I only agree partly.
H2 campaigns are better than h3 campaigns.

I prefer HOMM3
cos I like to have the most possible decisions to take. I don't want to compare tech aspects like graphics, etc. (It's obvious it will be better on HOMM3 but that is a simple consequence of the release date) What I like on HOMM3 is quantity (more towns, more creatures, more heroes) and the form the worls turns complicated (hero specialties, creatures specialties, combo artifacts...(
Anyway I recognize that HOMM2 is as good and as addictive as HOMM3, and the campaigns are far better in Enroth (why have the bad guys to lose always???).

Heroes 2 was simpler - that's why better...
the only bad things were GHOSTS and HALVING GENIES... Also maybe the fact that campaigns didn't kept the hero skills&levels - that kind of suck a little.
the towns were not balanced in Heroes2 - but that was not a problem. I've got many games with barbarians and necros.
Also Dimesion Door was too powerfull..
Otherwise than that HEROES2 receives gold, while 3 goes with silver... that's it...

Here's my opinion.
I'll say HoMM2 is the best HoMM game I've played. And I played all of them except the expansions and King's Bounty. It's better than HoMM1 because of the spell casting system. And it's better than 3 because:
Primo: Too many changes (for example: Griffin in Castle, Roc in Stronghold).
Secundo: It doesn't work on my comp .

Better?!
My opinion is..... Heroes 3 is a better game but I think I had more fun playing Heroes 2. I am not sure why but I think I was more immersed in Heroes 2.
Anyway.... Number 1 & number 2 games of all time!!!

I have never seen HoMM1 so I have a question:
Are the creatures in HoMM1 and HoMM2 in the same towns or some of them have gone to another? I know that in HoMM1 there were only Barbarian, Sorceress, Khight and Warlock and a friend told me that he thinks the creatures from those 4 towns are the same in HoMM2. If so, what's the big difference between the two games? Only the two new towns?

Not exactly. The creature grafics were defintly funnier. The battlefield was a lot smaller. The spell casting system was different, and IMHO, worse. And there were no upgrades.

yea the black dragons in heroes 1 were purple
and the battle field was very small and a hydra could attack your own creatures 2
and when your creature fel out of the battle field he was dead

i simply had more fun playing h2...
i liked the cartoony creatures sooo much better than the attempt at realism that heroes 3 kinda did. It just immersed me in the fantasy vibe a whole lot better.
also the heroes 2 maps that came w/it were simply better...
and the campaigns are better.
the pricing is better too... you get too much money early on in h3.
and theres too much movement in h3 for a hero.
overall, i think the designers of 3do simply made heroes 3 too easy and made h2 juuuuust right.
because, no one can deny, heroes 3 is muuuuch easier than h2.
and the ghost thing isnt really a factor, since only on a couple maps in the expansion is it actually there... and then you can just ignore it.

H2-
H2 single player was much better, I can't stand to play H3 against the computer. However, I think they are about equal in multi- and since H3 had bette graphics and more creatures, it's hard to say. H2 even with less creatures had more variety of strategy though I think. I still play H2 this many years later, and I can't see myself playing H3 after H4 comes out, so I'd say H2 is best.

I like Heroes III better coz it has better graphics and scenario! The only downside was the system requirements, you'll just have to deal with it!

are you serious? even HoMM4 has ridiculus requirements... it's a 2D game for crying out loud!!! c'mon guys, are you that short on money you can't afford a descent computer?
BTW: from what I've seen, the best HoMM game ever is going to be HoMM4... HoMM1 was just the first step (not counting KB) HoMM2 a refinement of it, HoMM3 a more mature aproach and HoMM4 the final step...
PS: if you guys freak out with HoMM3's requirements I wonder how you will react if HoMM5 is 3D (something I really hope)... jeez...

Yes, I'm serious! Thinking about how fast the technology evolves, I have to say, the only thing you can do about it is to KEEP UP! I know that it's hard and expensive, but if you want to stick with technology. You have to do that otherwise you'll be left out!
BTW, I work in a computer industry, I'm just telling you the truth!
Don't be surprised!

The only "problem" I have with Heroes2 is that Necro is set aside in any map, he WILL be the winner for sheer fact of army size. And since I only play Necro on Heroes2, that's never a real problem. > The computer is hard to play against, but not too hard. I'll still play it from time to time.
However, I will also say that the downside of Heroes3 is that the creatures look too real and the AI ain't worth jack crap. The magic system was well updgaded, and the extra towns weren't completely a bad thing, though we all can agree that you can't win with the Fortress. Ever. *LOL* I like the fact that getting gold is a lot easier in this game. Allows for bigger battles. I'll probably play this game after I get Heroes4. We'll see what happens...

I'm not talking about keeping up with technology, I'm talking about keeping up with HoMM's requirements... and that's not hard at all... I have a PIII 800 with 256 RAM and that is more than enough for HoMM4...

Hmmmm
I don't know. The scenarios where much better in Heroes 2. And even though the graphics aren't as good, they were much more fun. Remember when the vampire would go "blah" when he attacked? Classic. I also liked some of the names. Mutant Zombie!
Unfortunately, Heroes 2 no longer works on my computer. So I only play Heroes 3. People will forget about Heroes 1 and 3 after Heroes 4 comes out. But people will always debate if Heroes 2 was the best!
