An Intro to the online game Runescape

What is Runescape

RuneScape is a MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) implemented using Java, with over two million active players and over 100 servers to play in[1]. RuneScape was launched by Jagex Limited on January 4, 2001 and offers both pay to play ("P2P") and free to play ("F2P") membership options to players. RuneScape is designed to be accessable from any location with an internet connection.
The Free to play has less places to go, not as many weapons, and all that.
Pay to play has many more features, like new eapons, new places to go and more quests.

Weapons

There are many types of weapons in RuneScape, including long swords, scimitars, short swords, daggers, staves, battle-axes, maces, and bows. For the players who simply wish to be different, pickaxes and hatchets are available to be wielded, too, but are weak in comparison to the other weaponry available. There are also members-only weapons, such as halberds, darts, javelins, claws, throwing knives, and dragon weapons. Members can also use joke weapons such as a bunch of flowers which is only for show because it doesn't do very much damage. Strong players generally use more powerful weapons—such as the rune scimitar for free players or the abyssal whip for paying members—than weaker players. Weapons are generally ranked by attack bonus and speed, but may also be considered for their special ability, or ability to be covered with poison. There are many classes of each type of weapon, based upon the material from which it is crafted. Ranged weapons typically require ammunition, such as arrows for bows, bolts for crossbows, and runes for magic attacks with staffs.

Skills

Skills are abilities that enable players to perform activities in the game. Some skills are available only to members, such as fletching, and some can only be utilised by completing a specific quest. Many of the high-level abilities in most skills are reserved for members only. Players gain experience in a skill when they perform activities that utilise that skill, for instance mining a rock would raise the mining skill. In general, the higher level it requires to perform a task, the more experience points the performer receives. The combined skill level of a player partly symbolises the player's status in the game. In RuneScape, there are currently 21 skills including:

* Primary/extraction (mining, fishing, farming, woodcutting)
* Secondary/processing skills (smithing, fletching, crafting, herblore, cooking, runecrafting)
* Combat skills (attack, strength, defence, prayer, magic, ranging, hitpoints)
* Tertiary skills (agility, firemaking, slayer, thieving)

RS would takes too much time to aswell.

RUNESCAPE BANK
The bank is where you can put all of your items into your own personal bank account thingy.
You can store your most valuable weapons/armour/or gold in here.
You can have a choice if you would like a pin code so that no hackers get into your account and steal your items .
The Bank is also a place to meet alot of other online members at the time.
Here is a picture of some of the items/weapons/armour/gold etc in:

That is the bank and some of the tiems that you can store into your bank account.

THE WORLDS
There are many worlds in runescape.
Some are only members only and there you can find manymore things.
There are also alot of non subscribing member worlds if you do not wish to pay to actually play the game.
If you pay you get many more features, and you can use more skills that you cant use while being a non-paying member.
The worlds are all the same, but some are on different serveers, some may be in england, others may be in Sydney, Australia.
They are all around the world.
Some are faster, but imo the better worlds, are those with less members currently active playing in that world at the time.
The reason: Less annoyances, less people bothering you, less people asking you for money, and of course less people trying to kill you and steal your stuff which gets really annoying after a while.

UPGRADING IN SKILLS
Upgrading in skills is pretty easy, for example:
You are attacking a man, and you hold a sword.
There are about 3 or 4 things you can do or choose from:
Here is a picture of when you use a staff:

If you choose to jab, then you will gain experience in the attack skill.
If you choose Pound (Aggresive crush) then you will gain experience in Strength skill.
If you choose to focus- block, then you will gain experience in Defense skill.
These will all shape your character and either make you better or the best.
The maximum level that you character can get up to is I think: 126.75 or something like that.
It is something very close to that.
And when you are at that level then all of your skills should be at level 99.
When you are at level 99 for every skill, then you are one of the most powerful if not THE most powerful character in all of runescape.

SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SKILLS
Here are some of the most important skills that you will need:

WOODCUTTING
A lot of people in RuneScape think "woodcutting? BORING!", but this is not the case. It is a very useful skill, as some Scapers have found out. I for one have made over 4 million on it. To cut a tree, all you need is an Axe (a hatchet) (Bronze, Mithril, Rune, etc.) and then click on a tree that is labelled "Tree", not Oak or Yew etc. Also, Woodcutting is available on the free servers, but they can only cut Regular Trees, Oak Trees, Willow Trees, and Yew Trees.

The following table shows what level attack you need to wield the hatchets, and what level woodcutting you need to use each hatchet. If you cannot wield the hatchet, you can still use it at any attack level, but you must have it in your inventory instead of actually wielding it. WARNING woodcutting has random events also, such as a Tree Ent which can break your hatchet if you do not stop chopping right away. If this happens take the damaged hatchet to Lumbridge and talk to Bob, who will gladly repair it for a few coins. Or you may be attacked by a lovely Tree Spirit (level varies depending upon your level; see Random Events Special Report.)

COMBAT

Combat is thought by some as the most important part of the game RuneScape. It comes in many other different skills which can be found throught the guide. It is simply used to kill monsters, and other players. Other players can be only killed in the wilderness or in a dueling arena. It also shows how experienced a player you are for the higher your level, the more respect you get. This guide covers the three aspects of melee fighting - attack, strength and defence, as well as hitpoints.

