How would you play this?
How would you play this?
True random xl, week 2, you have 2 stronghold towns, a cyclop dwell (not taken), Gundula lvl 5 basic off, wis, log and exp air and Alkin lvl 8 basic off, tactics, archery, air, adv log and exp armor.

Well first I'm gonna use Gundula to take the cyclope dwelling but then use Alkin as main for he got better skills and he is a beastmaster which is my favourite hero race.

You'd think the clop dwell would be easier with tactics. Anyways, I am not quite sure if I would build the clop dwells in my castles, or just save money in case I am short of hiring my dbl built beths, it would depend on the map and how much gold I already have, I guess. Most likely I'll just keep the gold. But I'll definitely take the dwell with Alkin, then use the clops on one of my heroes and ancients on the other.

Well, I'd try to get gundula going as main. Like russ said, take the dwell but if you got mass haste, take it with gundula and behes. Get the cyclops, put them on alkin, with his arch, tactics, and some troops he can help gundula clean the map.
Unless you're overflowing in crystals, and you KNOW that you won't fight very soon with your opponent, don't get cyclops imo. Double building behes to ancients is the best bet.
If however, you can built cyclops and still have crystals left due to high abundance of cyclops stockpiles/dwarf treasuries, do so.
So my opinion, if you got the crystals, go for it. If not, ancient behes >>> cyclops.

Those are the interesting questions why i love this game! There are maybe many strategic solutions for this situation. So here is how i would play it:
First of all i want to state that i dont know the template, the rules, difficulty, the block, opponents town etc...so my solutions may not suit to the real situation.
1. How to open the cyc dwell:
To open an cyc dwell early in the game can be a pain in the ass. So basic tactics wont let Alkin block the cycs with wolves earlier then Gundi would do. So no advantage here. Maybe Birds would help here, but maybe this would cause lousing one of the precious birds wich you normally wont. So with Gundi having slow and better attack i would recommend her. Slowing the Cycs and moving the goblins forward will may lead them to shoot on those lousy gobs. Next round masshaste and the Cycs are dead. If Gundi does have Magic Arrow you may can open it with Frank`s monk dwelling trick. Just give her 7 fodder creatures and spell the cycs down in 6 rounds, having no losses at all.
2. You see your opponent and the block is easy or medium:
Just take your advantage and build up only the Cycs. Take Alkin as hes further developed. With archery hell be a true burner with the cycs, maybe you are lucky and get some archery arts too.
3. You know where your opponent is, the block is hard or even heavy:
Go for double building behemots only. Double Ancients, Thunderbirds and Wolf Raiders will let you roll over your opponent. Take Gundi as her Offense special will be very vital for this fight. Having more time will easy the actual advantage of Alkin into a disadvantage.
4. You know where your opponent is, the block is more then heavy, so you dont expect you opponent to come too soon:
Go for double build behemots AND cyclops! This may sound silly and you think you will never have enough resources for that. But i think you CAN! Its maybe more complicated to play like demonfarming, but having double ancients and cyc kings (+dwell) in the endfight will be pure fun and a real pain in the ass for your opponent.
The reason why you CAN actually do it is cause of the many freeuseless creatures a random map sometimes provide!! Especially on templates that Midnight made, when you almost always get those crappy Necropolis creatures out of pan boxes. Or if you made up rules not to use Wyvern or Angels from buildings. Plus the Low level outside dwellings where you get creatures for free too!
The key is the freelancers guild! (only 1000 bugs) Often forgotten, because normally you wont use it, for you bought creatures! Also it does give a crappy ratio!
Most people dont know that you only have to build this guild one time. The price in the guild is not determined by the amount of this guild, it is determined by the amount of marketplaces you have. Means even if you build marketplaces in non-stronghold towns, the ratio gets better!
So normally on a random you DO have 3 towns = 3 marketplaces. So now u take those lousy 80 Skels/Pikes from the Pan box youve just opened and get 4 crystal for them. Same with Zombies/Cents and and from those outside dwellings (u get them for free). Not native starting armies -> sell them (Shatkis trogs gives 7 crystal alone!). Each Angel gives you 3 crystal, still hard, but better having double ancients and cycs in the endfight then to have 3 angels, Each Wyvern gives you 1 crystal...same here, especially when they are ruled out!
So by getting crystal and ore the normal ways on a random, plus those creature sellings will enable you to get the necessary resources.
Try it and youll have a smile when meeting your opponent.

What I did was:
The cyclopedwell was a bit far away so i never took it since i went for the dbl build. If i should take it I would just bring 3 single behemoths. With slow or haste thats all you need.
Imo the true random template is not rich enough for you to make a full dbl build so I just dbl build 4 dwells. Besides we allowed cons (didnt get any though) and hives and later I took a sulfurdragon dwell to get a highspeed unit, so i had 6 stacks for the endfight.
On true random xl there is alot of ground to cover so I used both heroes for a long time though planning on gundula as main since alkin had the useless archery. Gundula was the first to get earth too, but never armor though.
Using both heroes ment I got 5 towns pretty early and good finances. Im not saying this was the perfect tactic but at least I won the game using it.
