been like a war zone here. Bombers dropping fire retardent, Helicopters with water, trucks, bulldozers... The only thing missing is bullets.
Last night was like a scene from a Steven King movie. The southern sky was full of fire about 1/2 mile from my house!
A horrible yet strangely beautiful site! I guess because we dont see things like that often except on TV or movies.
The wind is blowing much too hard this morning but conditions are still improving. It appears that they have knocked the center out of the moving wall of flame and now the fire will continue to burn in deep canyons that bypass inhabited areas. 500 homes were evacuated but some of those people are moving back already!!
I think my house is now totally safe from the fire barring some awful wind conditions. Maybe I can get back to playing Heroes once again!

This is the very first thread in the OSM subforum.
When this thread was made the World Trade Center was still standing for another few days, H5 would not be released for another several years, Star Wars: The Clone Wars was set to be released, and Facebook would not be founded for another 3 years. So much has happened since then.