There are also three other skills which contribute to combat - prayer, ranged and magic. For information on these skills please refer to the respective guides

Combat Level

As you may or may not have noticed, every monster and player that has the ability to engage in combat has a combat level. This level summarises your skill in combat. Your combat level is made up of these skills:

Attack
Strength
Defence
Hitpoints
Ranged
Magic
Prayer

It is thought that your combat level can be ranged, magic or melee based. The maximum combat level in RuneScape is 126. Defence, Prayer and Hitpoints contribute to your combat level no matter what it is based on. Attack and Strength only affect melee based combat levels, Range only affects range based combat levels and magic only affects magic based levels.

You may notice that the combat levels of other monsters and players will appear in a color - either red, green, yellow, or orange. Enemies 7 levels or more below you will appear green. Likewise, if they are 7 levels or more above your combat level, their level will appear red to you. If a player or monster is the exact same combat level as you, their level will appear yellow to you. If it is between 7 below and 7 above your level, their level will appear in orange.

Hitpoints

When fighting another player or monster, you will notice that you are hitting your opponent. Red or blue "splats" will appear on you and your opponent when they are hit. The number inside the "splat" indicates how many hitpoints have been taken from you. Once you reach 0 hitpoints, you will die, and reappear in Lumbridge (or Falador if you have completed Recruitment Drive and changed your respawn point). When you die, you will keep only your three best items (or four, if you have used the prayer "Protect Item").

Attack

Attack level dictates how often you hit an enemy. In short, the higher your attack level, the less 0's you hit.

Attack level also dictates what weapons a player can wield. The higher your attack level, the stronger weapons you have the ability to wield.

To advance your Attack level, you must fight with the style Accurate. When fighting in Accurate mode, you will be given 4 experience for every hit you deal to the enemy.

Weapons are what you will use in the game to attack your enemies. Certain Attack levels are required to wield the different kinds of weapons.
Type of Armour______Attack Level to Use
Bronze____________________1
Iron______________________1
Steel_____________________5
Black_____________________10
Mithril___________________20
Adamant___________________30
Rune______________________40
Dragon____________________60

Strength

Strength is the skill that allows you to hit harder on enemies. The higher your strength level, the higher you will hit on enemies.

To level Strength, you must fight in Aggressive mode. You will be given 4 experience to Strength for every hit you deal to the enemy.

Defense

If you don't want to be dealt high hits, Defence is a necessity. It reduces your chance of being hit by an opponent. Note: Your magical defence is balanced in a 70% magic skill and 30% defence split.

Defence is also required to wear the different types of armour. The higher your defence level, the stronger armour you have the ability to wear.

To advance your Defence level, you must fight in Defensive mode. When fighting with this style, you will be given 4 experience to Defence for every hit you deal to the enemy.

Armour is a vital part of combat. It gives a defensive bonus, and means that you will be hit less often by your enemies. The armour you can wear depends on your defence level. The different kinds of armour and the level required are as follows:
Type of Armour_____Defence Level to Use
Bronze_____________________1
Iron_______________________1
Steel______________________5
Black______________________10
Mithril_____________________20
Adamant____________________30
Rune______________________40
Dragon_____________________60
Elf Crystal________________70

Combat Styles

When fighting, you can choose from different types of fighting styles. There are four different styles of fighting.

Accurate: When fighting with this style, you will be more likely to hit your opponent.. This is the fighting style you should use if you are training Attack.

Aggressive: When fighting in Agressive mode, you will hit much higher than with any other combat style. You should use this fighting style when training Strength.

Defensive: When fighting in the Defensive style, will be less likely to hit you. This is the fighting style you should use when training Defence.

Controlled: Some weapons give the option to fight in a special "Controlled" mode. When fighting Controlled, you will get a little of each. This mode of fighting gives 1.33 experience per hit to all three melee skills - Attack, Strength and Defence, as well as hitpoints.

As well as these four methods of fighting, you will see something else in the fighting styles - either Stab, Crush or Slash. Different weapons are better with certain styles, and different monsters and defences have a weakness to these different styles, eg. Plate Armour is weak against Crush attacks.

Ok forgot to make a reply to that.
Well here I go.

That I suppose is a major flaw in Runescapes game engine.
You can spend real life hours just killing rats or man as they are called.
Rats are usually level 2 creatures or sometimes level 1 and man are level 2 creatures or things that you can kill.
They often drop some rather good itmes, well man drop the good items, whereas rats dont usually drop many good itens.
I have gotten Air Talismans, Fir Talismans, Earth Talismans, and more from killing man all the time.
There is also a woman who is the exact same as a man in being the same level and dropping mainly the same stuff.
One thing they do drop all the time is 2 things:
-Gold but mainly not much
-And bones.

Bury bones whenever you get them because this increases your paryer level experience by a small amount, and more experience means higher level and high level means you become harder to defeat.
The Bones nearly always give out the same amount of experience when they are buried.
The gold that either man or woman drop are small but if you keep killing hundreds of man or woman in real life hours then you will earn a fortune, unless you die by them that is

Killing rats isnt as fun though.
ho would waste real life hours killing rats for all there time, I know I wouldnt do that.
That is time consuming and boring.
There are better things to do like killing other online players, or pickpocketing people or guards *members only thing though, or just selling your items at various shops or talking and trading to other online members on at the time.
Its really a great game, and this flaw you mentioned Legendmaker, may put some people off, and it really makes runescape boring and not as fun to play.
