I entered a mage vault with a necro. I had expert dark and summoning. I missed some spells like phoenix and frenzy, hoping to get them from there. Instead from those, mage vault "tried to teach me" word of light and implosion. Same happened with other games too (pyramid, utopia).
Can someone confirm this change on ToTE, please?
confirmed. Had a similiar event in the necro campaign with a Dragon Utopia. Note that your hero in fact does learn the spell, but cannot actually use it until you learn the proper skill (It won't show up in your spellbook, either). Case in point, my necromancer had dark magic only, and got Ressurection and Phoenix from the Utopia. Later on, I used the Memory Mentor to exchange War Machines for Summoning Magic, and immediately was able to cast Phoenix.

well, fortunately there are other ways to learn important spells now, but the Arcane Library is pretty expensive as long as you still need the resources for your town.
But yeah, its a weird change. Not that I hurt me in the campaign, my other hero already had pretty much all summoning spells and they both had scholar. But for a single scenario game, its pretty annoying.

So you actually learn these spells but you cant cast them until you have the proper mastery.

Actually, I kind of like this thing. I know it might seem too random, but the spell aspect of Dragon Utopias previously seemed me quite overpowered. Not only did you get an awful lot of money plus a selection of Relics, you ALSO was guaranteed at least two level 5 spells, effectively filling any slots you might have left open in one or two schools. And almost all factions can beat a Dragon Utopia fairly early in game.

I'm not a 100% sure the description is accurate. You were really able to cast summon phoenix with basic summoning that you had learned from the memory mentor?
It's good that the spells are not guaranteed...it's not good that you still 'know' them if you get the correct skill up.

I wrote a topic in the forum and ask how you can defeat Academy when my friend is Nathir (the guy with fire spells damage), and someone told me to look here but I dident find anything so please help me with this
First we always play small maps, the map we always play is that one with 4 players and in the middle you have 4 gold mines and alot of artifacts and so one.
I like every races so I have try to play different race but he have always win, we have play around more then 10 games and he won everytime he was Nathir.
Can explane how he play, he does not use any dark or light skill, he use Destructive Magic and Sorcery that for sure. And after we are around level 10 to 15 we meet. Now I will tell what I am
On the skill, I always try to get the speciell skills that is so I choose skills that you can get this but I think i will stop with this and that is were you can help me
But when we meet he have his tier on his archers and naghas or what there name. I have every units tier
He have always alot of mana and experkt in sorcery so when he cast fireball, I have almost no units left. And then it is not taking long before he can cast again another dangerous firespell and kill my units.
I have try to pick races that have defens against spells but I never get it before me meet.
What is good strat?

I know I'm the one suggesting you to scoop around here, with intention if you can learn how to play Academy, you might get insight on how to beat them
Read p.4 from The_Gootch, it's about Fortress vs Academy. Are you allowed to play Ingvar? Deleb from Inferno?? Or what's ur fav hero/town? Maybe someone can help you from there.
Btw, check also this thread. I'm sure it'll enlighten you.

i hope that its bug with spell learning in dragon utopias
for example dungeon, when u got armageddon and chain lightning in ur magic guild, it was pretty game over for u. thats why i loved the maps with dragon utopias on them, because u had a chance to get the spell that u needed. now its very random, i played about 5 games and never got the spells of that schools, i was specialized in

Well you're still going to go for the utopia's right? All the money and artifacts make it worth it. Now it's just that the spells are a bonus.
Maybe we need a magic over might skill, reducing enemy attack value.

Perhaps, but it still seems to me that it's too easy to rely on magic to rush your opponent in most cases.

Which is why most maps have powerful guardians between players. You usually can't rush them before week 4 which is enough time for the might heroes to gather an army. Besides after that time they begin to gain an edge so it's a delicate balance.

is logistics skill a less opportunistic skill overall?
i mostly play academy and i rarely ever get chance for logistics ( unless im already sweeping the map and its game over )
its really annoying especially since i like to play large-xlarge mostly, and without all u can do is chase enemies and smell there stank trail 2 spaces in front of u every day lol...
I 90% of the time use Nur, so she either just rarely gets it or i just dont get it ( my bets on i just dont get it )
its same thing in H2 when i play that....except its archery ( with wizard of course - 5th/6th tiers [mages/titans] is shooters) so its really stupid considering they have most use for it....
anyone know somethin about logistics or am i stuck crawling every map lol?

Wizards have a base 2% chance to get log.
Anyway, this is where you will find all the info you need:

If you play large maps then it would be good to end up with a lvled up wizard and leveled up might hero(no log problem here) anyway. The wizard should artificer, a might hero(ranger or knight) then can use artificered army and fight a real late game battle vs enemy hero.
Is it worth it? Well, for me it's just better to end up with on 2 lvl 20 heroes than with 1 lvl 24 hero..(more info: page 298/338 in 3.0 manual)

I should also note that utopias before had a chance to give you only 1 lvl 5 spell or only 1 lvl 4.
..I guess I'll wait and see if the new spell lineups are more effective but I seriously doubt that. Most factions will want one ONE out of the 4 schools which really sucks with you getting an unwanted spell most of the time.
