Was the Transition from 2D to 3D worth it (HOMM2 to HOMM3)
Hello I was wondering what you all thought about this particular topic.
I would like to hear your replies, and happy posting
Ok in my opinion I think that the transition from 2D to 3D was worth it for a number of reasons.
1- It adds more realism into the game, and it looks more modern than HOMM2 which looks like an old game, which it is but anyway.
2-It adds more depth into the game.
3-It is now more fun to look at the landscapes, all the objects that you see around, smoke coming out from the 3D looking volcano, the creatures now being 3D which makes them look really cool, the battlefield looks 3D and it adds that little more excitment and WOW factor to it, and Personally I love lokking at all the environments and their surroundings.
The only downside to having HOMM3 #D is that it won't play on older machines.
Unlike HOMM2 which played on older and newer machines (win2000 and XP patch needed) which was quite good, as you could play an excellent game, without having to buy a new computer just because the game doesnt work, or you wouldn't have to worry about you wasting your money on having a game that wouldnt work on your newer maching.
IMHP the transition from 2D to 3D is really worth it, and it is an excellent addition to the Heroes series.

The amount of topics you make is terrific. Although seldom you make something useful, most of the time its just spam. Please, don't make such useless topics. Or, if you really want to banned, we won't mind...

Well, you have to admit the fact that a lot of Heroes topics have already been covered over the course of the past how many years. I don't think new members start these threads simply because they want to get banned. A lot of them just aren't aware that such discussions may have taken place since the beginning. A smart move for William here would be to IM Angelito to check if a thread topic has been covered. Continue to guide him in the right direction, but don't word things in order to shatter his morale.
On topic: I agree that the 3D look added a lot of interesting detail to the world of Heroes. The eye candy and lushness of the landscape is very attractive. The monster animations are also cool to observe. Still, Heroes 2 was the first game I ever loved, and its graphics mean a lot to me as well.

The Graphics of HoMM2 might not be the best, but they did have some sort of enchanted feeling over them. I liked that a lot.
But HoMM3's graphics were indeed a very good transition to 3D

As i already stated towards another member, itīs not you who decides if topics are usefull or not. And itīs also not you who has to judge if another member is allowed to create new threads or not.
These replies you are giving to wiliams posts are mostly SPAM, not the created topics.
So please stop it.

Well I really like the 2D elements of the game, but I look for something better, or something more visually enchanting or something like that
I think that 3D is better although I first started playing 2D and that's what got me going into playing this series, as I loved Heroes of might and Magic 2 probably because it was the graphics and not to mention the fun and replayability that it has to offer.
I like 3D better.

What is 3D in HOMM3??
The tilted hex grid on the HoMM3 battle fields really doesn't cut it by todays standards and the changes to the battlefields have really been the nicest graphical progress going forward to HoMM4. Those ship planks on my 1280 screen are just fantastic.
But I'm totally in love with the HoMM3 adventure map. The clarity, even when running the 800x600 on higher resolutions TFTs, is just perfect.
The problem with 3D to me is that while graphics are supposed to become more realistic, there is a big problem with scale. In HoMM3 buildings are nice symbolic representations on a map. We are accustomed to maps using larger symbols for roads and locations.
Now in HoMM4 the windmill is a sizeable structure and the hero on his horse is drawn pretty much to scale. But the result is that his daily movement looks silly. With some peasants in his troops he can hardly circle that windmill in a day. The entire map looks like it would easily fit into a few blocks of midtown Manhattan, instead of representing at least counties if not states or continents. Movement is LITERALLY sluggish.
The problem was the same when old Ultima 8 came out. Nice graphics with what was then considered 3D perspective. But that island was so tiny, compared to the vast expanses covered by Ultima 7 - a game that had a similar cult status as HoMM3 in its time.

The problem with 3D is that it allows up to see nothing. Some objects are hidden among others, normal zoom makes higher structures cover entire field of view and navigating underground is just unlikely.
Also, the models are so detailed we can't really see these details at all as they get shrinked by battlefield proportions and screwed by resolution.
For me h4 was purely 2D game, however I was really suprised by its appearance by the time I turned to it after years ofH2. I was a kid these times

the HoMM III creatures really look nice and realistic (although the game is not 3D) and the 3D creatures in HoMM IV and HoMM V look somewhat unnatural to me

Proves your ignorance.
H2 has manually drawn sprites, in H3 they generated 3D models and made fitting shots of them and put them together into a animated 2D file. If we could get our hands on some of the old files stuff was made from: We could use the models after a small repolying and converting inside Heroes 5.

Perhaps, but one can add creatures into H3 using Paint. All I said was H3 is not a 3D game.

The models was made for 3D look. and all the maps and terrain is 3D like too.
However it is a different thing that the gameplay and files is in 2D.
